They're all good to very good boxers at their levels, the one thing they all have in common is getting bested by Josh Taylor....like that suddenly re-writes the facts.
Complete rubbish

I don't think Omerta likes Josh. He might be that orange bouncer he threatened to slap.

None of those wins give Taylor a claim of being elite . It's an average division
He needs to compete at proper elite level for anyone to be making claims of him being Scotland's best ever
To do this he either has to go up and fight Crawford or hope Lopez moves up, or another elite fighter moves up in weight. There is none at the current weight limit

Couldn't disagree more. It's harder than ever to clean up a division and call yourself an undisputed world champion.
Hagler never moved up or down in weights and is one of the most revered champions in boxing period. He wouldn't tolerate anyone else claiming to be the world champion on his watch.
Taylor is doing the same thing. The 10st division is never low on quality and is still rich in good fighters. Prograis and Ramirez are top-drawer.

now does he have a claim to greatest of all time?
The poll says “Scotland’s greatest of all tim” which is quite humorous. I take it that was unintentional.?

It's only harder to clean up a division because there's so many tin pot belts and boxing politics between shady promoters

Yes but prograis has turned out to be completely overrated and Ramirez is just an bang average wbo type world level fighter, he hasn't got any wins against elite opposition like Buchanan and lynch have. Also it's not a great division he has cleared out and every top guy in it that he has beaten have been very close fights that could of went either way.
personal bias
Could turn that around and say the exact same for anyone that thinks Taylor's current resume is better than Buchanan
not really. hard to knock someone who has unified/cleaned out a division. thats hardly a bias. his results speak for themselves.

there were some on this forum who agreed that even with wins over prograis, baranchyk, and postol, that taylor still ranked under scott harrison
I think you are referring to me but I haven't posted here for the best part of 2 years.
Great achievement by Josh, absolutely delighted for him and yes, he clearly ranks above Harrison and others now that he's undisputed.
I'd rank him third now, behind Buchanan and Lynch. If he moves up and beats Crawford then he may well stand alone.

Still doesn't put him above Buchanan and lynch until he gets some elite wins

Don't like to compare fighters from different era's , tou can only beat whats put in front of you and Taylor has done the job , he's an exceptional talent , he's undisputed of the world , even in the days of one belt , you could only lay claim to being undisputed if you won that belt , Taylors got 4 ,, Ok they may have been weakened by having 4 ,, but he's got all of them so he's undisputed , simple has that , Hoe long he has it remains to be seen when the good lads start to move up , or he moves up .
But one thing for sure , in the bars of Scotland , theres gonna be many a discusion about who's the best ,, especielly between the old guys and the younger ones

he's done what so many british 'greats' haven't, yet doesn't seem to be getting the accolades. His unification efforts at such an early stage are far more impressive than say, hattons cherry picking of the weaker champs like maussa and urango or collazo, that welter he thought would be an easy one but battered him.

Yeah but Hatton would have to of beaten a 140lb Mayweather and 140lb Cotto. Hardly Ramirez.

i dunno, even junior witter for the WBC would have been a more impressive feat than maussa or urango. but he swerved him. something josh can never be accused of.
british boxing fans moan and moan about the best not fighting the best, and when one of their own steps up to the plate he's not given the credit he's due. Hes fought the best opponents he can and in a short time too. hes an example to every other young fighter imo. (i'm not interested in out of the ring behaviour)

Sad thing is I think Hatton would have dealt quite comfortably with Witter who was massively overrated on here, would have been a relatively safe payday for Hatton I think.

The Urango fight grated with me - at least Maussa was a legitmate title holder, won the title in the ring. Urgano won a vacant title that RIcky himself vacated instead of fighting his mandatory - felt like a huge backward step, although at least he managed to get some world class wins after the Hatton fight and won the title again - so actually Witter vs Urango would have been a really intriguing contest as crude as Urango appeared

Had a long list of excuses. Too boring, not well known in America, doesn't have a belt, doesn't wanna give him a payday, doesn't like him, list goes on.
He was right with most. Why should he make someone a millionaire who'd spent years bad mouthing him.

I think Witter when he was at his peak - on that great run of stoppages - beat Hatton handily if the judging was fair.
I can see the arguments of Hatton pickers too, but the fact Hatton didn't want it says a lot for me. If the number 1 and 2 in the world are both beltholders from the same country then it's always a big fight. It woulda been huge.
Shame it'll always be the one that got away.
I voted Taylor IS greatest - having read the thread I've been persuaded I'm wrong - still needs to do a bit more.
IF he beats Teo then El Tel...,that'll do it.

To be respected in the sport he was obsessed with? He never beat a young prime powerful skilled opponent.
Ricky Hatton walked the face of the planet by a country mile though, with a pie and a pint.

‘Won everything as an amateur’ - no you didn’t. You won an ABA title.
Cubans peak at 25-30 as ams, you boxed one of their young juniors. And Jurger Brahmer punched him into next week, knocked him out.

Won world bronze. Robbed blind. Won aba's in first senior season. Only greats like Calzaghe do that.

No he didn’t. He won a junior world bronze - not a major tournament. Russians and Cubans don’t peak at 16 - they dominate at 28.
