I thought similar but Liam Smith, who is pretty honest, denied it, so it could just be a swerve or a negotiating play.

Matchroom have seemed very very confident over getting this fight and other huge fights announced very soon.

It will make incredible reading.
A compilation video of every time Eddie has said Conor Benn since the scandal broke would be up there with the great China Donald Trump video

After being bombarded with pro-Benn propaganda from team Benn for so long, it has now gone very quiet. Makes me think an announcement from UKAD is not far away.

Conor Benn no longer finds himself in the WBC welterweight rankings, leaving him off the lists of all four major sanctioning bodies.

Before the July 17 rankings update, Benn was listed as number six with the WBC behind champion Errol Spence Jr, Keith Thurman, Cody Crowley, Yordenis Ugas, Souleymane Cissokho and Mario Barrios. As of writing, he is absent from the top 40 entirely.

I wonder if it’s due to him not having fought in over 12 months and not having any fight confirmed.

The WBC make up rules all of the time (I’m still amazed that Jermall Charlo is champ after over 2 years of inactivity) but there’s no point ranking someone who seemingly isn’t going to fight.

Should never have had the ranking he had anyway. Never fought anyone above central area level

Presumably there’s been a ruling against Benn but it’s perhaps not been published yet.

That's possible but it might be that UKAD, like in the case of a judge alone criminal trial, need some time to write up their finding before delivering it?

I've got a feeling that it will be 2 years, starting 18 months ago

It is likely any penalty will be backdated, but Benn tested positive on July 25th and September 1st.

How could they backdate a penalty 18 months when the first offence only happened 12 months ago?

4 year backdated ban, starting from when he started taking PEDs.... so he is free to fight.

Did anyone ever ask him why he never took a hair follicle test? If it was me, and you’d never touched PEDs in your life, it seems logical that one of the things you’d want to do very publicly. But of course not for Conor it seems! He should have got to it in October last year, and he could have proved - properly proved, not Conor pretend proved - that he hadn’t taken any illegal substances in the previous 3 months.

should be a 2 year ban , backdated till the first test ,, then backdated to the second test a 4 year ban ,, then a 10 year ban from when the 4 year ban finshed , just cos he's a prick

Hard to believe this saga is still without resolution almost a year after Benn's first positive test.

Perhaps the verdict will be delivered on that very anniversary? Could it be a 12 month, backdated ban will be delivered exactly 12 months after the offence, effectively making Benn a free man?

I can hardly think up a more disgraceful ending. But this is boxing, so expect the worst.

WBC prez said Benn was removed due to inactivity.

That ends that then.

Yet he’s got a middleweight champion who hasn’t fought in over 2 years and has nothing lined up.

They make up the rules seemingly as and when they want.

Hopefully it won’t be long before the Benn stuff is resolved either way. I’d be really disappointed if Benn has UKAD’s authority removed so he doesn’t have to serve a ban/have his actual case heard based on a technicality.

It wouldn’t even be too bothered if he gets let off without a ban. Just as long as the case has been properly heard and he’s not getting out of it by a loophole.

Would just like it finished either way now.

I hope he gets a ban. Two years and then he can come back and fight and hopefully get dealt with and we can stop talking about him.

Yeah - that would be my preference too. I’m just bored of it dragging on so much now.
