There are some good posts along side the crap in this thread, and I am sure Tony (and maybe Froch) are interested in the posts.

As for the slagging match, maybe its good to have one (just one) thread open which will be left unedited so no-one involve can accuse the other of "editing my post".

So for now at least, its thread open.... unless another mod disagrees of course.

But I agree let the slanging match on this thread run its course. But I hope it doesn't spill over into other threads as I fear it might.

What a total retard alert.

Ahhh ... I see it is not long before the insults creep in.
Not my usual style, but keyboard warrior is unfair to say to a fighter.
Yet people give him a big chance against a guy the likes of Oscar D H are saying is going to be a world champion ... ODH does not make those sort of statements too frequently ...
He's only saying that because DLH has a deal with Hennessy.

I think Dodson can win because even though Froch KO'ed Magee, he had to walk through shots to do it and not sure if he can do that with the naturally bigger Dodson or out muscle him with the lack of defence Froch has.

Seems to me that McCracken trained fighters are sloppy too after seeing Cocoran's fight on the Witter/Corley card against a journyman, although he KO'ed the guy.

This thread really went downhill quick. Its a shame Spud and Ben Carey had to insult and criticise Dodson on such a personal level in order to promote Carl Froch. But then again thats agendas for you i guess.....

I think this fight is too early for Dodson. Realistically he should be still in his comeback. He will know this himself. Instead he is taking on a world class fighter in Froch. He will have doubts himself. But he has such heart that he ignores such doubts and takes the fight anyway. If Tony would have waited till Froch vacated he would have won back the belt with no problem at all. But he never. So to hell with questions about heart or balls. Tony is stepping in the ring ffs what more can you ask for? There is nothing wrong with wanting to wait until you are in top class condition before facing a Carl Froch is there? I know i certainly wouldn't face him unless i was 110%. Maybe Ben Carey would?

Both fighters are confident. Both like to say a few words. But deep down they have respect for one another. Somebody will get stopped i guarantee that. Froch is on a crest of a wave at the moment. Dodson will be looking at Froch and thinking that should be him. However I think Froch's best is better than Tony's. Whether Froch performs to his best is another thing altogether. Head says Froch, heart would like Dodson.

I think the problem on this thread, really, is that some have used it to pursue their personal issues with Ben and Spud. I've had problems with Spud in the past, and have disagreed with lots of things he's done, but, jeez, Rhino222 made 1 post to say good luck to Dodson, but then every single post was dedicated to attacking/goading spud in some way. There was one early saying ‘Ben has posted, so where’s his side kick’, then nothing until 4 in a row at the end of page 5 and the start of page 6 that were written one after the other with nobody posting in the mean time, and were simply attacks on Spud. Conspicuous was the absence of boxing related content.

It's time to let it go, boys. Even if we accept that Spuds been a c-nt in the past, much like Americans torturing enemy combatants in the name of freedom and justice, a witch-hunt like this makes you just as bad as the person your vitriol is aimed at.

And it's ruining this thread.

Anyway, Dodson is good, and showed huge promise as a youngster a four or five years ago. But since then it's all gone a bit Pete Tong. Poor results and bad luck have combined to completely stall his career, unfortunately. And now he's stepping in the ring with Froch woefully short of quality ring time.

I really don't think Froch is World Class, and I'm not sure I like his brand of promotion too much, but I have to give him credit. He thinks he's the best, but instead of just saying it every time he sees a journalist and coasting in the ring and gym a-la Audley, he actually tries his hard to prove his claims. He lives the life of the boxer and comes into every fight in superb shape. Furthermore, Froch should get credit for attempting to clear out the domestic scene before moving on -- something we complain about when other boxers don't do it.

I think his superior experience at a higher level, his activity over the last couple of years, and his superb conditioning will set him apart from Dodson tonight. Which is shame, because much as I've been witness to some absolute Dodson forum bullshit, and some fairly shocking personal attacks, his real life persona, is, apparently, far removed from that. If he wins, tonight, you'd have to give him some big time respect, but even if he loses, there should be plenty of cash he can make on the domestic/European scene. I just hope he can overcome the bad luck.

carbo...

this is the same spud that as recently as last week has been blocking/banning/editing people on b-talk just because they dont promote fight academy fighters, its bound to get peoples backs up. ive received numerous texts from knob head himself declaring that he is finished with forums etc....finished with moderating etc.... and then mysteriously a group of reasonably versed creditable posting guys suddenly are unable to view a forum, let alone post on it....their crime? ...... not backing a FA fighter in a recent bout !

if you are in favour of this arsehole being on any forum then you are in the minority mate, you did not see what was written about dodson (by spud etc) a couple of months ago. it was very disrespectful considering tony is brave enough to 'get in there' ...

and spud... as for you seeing me there tonight at nottingham. firstly you would not go as you would need to purchase a ticket, and secondly, if you hide from mick hennessy at every opportunity, you are hardly likely to enter his building.

but the fella in the kiosk will be pleased to see you, those signed posters were a nice little earner for him........oh.... and for you of course.. :TU:

Rhino, don't you see how childish this all looks. Surely a public forum isn't the place to vent your dissatisfaction with somebody who you know. You have eachother's number, you were in the army together, went to Vegas together and used to be mates forchristssake. Can't you act like an adult?

Frankly, I can understand why you were banned bearing in mind your actions here. Only your very first post contained any boxing related matter, and the rest have been a non stop torrent of abuse. Can't you have a go at Spud somewhere else and let us chat about boxing?

