Dillian on the other hand looks bigger and stronger than ever after spending some time on the Med.
Povetkin was already a shadow of himself, even Adam Smith described him as 'once great' 'legs have slowed down' and 'punch resistance has gone' only seconds before he sent Dillian down for 6 seconds or whatever Whyte claims it was.

Before the covid case I was sure in the repeat. But now it'll probably be the revenge. Maybe Povetkin just gotta retire. Injuries and diseases bring more aftermath in his age.

I'd retire if I were Povetkin unless I had an out and out dgaf mercenary attitude. He'll know his own body and how hard the first fight was. From word coming from the East he is goosed from Covid-19. If he takes the fight it's purely for the cash and it'll all over within a round or two. He'll truthfully blame the disease.

Povetkin's Promoter Would Like His Boxer To Retire After Two More Fights

"I think that he needs to retire, I will try to persuade him," Ryabinsky said to Match TV.

"[Alexander] had to return to the hospital for an additional examination. The other day he was discharged and is only now starting to train. We will increase the training load in stages, under the supervision of doctors. Boxing is a serious load on the body, I will not allow Alexander's health to be risked," Ryabinsky said.

"The date [of January 30] is no longer relevant, but it will not move by much, probably to the beginning of March. I think the fight will take place in London. Negotiations are at the stage of determining the dates, everything else is already there, everything else has been agreed upon."

Ryabinskiy is a guy who cares about his fighters and his statement is genuine.

He must have lost a lot of money when he chose to cancel Lebedev v Jones 2 , when there was pressure to proceed with the fight as a non title bout.

He is a smart guy and knows that CV19 recovery is unpredictable and they shouldn’t rush into a rematch ( if he even fights again )

Povetkin must be ok financially , he has made some good purses & hopefully has gotten rid of the multiple rats that we’re eating his purses early in his career. ( I think he had two management teams to pay for a one point )

He also seems a sensible guy who won’t have blown it all on fast cars etc

Unless his medical tests come back A+ , he should just retire .

I agree. The after effects of covid are no joke and potentially very long lasting, speaking from experience, and if he's not 100% then he should feel no shame whatsoever in calling time on a very good career.

Povetkin: Whyte Likes To Talk A lot, Postponement Was Better For Him

WBC interim-heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin is starting to get his body back in order, after spending weeks fighting off the coronavirus.

Povetkin's career is back in the spotlight, after the Olympic gold medal winner scored a brutal one-punch knockout of Dillian Whyte in the fifth round of their match in August of 2020.

There was a rematch clause exercised by Whyte - with the second fight being scheduled for November.

But, the rematch was postponed after Povetkin was diagnosed with COVID-19.

There is no timeline on when the rematch will happen - but month of March has been the goal by Povetkin.

In one of his many post-fight interviews, Whyte made a claim that Povetkin was on the verge of being pulled out by his team before the knockout happened.

Povetkin had been down twice in the fourth round and was well behind on the scorecards when the fifth round began - but a single uppercut right up the middle sent Whyte crashing down and out.

"At the beginning of that fight, not everything went right for me, but I have already analyzed my mistakes. Now I will try to fix them," Povetkin told Vasily Konov.

"[Whyte] likes to talk, so let him talk. What can I tell him ... it's his business. I'm fine with everything. They can at least beat me for the eyes [reading his quotes], that's okay."

In more than one interview, Whyte also questioned Povetkin's diagnosis. He felt the Russian boxer and his handlers were using COVID as a tactic to secure additional time to prepare for the rematch.

"This is his guess. It's better for him [that our fight was pushed back]... After such a serious knockout, he has more time to rest. I have all the documents, how can this be fiction? Yes, he talks a lot, but we signed a rematch contract. And I want to meet with him again," Povetkin said.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Povetkin only fought once in 2020.

He hopes to have at least two fights in the new year.

"I would like to be more active. Right now, two fights a year for me is the optimal number. After all, preparation takes three months, and after the fight you need a rest. Plus I'm not 20 years old where I can instantly recover," Povetkin said.

“This is obviously one that people know was gonna happen, but we will be announcing the official date of Whyte-Povetkin II, which is March the 6th,” Hearn informed co-hosts Barak Bess and Akin Reyes during a show that streams Monday through Friday on DAZN and SiriusXM. “Of course, the first one was the final fight of fight camp, August 22nd. I mean, I can still see it in my mind. And that’s a big fight for the heavyweight division. Of course, while we’re trying to finalize AJ against Fury, Whyte-Povetkin’s right up there.

“You know, it’s for the mandatory position in the WBC. It’s a great heavyweight fight. So, that will be lodged into the opening part of our 2021 schedule. So, big, big fight for Dillian Whyte. It’s a must-win fight. And if he wins that fight, I know he wants a shot at the WBC title.”

Except he's under contract and would be sued and probably then have to make a comeback to fill the hole in his pocket

As I said last month, Sasha should retire, he has been very sick. He's lost a lot of weight too. He will make good money from the fight and Whyte will claim redemption. Truth is the one or two rounds the fight lasts will be testament to Covid-19 more than anything else.

Due to Covid and health and or if he was physically unable to, he would retire.. surely the courts see that and the commissions would intervene. Might pay a price though.

Anyway. He’s back in training camp now.

The fight does nothing for Whyte. If he wins, he's beaten a 41yo fresh from a life threatening illness. If he loses, he's really toast. If the fight he anything close to competitive, Whyte looks like a loser.

Why would Povetkin need the money? Him and Wlad made a ton for that fight. He must be very wealthy and still want to compete.

Povetkin fights just because he still likes to box and feels that he can do it. If he loses to Whyte, he should retire though.

No because a fighter would retire and comeback every time they wanted out of a contract

Nonsense. If a fighter retires due to ill health, accumulation of injuries, or age, nobody in their right mind would take him to court. If he comes back at a later date, it would be circumstance dependent. If it's 10 years down the line there's little chance of court action, if it's six months, then obviously there is.

He didn't say anything about ill health. He just said retirement. You're making things up. Age isn't a reason to retire if you're now 41 and you were 40 when you signed it in court. And you clearly know nothing about boxing. Don King and a certain British promoter would sue for literally anything... there's a lot of money involved in these fights

They wouldn't sue if the guy retired. Find me a single case where somebody has. If you manage that (I am confident you won't), find me a case where the party that sued won. It would be ridiculous.
