Okolie looks great when he's levels above the opposition, but anyone approaching a challenge and the fight turns into a mess, because he employs octopus mode.

I can only see it being worse at heavyweight.

Now make Okolie vs Bakole in a battle of the Ole's. Sombrero's all round.
Just never ever , been able to understand why promoters not only put boring , non ticket selling fighters ons there shows, let alone pay good money to get them non competetive easy fights , its completly got me stumped
Okolie has had some boring fights but he’s won his last 2 by first round KO and looked good in those fights. He already has a pretty high ranking with the WBC at heavyweight and could find himself in some pretty big fights.
All good UNTIL you have a close look at the records of the 2 opponents he just beat , Still when he's in with the big boys , he may have to stop wrestling and actually throw some punches

I am looking forward to seeing okolie in against a proper live opponent throwing and moving around and then we can see how the extra weight helps him . My view is he will be gassed after 4/ 5 rounds and revert to type huggin and holdin ... until he gets walloped the F out 🤣

Question is what kind of a threat can he be at heavy. I'd see Dubois just steam rolling him and rag dolling him worse than he did AJ
His head looked tiny. Like a pip :D

I can't see him beating Dubois but there's still plenty of other fights out there. As I said on a previous page. I think he's going to upset a few people. This thread will still be rumbling on in a year or two.

The above sentence now guarantees he gets knocked out in his next fight.

I think he has to be matched well, or he’ll be found out in short order.

He doesn’t have to footwork/ring smarts to avoid the big guys.

I can't see Huggy Bear making it at HW.

His ugly style won't endear him to the fans and it won't help him in the ring, because he'll either get banged out or DQ'd.

Good grief, Wladimir Clinchko V Huggy Bear; those two would need to get a room.

They'd be cuddling each other like new lovers!

I am not sure why his body look makes a bean of difference. Unless you like looking at muscley men.
I think when transitioning between weight classes it's important that they are able to be effectively fast or strong or fit in the new weight class. Here it looked like he added a load of belly weight without adding comparably significant muscle to other parts of his frame. Just my opinion.
makes sense, he did an interview saying he will be 240ish in future which sounds rational imo

I agree. Think that's an optimal weight for most heavyweights. Very few can get to the top level being way heavier or way lighter than that.

No reason why Okolie can't beat a Fury, AJ, Dubois, Parker in my opinion. Usyk would outclass him. Zhang would bang him out. Bakole would turn into a horror to watch. He's live against anyone else. I'd take him over Wardley.

okolie gets well beaten by all of the above .

chubby larry is okay and could make it around 10-15 but i dont think he'd beat most of the guys named. hes not such a physical freak as a soft heavyweight and doesnt really have a standout quality vs bigger guys

The likes of Joshua and Dubois are not really that good at all. Similar level for me. Outside fencers and Okolie can do that all day. Parker is going to be on the backfoot all night or get tangled up in a messy fight. I do think Usyk and Zhang have his number though. Wilder has always been woeful. Fury is also a hypejob and could easily get sparked by Okolie. I do think Okolie might have trouble with Bakole but we've seen Bakole quit and he is very crude coming forward, could easily get tagged and show his quitting mentality again. It's a sad indictment of the division but Okolie is a player.

dubois is not an outside fencer. quite the opposite he comes right at you, and with far more power and intensity than okolie. okolie doesnt hit nearly as hard as joshua as either. maybe castrate aj's power and he becomes okolie.

he is not a giant like fury or a massive hitter like wilder

it's feasible to me that he could give the likes of parker a go, but even then, i think parker's hand speed is a greater attribute than anything okolie brings at hw.

most of the guys at the very top of the division have had at least 1 standout elite quality of some sort. okolie at hw .... im not seeing it. that's why i think he's more 2nd/3rd tier at best, especially if this fat larry, who talks about how he loves eating all day now, keeps showing up

Agreed. Also it’s the heavyweights. Things change very quickly. Dubois was a write off after Joe Joyce, Lerena and Usyk and now look? And compare that to where Joe Joyce is after stopping Dubois and Parker, 3 losses in a row and one to a shopworn Chisora.

Dubois’s transformation from a chinny quitter to a (well technically at least) world champion who’s smashed Joshua has been astonishing.

The heavyweights are always a bit light on top class talent so one good win and you’re up there. Okolie was probably struggling with the weight terribly at cruiser. He has a heavyweight frame and can punch.

yeah, he seems in a very good place mentally too (not that I know him at all of course) and seems to focused and is investing his money wisely, I think he can be in some good fights at HW and seems acutely aware he needs a watchable style these days
