Mina was the only fighter listed worth a mention. I wouldn't have any of the others on my list if the ballot called for 500 fighters.

How bout Pascual Perez, Betulio Gonzalez, Santos Laciar, Antonio Esparragoza or Rodrigo Valdes?

Perez was elected on the 9th ballot.

There is one great boxer, that was over shadowed by Barney Ross, his stable mate DAVEY DAY, was the gangling watch dog for Champion Barney Ross, who didn't have to protect his lightweight title for nearly years, because you had to beat Dovey first to get a shot Ross. Pian & Winch managers of the house Rosschild , offered Tony Canzoneri to what he was clamoring for a trilogy match with Barney, if he can conquer Davey first. He'd rather fight Ambers. They wouldn't let Davey get pass Al Roth, to fight Canzozeri next. Armstrong, Montanez , Massey and many others past on fighting Davey.

Mr. Day fought Champion Lou Ambers in a non-title fight 1937 in NY. getting the referees nod in losing in a split decision, many ringsiders said that Davey won the fight, hands down. Mr. Day remained the #1. lightweight contender. The N.B.A in 1940. stripped Champion Ambers crown for not meeting Davey This is when the NYSAC split with NBA and kept Lou Ambers as their Champion. Mr. Day started the lightweight follies. Mike Jacobs the czar of all Championship fights in New York, protected all his House Champions from Mr. Day. In 1939 Davey nearly beat the great Henry Armstrong for his Welterweight Title. Interesting to note both combatants were lightweights, Day had to come in at 136 lbs to protect Armstrongs Lightweight. Davey fought half the fight blind in one eye, completely closed by Hanks elbows not his punches. Hank hit Davey every round south of the border, and was penalized for just two rounds, in the 11th rd. he came out and hit Dacey five times below the belt. The referee stopped the fight in the 12th rd. He looked in amazement at Armstrong's bloody face and said "You can rest." Armstrong was helped out of the ring still wearing his crown. He also, said, he's never seen any fighter throw as punches in a fight then Henry, which was called at 2000 in 12 rds. Davey sent Armstrong to the hospital, with a broken right hand, placed in a cast, a gashed left eyelid requiring four stitches, badly bruised left hand and bruised up face. Mr. Day went home with a red eye. Pian & Wich offered $35,000 to Henry Armstrong for a re-match with Davey, he turned it down. they also offered $35,000 to Champion Lou Ambers he turned it.

Did you know that Davey Day had over 250 both amateur and pro, and never suffered a cut eye. Name any fighter who had over 250 fights that never was cut. He only lost 2 amateur fights out of fight 150 plus. I am taking a break. Thank you.

Just wondering if there are still plans to reopen induction in 2020? It's an excellent list. Not too many names in there I'd question and everyone in my personal top 40 who's currently eligible is in, with the notable exception of Tommy Hearns. But I realize he wasn't eligible the last time voting was held. He'd certainly be my first choice if voting starts up again.

11 votes were cast; Hearns received 11 votes, Chavez, Lewis, Pryor, and Tyson received 9, De La Hoya received 8.

Hard to believe Tommy Burns hasn't made the cut. He beat Philadelphia Jack O'Brien twice (A biased Jeffries robbed him the first time) in world title fights. He could have claimed the light heavyweight title if he had bothered to. He broke the colour line by giving Jack Johnson a shot even though the US press was dead against it. He made the championship truly international by defending it outside America.

The real Hall of Fame inducted him a long time ago.
