I did hear a story about a ring invasion by Finnegan's fans in which one of the said fans used Carpenter's pate as a stepping stone en route into the ring. Apparently Carpenter never forgave Finnegan for this fan's uncouth behaviour.

Interesting. When Tony Sibson stopped Frankie Lucas for the British middleweight title in a big upset, some of his fans stormed the ring and one spat on Harry Mullan's back, which was nice of him. Kevin Finnegan later beat Sibbo for the title and Harry must have enjoyed that one. Finnegan and Mark Kaylor were two of his favourites.
I just watched the Finnegan-Sibson match up, or the highlights that are currently available on Youtube, for the first time. Not really surprising that Finnegan after being in with Hagler twice and Minter 3 times knew a little too much for the 21 yo Sibson. The ironic thing was Carpenter was doing the commentary and apparently he (Carpenter) hated Sibson as well. I've no idea what Sibson was supposed to have done to HC. I think he was just one of those guys who held grudges for fun. Sorry about what happened To Harry Mullan - there was a media figure (sadly lost) with no airs or graces who genuinely had time for ordinary fans, so it shouldn't have happened to him by rights.
