I'm sure we will find out what was said anyway and whether it was deserved or not l. Just because someone is a top fighter doesn't mean that if you say the wrong thing you should get a good whack.
I agree... But there is a time and place for everything. I guess it just caught me off guard seeing Werdum react in such a manner. But who knows, I probably would have done worse in his position.
It was surprising to see Werdum react that way, makes me even more curious to know what was said.

Caught the fights.
- Travis Browne needs to go off to WSOF or Bellator. Ideally, let him fight Rosholt in WSOF. Him calling time out again made the refs look uneducated about the sport they are supposed to officiate. Reminded me of the Gonzaga/Tuchsherer fight where Tuchcherer was kicked in the groin and the ref had no clue how to respond. Chris even asked the ref what his options were if he couldn't continue and the ref said 'I don't know.'
- Werdum looked gassed early. Either he had no respect for Browne and didn't train, or his age caught up to him. Have him fight Barnett next. Could be a grappling display.
- Gall coming out to "Hey, Mickey" was awesome. Makes Dana look like a tool for vetoing the decision for the song not being "hard" enough. I guess he would rather have the usual faire of four songs on repeat...whereas three of those four are from Eminem. Honestly, Dana...again...just looks like the "just bleed" guy than a sports executive. Any chance we will see him in WSOF soon too? Maybe he can replace Ray Sefo?
- Not sure why Phil Brooks didn't enter as himself. Why in character (introduced as CM Punk and came out to his old WWE entrance music)? The gimmick was strong last night. Plus, why not have Brooks fight a guy he had a chance of beating...like a veteran on the downslide...thinking Phil Barnoni.
- Miocic looked good. Patient and decent striking. He would be a fan match-up with Cain. My gut tells me the one with the bigger gastank will win.

Also, still awaiting to see Phil Brooks' wrestling coach, Ben Askren in the UFC.
Gone are the days of "The best fighters in the world fight in the UFC" when you have 0-0 guys making their debuts without any kind of combat sport training under their belt.
Yes, props to Mr. Brooks for giving it a go and showing just how hard this sport is. But, this is more of a black eye on the UFC (and the Ohio athletic commission) for letting this fight happen.

I agree it was a bit of a joke and CM Punk didn't belong anywhere near the octagon BUT 90% of the best fighters are still in the UFC, and most of the others would be there if they had the opportunity.

Anyone catch TUF last night?
Damacio Page vs. Adam Antolin
Despite the premature stoppage, it was awesome... #13 seed against #4 seed.

I didn't have time to watch TUF last night but I have the episode on my DVR.
I'd prefer you didn't mention the result if possible, but I suspect Page lost. He's never impressed me at all and I thought he was way overseeded at #4. I was able to pick the winners of the first 3 fights correctly, so I guess I'll see if my streak continues.

No prob... Enjoy the fight!
Been a cracking season thus far.
I feel bad for the Alaskan kat from last week. My wife is from the same area as he is, so we were rooting for him. He got taken out like a straight up amateur.

The Alaskan guy seemed likeable but I got the feeling he was overseeded and overmatched. He and Zulu in particular came in as champs of local promotions in regions where the level of MMA is not very high.

Not to be a dick but this is the MMA thread spoilers should be expected as talking about an event is why this thread is here. When I don't want to know the result of something MMA related I don't open this thread(much like I do for other sports forums I go on). Obviously you haven't gotten upset with someone just and acted like a dick in any way just saying that it's best to avoid the thread if you're waiting to watch an event.

I'm actually getting more and more interested in the discipline and contemplating taking it up as a hobby. I'm just outside London and I think Roger Gracie has an academy in london but I could be wrong on that!
Regarding Maia though- I agree. I remember for a decent portion of his ufc career he became a bit too obsessed with becoming a good striker. He almost to some extent neglected what makes him brilliant to focus on striking.
Now he's finally fully focused on using his BJJ but at the same time realised that it's no good being brilliant on the ground if you can't get the fight there. So to combat that flaw he clearly worked a ton o improving his wrestling and his takedowns generally and is now is almost mpossible to defend against.
Aside from his brilliance though he also comes across as a genuinely super nice guy. I hope he does win the belt before he retires.
This is why boxrec needs a like button.

I know. If someone spoils it I'm not gonna get upset or anything. Just stating a preference. If other people wanna talk about the fight, have at it.

What was up with Werdum kicking Browne's coach after the fight? I understand Werdum has outstanding BJJ and all, but the dude seems a real A-hole. Hopefully Cain can get a rematch somewhat soon.
Nah Werdum is an awesome guy from all reports that I've read. Edmund however is a first class ass hat and more people need to take that line with him. From what I saw it was Edmund doing all the talking first and after seeing him on TUF and everything else I've ever seen him on its pretty standard for him to start a fight then get upset when the other guy is willing.
Guy is an awful coach too

Chael Sonnen is now fighting for Bellator. Going to make an appearance on tonight's broadcast.
These guys are really starting to gain some steam.

Finally watched the Page vs. Antolin fight on TUF. Page reminds me a lot of Melvin Guillard. He has power and flash, but he lacks durability and concentration. He just can't put it all together against good opponents.
I am somewhat leaning towards another upset next week, although not for particularly good reasons. I was just shocked as hell they made Sherbatov the #2 seed, because I have never even heard of the guy. Elliott, Pantoja, Ogikubo, and Page were all familiar names, but Sherbatov somehow got the #2 seed and I have zero clue who he is. Also Shelton is somewhat highly ranked on FightMatrix.com which means he must have faced some decent opposition at some point.

Good call on the Page/Antolin fight J.
Yeah, this TUF ranking system is pretty laughable so far. I believe the Alaskan dude was the #8 seed or so. Hard to imagine he would stand a chance against one of their lower ranked seeds like Antolin.

I think the tooth has fallen out with Dana now aswell apparantly lol. They've been friends since they were kids aswell. The tooth does seem rather delusion in his fighting abilities though lol.

The whole Tooth vs Serra thing is hilarious, and if it actually played out as is being reported, the tooth is a fornicating idiot.

Anyone know much about this Paddy Pimblett character? Cage warriors featherweight champion at 21 years old. He seems to be getting quite a bit of hype in different places online.
God an horrendous haircut. Damn.

Record makes him look like a bit of a can-crusher so far, but he's only 21 so he probably has good potential.

Was at his last fight. Finished the opponent very quickly but I've got no idea about the standard of opposition. How big does the jump tend to be from the domestic/European MMA scene to the UFC? Do guys stepping up from these sort of promotions tend to go in as unknowns in terms of their actual ability and potential?

No seen much of him but read that he called out McGregor lol. Suppose that's the kind of thing you've got to do to get noticed, Mickey Gall style.

Yeah he seems like a fun-loving, alright bloke on the show but if what Serra's saying is true, he is definitely deluded and probably quite insecure.

I think it varies pretty wildly. The UFC has so many fighters contracted nowadays that there are several levels of competition even within the promotion. I'm sure there are guys in the UFC that Pimblett could hang with. The MMA scene in the UK is strong enough where you can't be a total scrub and win a title.
