Taxi for Breen !
Something has obviously gone off.
Nobody can blame Breen for the defeat, it was just a weird fight.

What a shame.
I thought Breen and Magee were good for Rogan and that Rogan was good for them. Best of luck to both parties.

I know - its a worrying team. Breen looked like he could get him in shape in the gym and Magee looked like he could get him fired up in the ring. Conflicting reports coming out now.

Martin Rogan has parted company with trainer John Breen, Martin is in training for his rematch with Sam Sexton, who defeated Rogan in May. Rogan is now training at the St John Bosco gym. A disappointed Breen told The Belfast Telegraph that the split has taken him by surprise.
“It came right out of the blue. I came back from holiday and Martin came up to the house and said he didn’t want me to train him,” revealed Breen. “He was training in the St John Bosco gym rather than mine and said he didn’t want me to have to travel up there and give me that pressure. But hand on heart I wish him well and I hope he wins back the Commonwealth title. I thought I did a good job with Martin. Not many would have thought 18 months ago he could have achieved so much when he was struggling to get a fight so it is disappointing it has come to this.”
Breen worked alongside former pro fighter Eamon Magee, the two men guided Rogan to wins over Audley Harrison and Matt Skelton, and Martin looked the likely winner in the Saxton fight prior to his eye-injury defeat.
Sexton will be rubbing his hands together in glee, the build up to this rematch was hit by claims that Sam has been stirring up sectarian ill-will, these claims were found to be unfounded, but they still served to wind Rogan up, there could be fireworks in Belfast come October the 9th.
A real surprise and a very dignified response by Breen.

no ones got close to doing that yet. but its definately going to be a stamina thing.
rogan is solid but dsnt change much whereas sexton is definatly a clever boxer who learns.
the way he won Prizefighter was hugely impressive against 3 different styles.

WHY I'M STANDING BY MY MAN, JOHN BREEN
The reason I have felt it necessary to write this letter is because so many journalists and members of the boxing fraternity have telephoned our home to ask my husband John Breen what has caused the split between himself and Martin Rogan. John being John, a man of few words, refuses to be drawn on the matter. However, I would like to set the record straight.
After all the years of hard work getting Martin Rogan to the level he has attained. Rogan has dumped John. John accepted Rogan's feeble excuses - i.e. "I can't train in your gym because of the fall out with Eamon Magee and its too much to expect you to travel to the John Bosco Gym". which is incidentally less than a mile from Breen's Gym. John wished Rogan good luck, the shook hands and Rogan kissed John on the cheek.
In anger and disgust I pursued the matter, much to the chagrin of John, and telephoned Rogan. I asked him to give me a valid reason and not the petty excuses he had given John as to why he had left his tutelage after all John had done for him, not only on a professional, but also personal level. Rogan responded initially by saying it was nothing to do with me. However, when pressed Rogan told me he had felt for the last year or so that John had brought him as far as he could.
Rogan is like so many boxers that have gone before him. They reach a certain level, become full of their own importance and forget who helped to get them to that level.
It has been widely reported that all Rogan has said on the matter is "I have the highest respect for John Breen, not only as a trainer but as a man" but that doesn't give any reason for the split. His silence is deafening and as John has trained many boxers to world title level, one can only assume that it boils down to a money saving exercise.
Yet again John, being John, wishes Rogan all the best in his career. I am afraid I am not of the same sentiment.
Laura Breen, Belfast.

I recall sitting next to Mrs. Breen at a show in Dublin one time. She is most defininately not a woman of few words
I'm sure she would give Rogan a better argument than Audley did.

To be fair, think that letter is a little harsh on Rogan. I think Rogan is correct, it is a matter for JOHN and MARTIN - they parted on good terms it would seem. John even asked his wife not to interfere, not only did she interfere she also put her own spin on it - with this "self importance" stuff.
Why does a fighter always get criticised for wanting to better himself, if it means a change. Remember the ridicule Amir Khan got... okay so leaving Oliver Harrison might have led to his first defeat - but now look at him!
