About as close as Hatton-Mayweather except Hatton had more success. Rees didnt land 90% of what he threw

If Witter cannot get Hatton anytime soon, then I'd be quite happy to see him face Kotelnik again. It would be a good chance of another title for Witter and I'm sure Kotelnick would be willing to fight him again.
A much easier fight for Witter this time, he's more motivated now he's WBC champion and won't over work himself.

He did open up Kotelnik's guard and was landing to the body alot.

Just too undersized and dropped his hands too much.

No he wasnt, it was landing on the gloves and the bodywork was going round Kotelniks back or hitting the elbows

If it would've gone the distance and if I would've give the 12th to Kotelnik then I would've had it 116-113. I personally think Steve Bunce saying that it was nearly a "shutout" was a little bit exaggerated myself.

Elbows and clean on the body.

Rees dropped his hands too much like he was trying to be Joe too that contributed to him getting hurt eventually.

The body shots from Rees DID land, but just had little effect, if Rees sorted his defence out then he might have been within a chance of winning like Max it was the dropping of the hands that made him an easy target

Most the body work hit the elbows, it can be hard to land clean on th body but Rees landed very little that didnt land on Kotelniks guard

Kotelnik does have a Winky Wright style guard, he just seems to be able to block everything with it

Rees opened up that guard though and got some good left hooks In when his marbles were In place.

Enzo should of put Gav on strength training so he would at least lasted the distance.

Thought alot of body shots landed, he doesn't have any power In them at light welter though.

First thing he should of taught him was to keep his guard up (well maybe he did). His head was like a speedball all night and Kotelnik had free shot after free shot. Imagine if that was a puncher like Witter, Rees would have been out cold within 3 rounds

Rees neck was snapping back time and again every single round, I thought he'd be ko'd well before the 12th. Contrastingly Kotelniks neck never snapped back because he had an excellent defense.

bollocks.

strength training would have made no difference, it's not enzo's fault. Kotelnik was too good and too strong

When Kotelnik had Rees backing up, all the momentum went the visitor's way. When Rees pulled back, he was a sitting duck for Kotelnik's left hook.

It's a good job Rees was beaten here. I don't think it would be good for his health having any more world level fights.

From allegedly.tv
The ringside judges had Kotelnik winning by three and five rounds
Seems about right. I thought one of the judges might have had Rees level with him being the home fighter.

Rees was beaten by the technically better/bigger man - that had absolutely nothing to do with strength work it was to do with class and defence.

There is no shame in that for Rees Kotelnik was Olympic silver medallist and technically just better.. If he'd lasted the distance he'd have been at least 2-3 rounds down. Even with a home town decision the best he could have hoped for was a draw....

Well I didn't say he was going to win If he did do any strength training did I.

Not that good, just too big.

i have always said that kotelnik was a main player in the division, he is very well schooled and my prediction for the fight was a kotelnik points victory or perhaps a stoppage one down the straight.... i was proved right.

rees is one of the worst real world champions we have seen in this country, i know its better to be a has been than a never will be but rees needs to drop down one weight at least, he is soft around the middle and is too squat to have an impact against a quality operator.

perhaps we will see witter v kotelnik again, i bet hennessy was straight on the phone.

I'm with that. I started a thread on Kotelnik ages ago saying he was one of the 140 elite.

I wonder if Hatton would be interested in Kotelnik.

totoally agree. Extremely well schooled, great amateur pedigree and strong at the weight.

Kotelnik v Torres!

was I the only one that was surprised that Rees didnt get a point taken off him for persistent low blows and ducking below the waist band?

I don't think Kotelnik is a true elite, he'll fall short of the Witter and Hattons and be a reasonable but not spectacular belt holder much like Malignaggi

I agree. Kotelnik is world class, but elite level, that implies he is good enough to be a dominant world champion, which I don't think he is.

He is very well schooled, but a bit methodical and mechanical. He's good enough to give a fighter like Witter a hard night, but remember, he did virtually nothing for the first six rounds, which is always going to make it very difficult to win.

I don't see him beating Hatton, and Malignaggi could well be too fast for him, and could end up winning a boring technical fight by picking and poking his way to a points win without ever getting involved.

Let's not forget, Kotelnik was in there with a very undersized light welterweight, who overachieved against an undermotivated M'baye. M'baye himself was never more than a caretaker in any case.

Kotelnik will maybe have a few defences, but I'll bet he has some soft ones in Germany. I will be very surprised if he gives Witter or Hatton a chance, unless Hatton offers a bundle, which he won't

Yes Kotelnik despite being technically excellent lacks the turn of pace, workrate, power, speed or movement to set him above the pack but he is a solid top5 operator.
