Its either that or I reckon you're one of his brothers.
Neither. GOmez is his real name though. He's been name checked in Boxing Monthly and runs his own website...columbo wrote:Its either that or I reckon you're one of his brothers.

I don't think carl will be contemplating defeat though.squared circle wrote:Take your point mate, but disagree because next time froch loses now then I reckon he will retire.Andypittcov wrote:I don't see froch sliding physically any time soon but I'll be surprised if he's as up for this one as he was for Kessler, that's another reason why I fancy groves.
Personally I think he might have thought even if he lost to Kessler again, or even to ward again possibly, he still had the option of a final pay day in defeat to take on either groves or degale.
That option is gone now he is facing groves so soon. If Froch loses i cant see any other option. I'm sure there is a rematch clause, but unless it was a paper thin or disputed loss then cant see him taking that and then risking his legacy a touch by ending in double defeat to a relative "novice" he'd alresdy said was level below him.
So, if anything i see him being equally as motivated as least
I think I read that but can't remember whether Gomez is a geek or a freak?Dead Mouse wrote:Aye, GOmez was one of the star performers in an article I did for BM about boxing and the Internet: Geeks, Freaks and Tweets.mickey1975 wrote:Neither. We should start a poll - G0mez "cool or a complete tool? "Dead Mouse wrote:A chic freak.palooka wrote: I think I read that but can't remember whether Gomez is a geek or a freak?
palooka wrote:Sparring is sparring though columbo though I take your point; if Groves was there as a sparring partner then he's not there to do any damage himself and the paying fighter can take advantage; 'd have thought there are lots of boxers who have had a beating in sparring and it's been different when they face off for real.columbo wrote:The fact Froch dropped Groves whilst they were wearing headgear and 20oz gloves doesnt look for Groves's chances in this fight though.palooka wrote:Froch is a model professional and I doubt that either he or McCracken will allow any complacency to set in, no matter how the sparring with Groves went; I can imagine a fit and focused Froch facing a very well drilled and motivated Groves; it'll be a good bout and my money is on Groves.
I have to agree with that. IMO Groves is not ready for the level Froch is at. Fair play to Carl for giving Groves the opportunity to fight him. Groves may be the young man comming up but I believe Carl is still in his prime and his experiance will win him through. Ward is probably the only man capable of beating froch IMO. Can't see it being anywhere near, think you're underrating Groves and overrating Froch massively, this is #2 vs #7 worldwide and #1 vs #2 domestically, yes it would be an upset, but not one of biblical proportions like this is being made out to be.squared circle wrote:The only way George wins is if froch suddenly gets old in the ring, and I cannot envisage it.
If groves were to win where would it rank in all-british fights and/or world titles upsets. It would have to be up there
Carl Froch hasn't and never will be elite level, world level yes, elitel level, no. Elite level is Mayweather, Ward, Marquez, Rigondeaux, Pacquaio, Martinez, Donaire, etc. Not Carl Froch.squared circle wrote:Except for his payday against mack, Froch has his near unparalled last 8 fights or so against top 5 (or top 10 at very worst), home and way. He is the very definition of fighting at elite level.
Groves has a paper-thin decision against another current fringe top ten fighter who he fought when neither were anywhere near world level, some respectable domestic scalps, and a shut out victory over a former world level opponent who barely threw a shot and whose ambition matched that of a sparring partner. He has a couple oher "names" on his record but they are either never weres or never going to bes.
I like both fighters, but will be pretty shocked and impressed if groves is to win. Either we have massively underrated him and he comes out and makes carl look a bit silly with his skills. Much more likely is a bute type outcome where we realise groves is in deeper than he thought and mid-round stoppage, probably booth throwing towel in.

Elite level is the very top of the tree, Froch has boxed the best men in his division and has lost twice - he obviously beat Kessler in the rematch but Ward is on a different level; though Froch is a jump in class for Groves it is not a huge leap, Carl is not a master boxer - if George were to face Ward or Hopkins (at light heavy) he'd have no chance as they have too many tricks/skills and ways of boxing. Froch is very good at everything and excellent at some but can be worked out and timed. Froch is a top world champion but can be beat.columbo wrote:He said he's been fighting at elite level.expe wrote:Carl Froch hasn't and never will be elite level, world level yes, elitel level, no. Carl tends to use 18oz Rivals for the record.the truth wrote:
Just a side note not many pros spar using 20 oz gloves ! There usually 14 or 16
