Must say I'm really enjoying this little sounding board session, very interesting and rewarding to hear your views. Obviously, in my position, there is a danger of becoming a little too close to see clearly at times so it is good to get your perspective. Thank you all.

But I need some serious helping out here chaps - we've reached the silly point in heavyweight history and I was considering ending the heavyweight calendar series before getting into all the interims and whatnots and you know what I mean.

What would you prefer? All the nonsense or a different form of calendar - dunno, great middleweight champions or something - next time?

The photos and layout of BM are excellent, and have been for years, really top class, and caused me to stop buying the other mags some time back ( Ring, KO etc ) Plus it's about as up to date as you can get, but of course sometimes it's impossible to fit a late fight in, like Hatton/PBF.

But like I say, it would be an excellent addition if your team could start tracking down some of the old faces from the 80's/90's - the fighters we never hear about any more ( not the Durans and Leonards )
it could make for some brilliant reading.

I used to like Farhoods alternative year end awards in KO back in the 80's as well, and it would beat the hell out of the re-heated quote feature, if done well.
Funnily enough, while I was thinking of this, I saw Oliver has just done something similar for BBN.

KO used to have awards like "The Azumah Nelson where he come from? award"....

or "The don't get up to get a beer award" - which could probably go to one of Enzo Maccarinelli's "opponents" - EVERY YEAR.

Tough call, personally I would like to see you finish off the Heavyweights (Big four organisations only).

Yes, I say finish what you started. The 90s had some excellent heavyweights which it would be a shame to omit. But I'd say stick to the big 3, rather than 4, otherwise we might still be going in 2024.

Chagaev and Maskaev have as much of a claim as, say, Gerrie Coetzee. Just finish the run, big 3 only, and you'll be fine.

Think you're right Oliver, in the fairest sense of continuity. Those guys have, after all, won the belts. But personally, had the last calendar ended with Vitali as December, I'd have been quite happy to leave it there.

Worryingly, I didn;t even realise there was supposed to be a calnder until it was mentioned on here - damn WH Smiths!

Why not scrap the idea of a themed calender and go for the best boxing photography of the preceding year?

We try to use the best shots available to us as we go along from issue to issue Tyke, wouldn't seem right to use them again in a calendar at the end of the year

Why not? Its not like you publish them in anything like the size they'd be on a calender, and the resultant spread of fighters would be a good reflectionof the year just passed. Besides, it isn't like you can source genuinely new photos for any of the other calender ideas!

I dread the thought of another heavyweight calendar - Botha, Seldon, Briggs, Valuev's hairy back and shoulders... It would ruin my Christmas.

I would like to see classic fight pictures, or perhaps great British champions. Obviously excluding the WB-WHO? variety.

Don't worry about the fractured title situation. BM should turn a negative into a positive by featuring the calendar on "Great Multiple Belt Holders". I mean Zapir Gereev must be a dead cert to be in it holding all those belts at once. It has never been done before and is unlikely to be done again.
