I know and at my age although I saw him fight twice sadly both were defeats Dunn and Mwale, this old memory fades some stuff out.

That 115-113 is one of the worst cards you’ll see all year. He wants reprimanding.

there are far far worse cards than that, fights where guys who deserve to win end up losing widely. the fact that the right man actually won on the card is enough for it to not be near that bad. at the end of the year absolutely no one will be talking about the 115-113 card in this fight, in fact youre the only person ive seen complain so far

What a bloody good main event. Non stop for 12 rounds. Great fight, rounds just flew by before I knew it we were in the 12th.

Decent atmosphere too, not the best but both boxers brought a dent fan base.

Shame lots of empty seats if I was to guess I'd say 3/4 full. Plenty of opportunities to move to better seats too.

Some decent fights on the card but not impressed by Fury, quite odd a 6 rounder first time out. Luckily the journeyman didn't have a punch or Fury might have been in trouble.

Why haven't British middleweights and super middle got a punch these days? The likes of Benn and Eubank, Froch and Calzaghe would have dispatched these journeymen with ease. Where has the power gone?

Yes, the atmosphere the Bansley lot make is quite impressive. There's not many like him in this country.

116-112 Simpson, cracking scrap, a bit messy at times, a fair amount of mauling but still some great action, Simpson was fast out the traps, taking the fight to Williamson who conceded too much ground early and spent too long on the ropes getting tattooed, think it was the 3rd Simpson near took his head clean off it's shoulders, would've decked lesser men for sure, Simpson was bang up for it but Williamson got into the fight, tried to control middle of the ring and was no surprise he had more success when not allowing himself to be back up, it became an even fight but full credit to Simpson he looked like he wouldn't be denied, bit down on his gumshield and came out on top in a firefight, sterling performance to get revenge

Simpson's back on track and answered a lot of questions regarding his ability to make the Super middleweight limit and still be effective over 12 hard rounds.

Will not say its the only reaon BUT i do think a large part of it is the training , or rather lack of it , days gone by boxing trainers trained boxers . Now S&C coaches , diatetians , and mates have a large input ,

Simpson won't get carried away after revenge against Williamson

Callum Simpson refused to look too far ahead after evening the score with Troy Williamson on Saturday.

With his career on the line, the popular 29-year-old from Barnsley managed to grind out an exciting unanimous decision in a hotly contested rematch at Leeds’ First Direct Arena.

In doing so, he regained the British and Commonwealth super middleweight titles he lost by tenth-round stoppage on December 20. Simpson made some major changes in the aftermath of his first professional defeat.

The biggest was his decision to start training with the highly respected Rob McCracken.

Things didn’t go perfectly on Saturday night.

Simpson absorbed some big shots from Williamson and was undoubtedly hurt at times but remained upright and managed to maintain his customary high work rate right to the final bell.

In his dressing room post-fight, a relieved Simpson (19-1, 13 KOs) told DAZN although he went through some difficult times after an upset loss, never lacked faith in his own ability.

“I'm always confident. After the first fight, my confidence never left,” he said.

“I knew I had a very off night. I always train hard, believe in my preparation and that's where my confidence comes from.
“I've worked too hard for too long to not be confident and enjoy it. That first loss was horrible but all I can do is learn and get better. That's what I've done and there's a lot more to improve on as well.”

Simpson has quickly developed into one of British boxing's biggest ticket sellers with thousands of fans flocking to his fights at Barnsley’s Oakwell Stadium.

That type of drawing power gives Simpson a real say at any negotiating table he sits at and the aim is for him to eventually fight for a super middleweight world title in South Yorkshire.

Simpson admitted afterwards that he only employed the things he and McCracken had been working on for about “5% of the time” during the Williamson rematch and although the result should see him re-enter the world rankings, made it clear that his immediate priority is to continue learning and improving.

“I'll speak to Rob, my team and Boxxer. Whether it is defending the British and Commonwealth or pushing on, I've got a lot to keep learning so don't want to say anything crazy while I'm on a high but there's so many opportunities,” he said.

“Obviously, I want to be fighting for a world title in Barnsley at Oakwell but that'll probably be next summer so, until then, let's keep on improving and getting better.”

We’ve not see Hamzah Sheeraz sell out an arena yet, he will against Callum Simpson. That will be a phenomenal fight. 100% [we will pursue that]. And I think it’s a fight that can be easily made.”

“I have not seen it other than what people said around — look, obviously it’s hard to sell tickets at the moment so I understand it is hard.”

On Sam Hickey and their ongoing promotional dispute
“He’s still our fighter. He’s a great fighter and he’s in a long-term contract with Boxxer so I’m excited, genuinely…The courts will have to get involved unless someone’s sensible. So, look, we don’t live in a lawless society. They’re trying to change the law over there…It’s like — you see what goes on in America now and the politics over there and things that happen and things that are allowed. Thankfully we have a system in this country and I’ve got nothing against Sam. I’m bemused by the situation, he’s a Boxxer fighter.”

Apologies for the late response. It just didn’t feel like a particularly close fight. At the final bell plenty headed straight for the exits believing it was a clear Simpson victory. I wondered if I’d got carried away in the heat of the moment so I watched it back the day after & scored it 117-111.

I sometimes think that if there’s a bit of controversy in the first fight to the benefit of one fighter the judges often go the other way in the rematch.

One of the judges in the first fight had it really wide to Simpson even giving him round 2 which was a very clear Williamson round & then there was all the talk about Victor Loughlin’s reaction afterwards.

Similar happened in the Taylor - Catterall rematch where they scored it quite wide to Catterall in a close fight which I think was an over the top reaction to the scoring in the first fight.
