Watched some bouts last night, Kov's lack of inside fighting ability (like, every fight ever) & tendency to get caught with rights over the top (Ward I & II, Alvarez I) once an opponent times his jab is gonna get him stopped IMO. Watching a shedload of Kovalev fights back to back you realise just how narrow his punch selection is—I watched like six fights & you could count on one hand the amount of uppercuts or proper left hooks he threw.
Kov's really good but only at one range. Jacobs IMO is faster/slicker (& not much smaller in reality) & couldn't keep Canelo on the end of stuff with enough regularity. He's gonna get outjabbed early but once Clenelo starts to time him & the legs start to lose their zip then I think Alvarez might break him inside, Golovkin took same insane bodyshots in the rematch & I can't see Sergey standing up to that late on.
Like Ezzard said upthread, you look at Kov's recent fights & you'd swear he'd get tired one-two'ing a heavy bag for twelve rounds.
I think the weight might help Clenelo's stamina, as well, I have this sneaking suspicion that draining like a motherfucker (which let's face it he's done his entire career) meant he was only able to fight a stretch of a round at a time. I actually think this might be a more "natural" weight for him.
Really hope I'm wrong, like but I think this is going one way.

I watched the weigh-in live on a Youtube stream. Kovalev was over the light-heavy limit and given one hour to lose the excess weight. Dodgy dealings with the scales to give Alvaroids another advantage?
It's all typical stuff from Canelo. Kovalev was confident enough in his weight to go weigh in with a chain on. He should know this is normal A side snide tricks. The Klitschkos used to play games like this all the time. It's boxing. The game's always rigged in some way.

I agree with all this,Canelo,I think will be a beast tonight and take anything Kov has to offer and come back with better.

He never really looked capable of stopping Ggg or Jacobs, so I can't see him giving Kov too much trouble unless he's shot to bits. Yarde is a much much bigger man than Canelo, i suspect Yarde hits much harder too.
If Kov isn't bothered by his shots i think he'll press on for a KO, he hits harder than G and a great finisher.

For once we are in agreement my Caledonian chum.
I think Canelo is in for a rude awakening.

I hope so - but I can't say I'm hugely confident, without doubt there is a vulnerability about Kovalev that's been very clear in Ward 2, Alvarez 1 (and even 2 to an extent), life and death with Yarde. Originally i picked Canelo, but Kovalev is no fuckn Rocky Fielding and I've swayed round to picking Kov having just enough left to deal with gingerpubes

It took 5 minutes for Kovalev to visit a bathroom and weigh in at 175.

margaret thatcher wrote: ↑01 Nov 2019, 17:19Do you think because of Canelo's 'reputation' for generous judging, that the judges may actually be harsh on him to make up for it, and that Canelo is actually at an unfair disadvantage now?
No, because he's worth too much. Would you be bought for $1m, when that amounts to a lifetime's wage for a lot of people but hardly dents the takings? The smart thing is to only bribe two judges, since that increases the chance of variance and saves money. Supposing Kov's been paid, even, because he's heading for retirement and it's not a legacy fight for him.
Canelo's fans can then claim an ostensibly great victory, at the same time as Kov's fans can say it would've been very different a couple of years ago. No lost pride. All Kov has to do is carry him a little and let it slide on the cards. Judges could even be legit in that case, though that carries a slight risk.
I just don't buy into this as a genuine fight and can't be arsed watching it. It's fitting that Canelo's only loss came from the conditions that he now exploits. Money talks, and I don't just mean Floyd.

when i heard it was made i thought could be saul first lost here , feel this will be saul toughest fight ,i know floyd but he wasnt expected to win that, kov is genuine top level fighter , if this was 2 years ago i would go kk, i think saul jumping up so many weights is gonna catch up on him , just think what does kk have left in the tank the yarde fight werent long ago, well canelo will start fast front foot get in close hurt the body, but if kk can you use his range and get off a big shot and hurt saul , i think this is a tough fight to call, like and rate both fighters ,i think kov has lost speed , he has always been hit ,and showed he took yardes power , but saul is smart boxer he will find a weakness and target it, but kov will have to stop saul to win this fight, not sure he has it in him no more, close saul win ,

Judges don't get bribed for a million dollars, ha'way man, give your head a shake.
