I imagine in the grand scheme of things the RING belt is arguably the most meaningless of them all. Undisputed is about who has the WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF titles. Everything else is just tinker toys. The Ring magazine belt hasn't had the same prestige it used to have back in the day, and I reckon to Tyson Fury's mind since he's already been Ring champion twice already it's the one easiest to give up.

Well I'm a big Tyson Fury fan and said from his pro debut onwards that he would be the heavyweight champion. Sure I would love the lineal and or undisputed champion to also have the Ring magazine belt, but ultimately at the end of the day that is a paper belt. It's awarded by sports writers not by boxing organizations.

Ring magazine is not exactly the pillar of integrity either considering their own ranking system has been manipulated over time, and certain awards given every year has gone to people it shouldn't have gone to, and certain articles have been written over time try to discredit people that they did not necessarily like or have a financial interest in.

Then again I'm talking about Ring magazine having been bought by Oscar De la Hoya years ago (2007) and it's never quite been the same since. No fighter or promoter should ever own or have financial stake in a syndicate because that is a conflict of interest.

So I guess Fury figures there's more money in constantly giving up and "regaining" the title as opposed to defending it?

Because I'd think a fight between he and Usyk or he and Joshua would draw the same regardless, but who knows.

Either he's a Prima Donna who just constantly craves attention, and has to constantly make some sorta career move even if it's "ending it" just to stay in the Boxing news.

Or, he legitimately has these wild mood swings, and will decide one week he's about to take on Dereck Chisora again, and will decide the next that he's retiring.

He is a desperate attention seeker - who`s mood dips when he is not getting attention. That simple.

It's part of an act but part of it is real.

I think from a particular point of view Tyson Fury figures if he gives up the belts only to regain them it makes him multiple times the heavyweight champion of the world and I think that's part of the end game for Fury to be in that same stratosphere as Holyfield, Lewis and Ali @ three plus times heavyweight champion.

But I also think there's a part of him that honestly does not give a crap either because he's already won every belt that there is, and really all the belts are to his mind are bargaining chips--- and if somebody else has more belts on their resume it makes them look all the more dangerous or credible which only makes the fight worth more money if and when it ever gets made.

If Usyk beats Joshua again and is Ring Magazines champion and top p4p fighter, it would certainly be hyped up as the toughest challenge of Tyson Fury's career. A real "Masters of the Boxing Universe," kind of showdown especially since there hasn't been an outright undisputed fight since Lennox Lewis.

If Joshua wins against Usyk, then you certainly have the biggest British fight of all time on our hands where we have a 3x champion in Joshua go up against the lineal/WBC undefeated champion and it could be called "Better Late than Never," because the fight everybody wanted to happen years back would finally be here and a win over the Ukrainian would give people a bit of faith that Joshua has finally worked out all the chinks in his armor.

I do think, as to your original question, there probably is more money involved in regaining titles than it is in defending titles. By how much I'm uncertain but probably a 10% boost or better because the organizations absolutely love it when they're belts are put up for grabs instead of just paying standard sanctioning fees.

Lastly all of these antics that Fury does is a combination of mind games to make possible future opponents mentally exasperated, but it's also ploys to keep his name out there--- even if such tactics makes him unlikable to a certain segment of boxing fans. I'm reminded a bit of how Howard Stern had a huge fan base which was mostly comprised of people who absolutely hated him, that by aggravating the public it only made them tune in more. Muhammad Ali was the same way, and to a lesser extent so was Floyd Mayweather the same way.
