I don't dislike the po-po in general, they're still people, not my kind of people, but people nonetheless. You're always going to get a fair amount of closeted nazi types flocking towards roles of authority, whether it be army, police or security. I'd like to think the good outweigh the bad by a decent margin (as has been mentioned), either way, it's not as though civility would or could survive without them (again, mentioned already).
A legislator or lawyer on the other hand... I'd forgive all but the very worst kind of ex-con.
As for illicit drugs, legalisation and all that malarky, why not? At least as far as cannabis is concerned. There's far too much bullshit propoganda and numpty logic at work where that plant's concerned. It's a shameful state of affairs when the US could arguably be considered more liberal in it's legislation than us.
The majority of ills associated with it are simply scapegoated because it's a soft target.
