Wow.
This thread predates my time here.
I know of Meldric, only through the Charvez fights though.
What a book!
I'm never going to read it, Orb's reprints mess with my head!
It's like my grasp of English dwindles the more I read. Scary sh*t.

Almost impossible to find these days. My copy is a sealed vault. Orb, did you ever sell yours?
If Meldrick wanted to make some money from this book, he should release one of those desk calendars that has a quote on it for each day of the year. Even ignoring the salacious stuff, there are easily 365 gems in it.
Does anyone know how he is doing, health-wise? I hope he is better than he was a few years back, as mentioned earlier in this thread.

You know what, I re-read the thread last night after it came up on the other thread about the Doughty book.
It's over ten years old! I kept saying in the thread that I'd found the book again, I don't keep it with my other boxing books, it seems to levitate around the house and I keep unearthing it periodically, picking it up and then putting it down again. I just can't face reading it further, it's like chewing an elastic band.
I hope he's doing ok, I genuinely do. His life story makes for interesting reading, there is a good book or film in there for sure. It even has a great title!

There's an interview with Taylor on YouTube from 2013 and he sounded punch drunk. Then he was arrested in 2019 for aggravated assault after an armed standoff with police. It doesn't sound promising.

The orgy scene alone would be a big selling point.
I’m not sure they could get the budget to cover the Black Jesus space wars.

CGI mate, it could be epic.
I mean they made a film of Mickey Ward's life (to a point) which, no disrespect to him, was fairly dull outside the fights.
They did one about Paz.
Someone should at least do a proper docu, even if it's just a HBO style one. I know they did a legendary nights one of the Chavez fight. His life has a clear 3 part trajectory, it's got drama and all sorts.

Looking back at the thread the damage he’s had is incredible. While still fairly young he literally couldn’t speak. Tragic.

I can’t remember who said it but the doctor at the ER room after the fight didn’t know who he was and assumed from his injuries he’d been in a car crash. It was that bad.

It's a funny one, Taylor was winning the fight hands down but hadnt put even a small dent in Chavez whereas he himself was beat up.
However one judge had Chavez up after 11 rounds.... And we complain about IJL!

Makes one realise how much of themselves some fighters leave in the ring…

I've not lived healthy, at all, and I'm in a lot better nick than Meldrick. As for coco's comment, regarding the Chavez fight, I've had loads of people thinking I'm mad watching a fight saying "he's losing but winning". I cant even explain it myself.
