Pretty sure Leonard was retired at Spence’s age and he’d done it all.

In Leonard's time, Crawford would have just been another bum on the ladder for Ray.

There has been a seismic shift in the way that way fighters now view the sport.

It's one thing when some fans complain that Ali never fought the likes of Foreman and Shavers twice and quite another to see what's happening today with the likes of those current beltsitting bullshitters, Canelo Crawford and Fury.

At the end of the day, at its very summit, boxing is now little more than a corrupt business, a vehicle for the transference of money, from our pockets to theirs.

There's no point in pretending otherwise.

Thankfully, there's still plenty worth watching elsewhere.

Who's Terence Crawford anyway?

This fight has already passed its sell by date, and so probably has Crawford.

The likes of Pacquiao and GGG continued long past their best days but they were outsiders who were willing to fight anyone on their way up.

Crawford, Canelo and Fury come from boxing strongholds and have no such excuses for their cherry picking antics.

This fight is simply not happening this year, if it ever does.

This fight isn't happening in 2022 if at all.

It's October now and these two and their hangers-on still haven't agreed anything, far too late to wrap up a fight of this magnitude this year.

That's quite eye opening, although, we're in a different age now.

Modern fighters don't tend to age like yesterday's fighters.

Leonard and Hearns were past their primes at 30.

Their compatriot, Marvellous Marvin Hagler retired for good at 33.

Crawford and Spence are in their mid and early 30s respectively, but they're still in their primes.

You might want to nitpick and say that Crawford might just have slipped marginally, but it's not significant and he is arguably still the top guy at 147, at worst, the number 2 guy.

Saying all that, it's getting boring waiting for these two to agree a superfight.

Nutrition, science, training methods, and fighting less often prolong careers. Crawford especially has never been in a brutal fight that I know of. Spence may have more wear and tear.

Does anyone care that much if these two never fight each other? The pairing is Tim Bradley vs Devon Alexander with better PR. I get as excited for a Terence Crawford fight as I did for a Chad Dawson fight -- which is not at all.

I might be way off here, but when I see Crawford and Spence they look to me like guys De La Hoya would've belted out 20 years ago. They're good enough to have been alphabet titlists in the 90s, but no way would they have been stars or long-running champs.

Last year, Shawn Porter wanted to fight Crawford and the fight got made.

OK, it didn't work out well for Porter in the end, but at least he showed it's possible if guys at the top table really want fights, they can be made.

If Spence and Crawford really wanted to fight each other, this fight would have been signed months ago.

Boxing biggest fight in the last 20 years was an absolute washout.

Floyd Mayweather was a calculating parasite who took and has kept on taking from the sport.

Canelo, his successor, does fight regular but not always the opponents we want to see him fight. It does look as if his long time fans are finally beginning to lose patience with him.

No surprise.


Tyson Fury, another one who just takes and takes. A Fury v Joshua fight would light up the sport, but does Fury care about anything other than eking out the very last £ out of the deal?

As you say, Crawford has little excuse. Hardly a meaningful fight in years and years.

He may as well retire if he doesn't want the Spence fight.

Errol Spence should start to look at other options now as it doesn't seem likely that anything will happen with Crawford this year.

Or maybe even the next.

Surely even those corrupt 4/5 individuals who run boxing can see how short sighted their actions are?

Eddie Hearn used to talk about doing what's best for the sport long term, but it now looks as if even 'Steady Eddie' has given up and just wants to cash out.

Hopefully this Saturday's Benn v Eubank showdown will give us something to get excited about.

This is off topic but I don't understand why you guys give Canelo such a hard time. He is a super middleweight and did beat all the other champions out there in one year and then moved on to the next division to fight the number one man there, lost and came back for what might have seemed like an exhibition but still something that needed a closure.

On topic: I wouldn't mind Crawford and Spence retiring tomorrow. This fight will never happen and no one outside the US knows who they are anyway.

Spence said it is happening next and Floyd said it isn't happening in November so hopefully those things are not at odds. Someone commented on the video that it might be held the weekend before the Super Bowl.

I read the article/interview on a different site and didn't see anything where Floyd said Spence works for him. Espinoza, the wannabe promoter, said he thinks it happens, but probably not November.

People say a lot of stupid things on twitter and other sites. It's a good thing I think they aren't negotiating through the media.

Well, both Canelo and Mayweather do also know something about ageing out potentially dangerous opponents.

This is in addition to the idea of 'marinating' big fights. Or belt holders demanding that opponents have to 'earn' the right to fight them.

It is a pity that boxers today are happy to allow themselves to be treated as mere product.

So, a couple of years down the line we still have no idea when or even if this fight is actually happening.

The whole charade has not been a good reflection on either Crawford or Spence.

Perhaps neither camps are very confident?
