smigga you was calling out barker before you moved up you liar :!: & quigley & dodson you done a double barrel insult, your pants must be on fire.
you know you'd be up against it v groves :!: & i dont blame you for not wanting to know as you've got nothing to gain from such a fight.all the best fighters to come out of britain have cemented they are britains best before moving on.i dont think anyone could ever call you a coward that's rubbish.

I honestly think Groves is a prospect and nothing more.Look at his record, lads. He doesnt deserve a title shot yet, nowhere near.Adamu was terrible.I just dont see whats so specal and think its disrespectful to suggest he'd easily beat Smith.Based on what?

Another typical hurllock comment - a put down followed by a half hearted compliment.
Please show me where I've ever called Darren Barker or Quigley or Dodson out....
I was asked if I would like the Barker fight. My response was I'd love it as he was commonwealth champion and I didn't have a title. I did the "double barrel insult" you mention, after hearing them both having a go on the radio. The radio asked me if I had a response and I said that I'd beat them both - Didn't ask or demand a fight with either.
I don't tell lies.... They catch up with you in the end

There is more to a fighter than his record. Look at his skills and how he fights. Look at his all round game. If he fought Smith next, I'd put a lot of money on groves. Groves would be the favourite at the bookmakers. Smith isn't stupid, he knows he would be up against it and thats why he avoids any Groves question like the plague. You can't call Smith a coward, but you can say he is 100% avoiding Groves or any talk of Groves at this point. The reasons are obvious to all.

I don't even know why I reply to you....
I am 100% avoiding talk of
anyone at all that is ranked below me unless I am matched to fight them!
Groves, Degale, Dilks, Quigley, McDermott, Maguire, Mendy.... Do you hear me talk of anyone on here? There's a thread about myself vs McDermott being a possibility, have you seen me comment? NO. Magee - Yes, I comment and answer anything because it is a fight I want. Steiglitz, Sartison, anyone ranked above me I will talk about all day. Mouthy f*ckers that shout the odds after fights and in interviews to get gullible fans into demanding fights don't get my time.
By the way, if you've seen Groves' all round game in his 9 fights then you should sign for Boxing News.
Your head is that far up Groves' arse you can nearly touch Adam Booth's feet

One question.
If you only talk of people ranked above you and not below you, do you expect people ranked above you to even care about you, since you are ranked below them?

Paul Smith is a class guy and damn good fighter, I like Groves too, but to say he would beat Paul, as if its a forgone conclusion is just being silly.
Some ppl like to have ego trips, bashing pro's / former pro's on these forums. Having a difference of opinion is ok, but most of it is totally out of order and blatantly disrespectful.
There other ways of making a point. Insulting and insinuating, a fighter is a coward or is scared, is not one of them.
Good luck Carl in your quest to find a decent opponent. Keep it up, Paul, I remember watching during the Commonwealth Games and a 'lack of bottle or fear' is the absolute last thing anyone can ever acccuse you of. Bomber, as always, thoughtful, insightful posts. You have got alot of fans, too.
I'll deffo keep watching and pulling for you guys, even though I am a londoner, and I know how much you guys like to bash up the cockneys

