At this point, all criticism of Tank based on risk aversion is hereby vaporized. This is a huge step up and a ridiculous challenge. If he gets by this, everyone is on notice, including Taylor.
All criticism of Tank is justified. He's Broner all over again, or at least only slightly better. He'll only win titles at 140 and 147 if they're careful as all hell who they match him with. He may not get by Barrios, and he won't dare fight Taylor.
The hype around him vs who he fights is absurd.
Very good analogy.
GOAT level IF he can safely make 130
HOF level @ 135.
WT Winner @ 140
Competent WT challenger @ 147.
He's not any of those 4 things you mentioned. Damn sure hasn't proven to be HOF worthy as a Lightweight, and he hasn't won a World Title at 140. His fight against Barrios was just a fight. A "Regular" WBA Title just to collect a sanctioning fee when there's already an undisputed Champion is a lie that's not worth acknowledging.
It was a good win, and Barrios is a good fighter. That's it.

I had it 84-84 going into 10. Barrios fought well. The big boys of 140 will be avoided by Tank.

It looked like Davis was allowing Barrios to take some early rounds.

The way he took out WT level SFWs with one punch from either hand was up there with the greats..., IF he coulda stayed there.
Not far off that at LW. IF he could easily make LW and fight there.. ? He'd probably end up in the HOF.
@ 140 he just proved by beating Barrios - he 's a good fighter with good power that would probably pick up an alphabet WT. (Disgracefully from the WBA he kinda did that last night ! ). Also that he's unlikely to ever be top dog.
I think he also proved that he wouldn't disgrace himself in inevitable defeats to Spence, Bud, Boots..

Saw the highlights of the TKO. Davis packs a real wollup in his punches. Barrios is a good fighter and Davis was able to catch him clean and finish him.
Would really like to see how Davis would fare against the likes of Josh Taylor or Teofimo. This fight against Barrios changed my take on Tank a little. I’m going pretty sure he would catch Ryan Garcia on the chin right now.

He didn't fight anybody that was a threat at any of these weight classes. Teofimo Lopez and Lomachenko would beat him at Lightweight I think. Haney might too. At Super Featherweight he never took on Berchelt, Valdez or anybody else. At 140 maybe he'll actually prove he's worthy of the hype.
I wouldn't even match him with Spence, Bud and guys like that until he actually beats a top guy at these lower weight classes he's competing at. So far he's not even fought one.
And he's 27 years old

The highlights would not have shown his inactivity in the first 4 rounds, and if you watched the Taylor unification fight, you would have made the comparison that there is no comparison between Barrios and guys like Prograis and Taylor who would have blasted Barrios out of there inside 8. It was a win at SLW, but not near championship level.
Tank showed he could be a 2nd tier SLW, which is an achievement. It just isn't as much of an achievement as his press releases make it out to be.

aside from pedrosa years ago i dont think he has beat a world title levle SFW let alone proven his 1 punch power against them. i know leo did have a title, but he is by no means a real SFW. he can easily make lightweight, but struggled to put away a crippled gamboa..
Last night he struggled with and got hit plenty by a mabeyyy contenderish levle 140. and your using that as proof for him not getting imbarrased vs elite 147s...
This all sounds pretty anti tank, but i like him in the mix, great potential, but he has done absolutly nothing in the last 5 years to prove he is near "goat 130, HOF 135, WT 140 or able to not descgrace himself vs elite 147s.

im not sure they lack confidence in him.........what i think it is, is that they are deadset on him being another floyd type megastar, and they want the big fights vs teo, garcia etc to happen when he's a biiger draw and there is more money in it
another problem like i said, is that pbc has none of the other top lightweights, it doesnt have the undsiputed at 140, etc......and they obiously like matching tank in house. if he can make 130 again i bet he fights gary russell.
That's the problem. Floyd routinely was in big fights BEFORE he was a megastar.

I dunno - you said he was like Broner and I agreed ?!
A KO phenom at 130, but diminished a bit by every division he moves up to 147.
Like Floyd himself !

Broner wasn't an ATG or a Hall of Fame level talent at any weight class he ever competed at.

That was a big win for Gervonta Davis!
He showed grit, power, patience, and persistence. And emerged victorious in a fight where things weren’t always going his way.
And I suspect the fact that Gervonta Davis had to work for his victory over unheralded name will be used as ammunition by his critics to justify accusations of Tank being a hype job.
They’ll inevitably ignore the fact that he defeated a very decent opponent that was much physically larger than himself.
Meanwhile, other fighters (that choose to engage in a continuous stream of mismatches against journeymen or shot to pieces names), will inevitably be celebrated and automatically bestowed an honorary rite of passage to "greatness" without anyone requiring the need for verification.
That said, I appreciate that Tank’s been carefully matched, with him facing progressively more challenging (though clearly not elite level) opposition, which is good (and logical considering his age), but this trend has to continue, and I’d like him to make 130lbs his natural habitat, because he is quite small.
I think he’s ready to face the very best at junior lightweight, but I don’t think he’s big enough to compete against the elite level 135lb-ers.

Agreed, but Broner's resume for the first 5½ years of his career (before his 24th birthday) was truly impressive, his critics only seem to recall what's transpired since 2015, when his in-ring talents were declining.
Adrien Broner was once classed amongst the top-six of The RING's pound-for-pound ratings, he's engaged in ten world championship bouts, faced ten world champions and also captured world titles in four weight divisions.
Even if you severely dislike the guy, and I’m not his biggest fan either, it’s impossible to deny that he was once considered one of the best fighters on the planet.
Like him or loath him, there’s not a lot of fighters competing today with Broner’s resume.

tank beats everyone at 135, at most teo might beat him, not too small at all
teo at 23 beat loma, tank's going on 27 and with his talent should fight an elite name next

EO already saying Davis too small for 135 so he can make his excuses if he ever loses there
just like all those years- and it was, years- he was saying Canelo was a small middleweight, and a smaller man than GGG

Prograis To Tank: Don’t You Ever F------ Say My Name Again; I Guarantee I'll Smash You!
“I saw the Tank fight,” Prograis said in his hometown. “Good fight, Tank. Solid opponent. But he ain’t me. So, don’t you ever f------ say my name ever again because I guarantee I’ll smash you. And I guarantee Floyd [Mayweather] and Leonard Ellerbe and none of them n-ggas ain’t gonna let you close to me. So, don’t f------ talk. Don’t say my name ever again because I will f-----’ knock you out little boy.”
