Good list though I’d lose the hyperbole Haye and put in the straight talking Barry Jones. I think we all agree that Ian darke is the absolute gold standard, it’s a shame BT have him on the football now. They should get him back he’s clearly a boxing man

In this country of course where someone went to school matters, as it has a huge influence on their subsequent life/career trajectory.
The reality is that if you went to the right kind of school you get a huge head-start in life and access to opportunities that others simply don't get.
The criticism is of the system, not the individuals.

Your criticism may not be of the individuals, but others on here certainly have. It can give you an advantage, but it isn't guaranteed to. All of us can only play the hand we've been dealt.

Paul Smith is an excellent pundit.

You could tell Darke had a lot of respect for Glenn.

Both Darke and Costello are play-by-play guys. Whilst I think they’re both really good I don’t think they’d work together. I think they’d need an ex-pro in there. I’d go Frampton or Jones.

Alex Arthur was good when he was on.

David Haye should be on SKY as either presenter or colour commentator. He's a very good talker and obviously knows the game inside out. I'm old enough to remember when commentators didn't show any biased, but that all changed after Harry shouted, "Get in there Frank." Like most on here, Ian Darke was fantastic and would be a welcome return, although he is great doing the footy on BT. Glen and Ian together were excellent, but Glen isn't what he used to be. DAZN pulled a flanker getting Mike Costello and I really enjoy Andy Lee, his 'Homer Simpson' comment was possibly the funniest thing I've ever heard a boxing commentator say. Adam Smith without the bias would be fine, but he ain't gonna change. Laura Woods is a tremendous talent and she would be an excellent presenter for any sports show. Some people on here are saying that people need to be former pros, but that is nonsense. Reg Gutteridge was the best to ever pick up a microphone and he hadn't boxed before. Realistically, SKY aren't going to get Costello or Darke, so they will need to look elsewhere. Ed Robinson doing interviews and roving at ringside is good. I always liked how HBO would go to Harold Lederman for his scores. I would really like that in this country, a knowledgeable, well-spoken former boxing judge giving his scores and opinion on fouls and if points should or should not be taken off.

Ahhh I forgot Woodhall…. Definitely add him to the Pundit list.

I should also point out that I wouldn’t put the commentators together.

This is a roster you pick and choose from to suit the occasion.

You’d pick one of the pundits for co-comms!

My 1 and 2 in no paticular order would definetly be Frampton and Jones has the pundits , commentator theres lots with good experience , just got to tell them what there there for , and leave the specelist talk to the specelist .

Did'nt mind Smith felt his heart british boxing was in the right place ,, just that he tried wearing too many hats , Commentator , pundit, freind to everyone ,

I don't get too worked up about commentators etc like some people, even pundits don't bother me in the slightest apart from Johnny Nelson who's dishonest in his opinions, tbf I'm usually outside in the backies having a joint in-between fights or on my phone so I'd be lying if i said I was paying attention, the worst commentator by far is Mannix,

Best by far is Crystina Poncher, she's quality as is Corey Erdman who I'm seeing more and more of these days

Andy Clarke is the best we have and Poncher is the best of all.
They're engaging and always seem to tell us something from behind-the-scenes that we wouldn't know.

Who cares what school they went to ? Or their skin colour, gender, sexuality or whatever for that matter..?
They are good at their jobs.

There is a culture around boxing that has been festering for generations. There was plenty written and I am sure there is plenty to write about that has not being written yet.

Reg Gutteridge boxed as an amateur before the war. After losing a leg during the war he turned to press reporting and then commentating. His father and uncle, the Gutteridge Twins, and his Grandfather Arthur, were steeped in boxing. He came from boxing royalty