There other ways of making a point. Insulting and insinuating, a fighter is a coward or is scared, is not one of them.
When you do make respectful posts and make decent points and come out with FACTS it should also be noted they are conveniently forgotten or conveniently overlooked as it seems there is no comeback on those points.
I have been guilty in the past of having shall we call it banter with Smith and some of his supporters - even if you keep to the facts and keep things civil it seems some of them also like to come out with the insults and also like to play dirty - they will state they are only retaliating to out of order comments - yet again you only have to look at this thread to see they are not completely innocent.
I posted this on the other thread - I have re-read the post over and over again - hopefully it contains no insults and hopefully both Smith and his supporters could bring themselves to give a polite reply without the need to use insults themselves.
Spud wrote:Darren McDermott is not really a credible choice when you take a closer look at his losses at British Title level, and you discover those losses happened at Middleweight - is this another sign of the confidence people have in Smith's abilities?
May I remind you it was only a short time ago there were various "rucks" on here regarding the validity to the claims of how good Paul Smith is and whether he will go onto to fight world class opposition.
Then of course there was a question of whether Paul Smith was going to fight Brian Magee for the European title - we subsequently find out that the biggest reason why that fight did not go ahead is because of "options" on Magee which leads me and others to yet again think on how confident both Team Smith and his promoters are concering his abilities.
I fully understand that Paul Smith wants to win the coveted and prestigious Lonsdale Belt - it would be a fantastic achievement if he does that - many people have tried and failed.
For the record and despite my banter on here - I actually think Paul Smith is better than British title level - however I seriously question the true confidence of Smith and his team - Smith comes on here and clearly states he wants a 50/50 split to fight Brian Magee who is the European Title holder - If Smith is so confident of beating Magee and seriously wants to progress he would have given a lot more ground on the money front to have the chance of winning the coveted European Belt - the confidence in Smith's abilities is further questioned when it is claimed his Team want "options" on Magee to fight Smith.
In the various banter on other threads it was claimed that Smith was now ready to progress as he was a more mature fighter etc etc - Paul Smith went professional in April 2003 - this is how the following fighters have progressed:
Amir Khan - went Professional Jul 05 - now a world champion.
David Haye - Dec 02 - now a world champion.
Kell Brook - Sep 04 - Won the Lonsdale Belt - has fought World Eliminator
Paul McCloskey - Mar 05 - European title holder
Kevin Mitchell - Jul 03 - fought for a world title
Darren Barker - Sep 04 - European title holder
Jamie McDonnell - Sep 05 - European title holder
John Murray - Sep 03 - European title holder
Nathan Cleverley - Jul 05 - European title holder
I could go on - if Smith, his promoter and his team are to believed that Smith is really capable of winning further honours - and if we are to be convinced that he really wants to progress then surely - he needs to get a move on - surely he needs to stop asking for European class wages at British Title level (Brian Magee saga) - the Darren McDermott choice is a poor choice the more I think about it.
Despite my banter I truly believe Paul Smith is a very good fighter - but his desire to win that coveted Lonsdale belt is in my view seriously hampering some very good and realistic opportunities to progress further - in addition "demands" concerning wages and options on other fighters are also going to hamper the progression.
I will make a further comment concerning Paul Smith - I will repeat I think he is a very good fighter and to his supporters I ask - if Paul Smith is beyond British class level and if he is capable of holding his own in European or possibly world class level then why oh why on a consistent basis do you guys embroil yourselves in discussions about whether Smith can beat fighters who have yet to come out of their "novice" stage - Groves and Degale - or worst still fighters who have only fought at Middleweight??

I'm surprised Paul Smith has replied to half of the posts on here, some fornicating moronic comments sent his way.
And as for some of the guys on here fighting him? Please....
I agree he should be looking past the likes of McDermott and towards Euro and world honours, but to be honest he's not alone in that, the only difference between him and some of our other British champs is he takes the time to come on here and (try to) converse with boxing 'fans'.
I bet he wonders why he bothers

PS I agree with Spud's last few comments there.
Groves (and DeGale) will be world class when fully developed, but he's not quite there yet.
Smith shouldn't be looking over his shoulder at them - and I don't think he is - they should all be chasing him while he peers into the distance and strives for bigger and better things.

Smigga is a good bloke and is also a very good boxer.
It has often been stated on here that it is brilliant when professionals take the time to come on here to answer the questions and sometimes are brave enough to answer the criticisms.
Whilst I fully appreciate peoples comments on here concerning the over zealous remarks towards boxers and people within boxing - I also find it quite distastful how people on here and within boxing make it oh so convenient to say posters on here are out of order for making criticisms, even when they are politely and constructively put - they are also ignored when written like that too!!!
My spats with Smith's supporters all started with me merely stating that I thought he would end up no further than a domestic class boxer - all hell broke loose and whilst I was completely out of order for rising to the insults by coming back with my own - what is so wrong and so out of order with stating a boxer is not going further than domestic class.
For the record - I actually think Smith could have given Magee a superb fight - it would have been a bloody brilliant one and I just think Smith has dropped a big b*llock by not taking it due to what is in my view unreasonable demands placed on Magee. I knew at an early stage that Magee/Smith was in discussions and I also knew the biggest stumbling block was "options" - I also had the balls to completely disagree with a member of Team Magee who were willing to compromise on the money issue which I did not think he should do so as the European Champion - options was never ever going to be realistic and if Team Smith were so confident of a victory they should have compromised on that issue.
But back to criticisms of boxers and personalities in boxing - it is they who use the "card" of us being out of order the moment they read something they do not like.

Smith has won and defended the British belt in 2 brutal fights where he showed more than enough bottle, grit, determination and boxing ability.
Groves has had 9 fights.
Miles apart.
