True, he's human and he makes mistakes like anybody else but he has to go. It's enough already.

Pathetic stoppage, i also had 1st round McKenzie and Enzo points, I was getting fairly hopeful of the Enzo points thing.

He DID get his head rocked by some of those shots and who knows what would have happened in the next few shots or minutes, you never know with Enzo, but that's the idea of boxing. Worst stoppage ever? Gota be in the top 10!

Obviously happy to have collected on my under 7.5 rounds bet but that was an utterly ridiculous stoppage. I do think Ovill would probably have got to Enzo a couple of rounds or so later as Enzo looked like a rabbit in the headlights but that was one of the worst stoppages I've ever seen.

It is nice to be on the right end of a controversial decision in boxing though as I've been on the wrong end of quite a few in the past. Good that they are going to give Enzo a rematch but he'll definitely get stopped in it.

I bet Ian John Lewis never thought he'd trend on Twitter.

All betting aside, we've just been robbed of seeing what could have potentially been a very memorable domestic showdown.

A tad harsh considering the death penalty has been abolished in the UK.

A dry bum raping might be a just punishment.
Dion Dublin step forward please!

What a balls up. He was as shocked as anyone when he realised what he'd done. Panicked, then froze....you cant really trust someone to do a decent job after such a massive lapse in judgement.

Has to be one of the worst early stopages of all time.

Agreed and in the grand scheme of things a Commonwealth Light Heavyweight title fight in front of a few hundred people at the Liverpool Olympia isn't exactly the most pressurised of situations.

he should have pretended the ropes were holding enzo up and administered a count, that was his get out of jail card...did not even have the sense to do that!!......... prick

Leaving emotions out of it, he is simply too erratic in his approach.

Shannon Briggs was beaten into an intensive care bed following IJL's passive attitude in the Vitali fight.

He needs to go - because he quite clearly knew he'd read it wrong, yet still gave the 'concerned' look to Enzo and stuck with his choice.

"Poor Enzo, and poor Ian John Lewis, outstanding referee, one of the best and I think he knew straight away he jumped the gun," Ricky Hatton said on Twitter.
Is Hatton joking? IJL isn't doing the Hatton fight is he?

IJL could of still let it go on, ive seen it happen before in a british ring. The ref jumps in changes his mind then lets it carry on when he sees hes made a mistake

McCloskey v Corley he did something very similar.

I agree there was still room for him to change his mind, everyone wanted the fight to go on, he could still have given a count and used the rope excuse. Anything but just stop it so embarassingly. Deary me.

I guess the one thing you want from a ref in any sport is calmness under pressure, IJL is usually far too keen to get involved, he has an 'itchy trigger finger' if you like. Get rid, please, or I might start going to fights he refs and barrack him, maybe even make a poster.

I'm not sure what the exact rule is but he hadn't actually waived the fight off at the point he seemed to realise Enzo was ok so surely he could have allowed him to continue on the grounds that he was just taking a close look at Enzo before deciding what to do.

So Enzo gets a rematch after another 'controversial' result!???.... nice way to get a double payday for all concerned... am I the only one who smells something a bit fishy here??.

Yes! It was just an appalling piece of refereeing that's all.

The refereeing decision apart, Enzo looked so fragile in there. He'd had an ok 1st round but the look on his face as his trainer was giving him instructions for the 2nd round said it all for me. He looked utterly petrified. I really like Enzo, was a very decent boxer in his prime and seems a great guy but physically and mentally the guy is gone at the game. He's gonna end up getting seriously hurt if he continues. He needs to think of his wife and kids. Obviously he hasn't made anywhere near enough money to live in luxury but surely there are other ways for him to earn a decent wedge than this.
