He beat the champion of a division with Adam Balski and Alen Babic ranked number three and four in the world. He did his job but it's really nothing to get excited about.
Surely people can get excited about what they want ? :maybe:

Okolie has had plenty of stick over the years ,fella deserves a break and it's pretty obvious you didn't want him to win .

Did you want Rozanski to win?

I think Kevin Lerena was in and around the mandatory argument for the Bridgerweight title a little while back. Interested to know if his narrow loss to Justis Huni puts paid to that?

Didn't see enough of Rozanski but Lawrence is good when he lets his hands go I think.

Okolie is a banger, don't think the Pole is much though, saying that he looked to have sold the place out.

well as world title fights go there wasnt much of a contest .

TBF Okolie just had to beat what was in front of him and did very easily managing to even throw some punches along the way .

Lerena is the "interim champion" according to the WBC rankings so Okolie could be ordered to defend against him. Tishchenko could also be an option at bridgerweight, he won the WBA title last year but his status is under review by the WBA as he failed a drug test.

A fight Vs Lerena would be a good way for him to gauge how he may look against heavyweights given what happened in the Lerena/Dubois fight.

Would be a great fight. Winnable for Lerena

Come off it man. He won a very straightforward fight and he looks right at the weight, let's see how he gets on when he steps it up again. I've got no ill will towards him.
Sorry Sam, I was being mardy. And ironically a moron. I hope you're well.

I think I'm manopausal.

All good, let's hope for more resistance from Lerena, should Okolie decide to defend that belt.

Thank you. I had not thought of Lerena, he really impressed me doing so well in his last fight especially after a parent had died just prior. Is there a pool of identified Bridgers? Do you think all 4 weights will eventually have it?

A few decent fighters got themselves ranked at bridgerweight with the WBC and WBA. Andrew Tabiti and Badou Jack are probably the best names in there outside of Okolie and Lerena. Tom Schwarz is also hanging around. It's the weakest division in boxing for obvious reasons but I actually think
you could make a few interesting fights and maybe tempt Usyk to go for another easy undisputed run.

It could be ok after a while. Cruiser is the poor younger brother but I have always liked it as it has strong, fit , athletic fighters getting stuck in. The first super middle champion was Murray Sutherland and although tough, wasn't elite. Smw is very good now

A little OT maybe but why isn't bridgerweight recognized by boxrec? Who's making decisions on the site?

Someone with common sense, fck the WBC and their money making schemes, as long as the other 3 don't recognize bridgerweight neither should any of us, ignore it and it hopefully goes away

I completely understand where you're coming from, I think the amount of weight classes and belts are part of the problem boxing has, going away from being an actual sport to narrative driven show.

But that's just us as fans having these feelings, the reality is the WBC and WBA have bridgerweight rankings and champions. It's here to stay. So boxrec ignoring it seems childish and unprofessional.

Can't agree with you on that pal, everyone ignored the Franchise trash and thankfully wretched Mo had to bin it because no matter how many times he moved the goalposts with it, nobody played ball, as for the WBA, they need to clean to their own mess before introducing any new belts, divisions etc

The moment anyone becomes undisputed they should vacate everything and keep the Ring, why pay sanctioning fees anymore?, everyone knows Usyk for instance is the man up at heavy

Something like that but no fees, no regular or franchise straps and I can't remember politix being a major factor in their rankings

Don't think that would work for most world champions. Rarely do the best fight each other, extremely rarely do they fight all other top boxers. Who really knows who the best in a weight class is? Who knows who the best welterweight is, you could make a case for Crawford but he only fought one top guy at welterweight. Who knows who the best cruiserweight is? Opetaia? Only fought one top guy. Bivol or Beterbiev? Your pick, we don't know, it's just based on opinions. So one top boxer not paying sanctioning fees might make sense for him in an outlier case where he got so much publicity and did so much in the sport that he's a clear number one but for the vast majority it actually makes sense to get to that "WBA super normal super world super universe champion" belt.

What I'm saying is: The boxers don't really have a choice. Okolie was a legit cruiserweight champion, we don't know how good he really was as he never fought the other top guys but him taking the bridgerweight title instead of fighting a bigger name for more money at heavyweight shows us how important the champion status is.

I don't like it but it what it is. Ignoring bridgerweight as "©BoxRec is the official record keeper for 410 sports authorities worldwide, it is not under direct control of any single authority", come on, that's just unprofessional.

Whenever someone becomes undisputed it's clear their no1 in the division, not sure why that's hard to understand, I'm no talking about ABC holders, I understand they need the title for clout etc, undisputed is different, you've solidified yourself as the man, don't need the ABC baubles anymore, save yourself fees, stick they belts in the trash can

As for boxrec being unprofessional for not recognizing a weight division that nobody else does bar Sulamain, I think you should direct your ire towards the WBC, they even made a balls up of the actual weight criteria for bridgerweight, if that doesn't tell you it's got nothing to do with weight safety and everything to do with them collecting those fees then you'll be in the minority im afraid