Hello Holyfield,

Your post warrants a reply ... myself and Ben have absolutely no agenda's against Tony Dodson. Carl Froch is indeed a Hennessy Sports fighter and I do a few odd jobs here and there for Fight Academy and thus why would I have an agenda??

Quite simply I have always rated Carl Froch as World Class ... saying all that knowing my luck I will have egg all over my face this evening if Dodson wins. Tony Dodson went nuts on other forums simply because we had the audacity to disagree with him ... I will not go any further.

Regardless of who Dodson is, just because he is fighting Froch I would want to see him beaten, I have followed Froch's career with a keen interest since his very first professional fight and really want to see him do well. That is the only agenda I have.

You bring out some good points ... The biggest criticism of Carl Froch has always been the defensive issues and the way he always lets one hand lay low. But do you honestly think Tony Dodson is the man to finally expose those frailities?? Look at the evidence ...

Look at Dodsons losses ... coming later in the fight which suggests to me if he is not on top in a fight he loses confidence and the desire to reach into those depths of reserves ... Look at Froch and I point out the Charles Adamu fight ... Froch lost virtually everyone of those first 5 to 6 rounds but then came storming back. Look at recent fights Froch starts getting really strong from the halfway mark onwards.

Tony Dodson's chance in this fight is early ... Froch will be nervous I know he will and Dodson's only chance in my view is to take advantage of those nerves ... Froch will be boxing in front of a Big crowd this evening with a lot hinging on the result of the fight.

But then I go to only the last 2 results of Dodson ...

In June 2006 he fought Jamie Hearn ... In my View hardly a terrific performance to be able to come away stating that result would instal confidence that Dodson has all the abilities to be able to dispose of Carl Froch.

Then in March of this year Dodson was taken the 4 rounds in beating Dimitry Adamovich a fight which was won by 2 points ... incidentally Froch smashed Adamovich apart in only his 10th fight.

If Dodson and his fans were to have any justification of real confidence in this fight you have to say there would have to be recent fights to go on to instal that confidence ...

Dodson's best win is against Brian Barbosa ... please feel free to have a look at his record ... how good was he??

Tony Dodson is clearly a very good fighter and one who warrants respect but in the context of trying to justify confidence and past evidence on him beating Carl Froch it quite simply is not there.

What is further worrying for me is that Tony Dodson rarely visits any of these forums unless of course it is to "promote" himself and tell everyone what he is up to ... what other threads does he join in?? ...

My point here is only 3 days before the biggest fight of his career he was on this forum and elsewhere attemtping to instal confidence in himself and trying to drum up support against Froch ... why else post what he did?? ... I find that rather worrying if I were a supporter of Dodson because if he were that confident there would be no need to visit this forum would there before the fight ... if he were that confident he could bask in the glory after his emphatic victory afterwards ... ... another point to make on this issue name one other professional boxer who has visited any forum so close to such a massive fight?? ... indeed name one other Sportsman who has visited any discussion forum knowing the volatile nature of them prior to potentially a career defining moment in his career??

I don't see what's wrong with coming on the forums. There is very little about this fight in the media so there's no harm in him starting a topic in a forum to see what people think. Major fighters don't need to do this because there's already enough articles etc. about them in the media.

Some here have suggested that Dodson shouldn't spend his time sitting on front of a computer in the week before the biggest fight of his career, but this is something that takes a few minutes to do so he's hardly missing out on his preparations and training over it.

And if he's doing it to try to rally the troops and get a confidence boost from reading messages of support, so be it, what's the big deal?

John,

Surely in the complex world of boxing Dodson should be that confident there is no need to go into the murky and volatile world of internet discussion forums to instal that confidence??

Name one other sportsman who has done the same prior to such a definining moment in his career!!!

Well, its each to their own though isn’t it. Personally I think its great that Dodson chooses to post on here and also respond to questions via PM etc. I don’t see how it’s a bad thing simply because other boxers don’t, or choose not to?

I still think Froch will win, by stoppage in the later rounds, but Dodson has earned a lot of respect from some quarters on here for being accessible and choosing to discuss the fight with fans.

Yes, he does. Boxing is a brilliant sport for accessibility. Boxers are normally great and respectful guys who actually take the time to talk to the press and fans.

There are far fewer pre-madonnas in boxing than in any other sport I can think of.

That being said, I do seem to remember being called a 'c-nt' by Dodson for saying I thought Froch would beat him just before their 3rd scheduled meeting

Well the forum here IMO, contains some of the most knowledgable and intelligent posters I have seen on any website and for any sport. It would not surprise me at all to hear that many boxers visit here anonomously either as a guest or under a false name to read the views of some of the regular posters. As you well know, a lot of the guys posting here write or have written for websites, so what is wrong with being interested in what they have to say? As Loft touched on, I think Tony deserves credit for being willing to come on here under his own name and start a discussion about his upcoming fight. It's debatable whether it's the right or wrong thing to do, particularly considering the criticism he has received and what effect that could possibly have on his confidence. It could maybe even motivate him more to prove the doubters wrong. I think it's important for a fighter to have people around him who are positive and are constantly building up his confidence, and to block everything else out, but I'm sure Tony knows that and I don't blame him for being curious about the general view of the neutrals. I think the attacks here have been very personal, but as other people have pointed out, similar comments have been made about Froch.

No, I have no connection with Spud, I'm afraid. I used to work with him when Ben Carey edited the UK section of doghouseboxing, and since then I've posted on a couple of other forums where Spud has posted.

We haven't always got along, as Rhino will testify, but, I do think the hammer he's got here is a little unfair given that he and Ben were only offering an opinion.
