Well said mate. British boxing will not be the same without him. Dean helped so many people within the industry and did not publicise the good work he did behind the scenes, including charitable work. A very humble guy. I'm totally gutted but I can not imagine how you are feeling right now because I know how close you two were. Remember the good times.

If you think about it he,s probably appeared on more TV boxing shows than anybody,if theres a show live on UK TV,you could pretty much guarantee he would make a fleeting appearance at some stage on the night

Agree, he worked hard outside the public eye and on many interviews I've seen him on he looked tired sometimes, but still looked in love with what he done ! Life is so strange

Shocking news, RIP Dean Powell.

Always seen him in fighters corners over the years but never really heard him speaking, he was just a face i knew. Then i saw him being interviewed on Bunceys show and he seemed a genuinely sound, easy going fella who was hugely passionate about what he did. Won't be the same not seeing him in the corner.

Not often is there a thread 7 pages long which I read from start to finish but I suppose there is a first for everything.

Never met the guy or never knew anything about him on a personal level but definitely a loss to british boxing. He was basically a face you were just used to seeing at shows, even more so because he was so distinctive! I was often surprised just how many show's I seen him at. The man must have been a working machine which just demonstrates his love and enthusiasm for his job.

Im sure there will be a lot of people in boxing aswell as within his family effected by his passing.

Rest in peace, Dean, and thank you for everything you've done for boxing and the people in it.

Dean was a great guy who supported myself and my fighters, he worked extremley hard for all people he was involved with,without people realising so.

Dean was in the corner when Ryan beat Jamie Moore in that European epic.
Until then whenever our paths crossed it was never easy because there was always a dispute of some sort and we were always on diffent sides of the fence.
That night was the first and only time we were in the same team so to speak and it was the only time I'd seen him with his guard down in the dressing room afterwards.
He was truly made up for Ryan and knew that he'd played a small role in a classic all British affair. In fact its fair to say I think he shed a tear. I'll focus on that memory and forget about the disagreements.

I remember my own run ins with you (and what I thought too ), all stopped when were in contact and I realised you were a top bloke whose opinion doesn't always match mine!

I think that goes for a lot of people on here, might not always get on but at the end of the day, we've all got something in common. The irony is that its the common passion that divides and unites us. Thank God for you all, and of course Dean.

I don't think Dean was really himself on camera in interviews. He was perhaps too aware of what he was saying and didn't want to upset anyone. In the corner he was great - clear, insightful and forceful. He knew when he was needed and when he wasn't. Very much in the Dennie Mancini mould. Although if you watched him in that role you'd still not really see the way he was in person.

Dean had a stressful job but he could laugh about it. He had a warm smile and when he asked you about your family he wanted to hear the answer.

He was actually one of the most sociable people I've ever met. Considering that every day he'd have to make and take so, so many calls, he'd just talk and talk away. There would always be a joke, an anecdote, an excuse to laugh. 'It's easier getting an audience with the pope than getting hold of you!'

When I look back to starting work with Frank Maloney more than 20 years ago I can't believe that he was just in his mid 20's with so much authority, knowledge and responsibility. I still have a bound leather address book on my desk that he gave me back in 1994, with a lovely inscription.

Over the years I found out about many good deeds and kind acts that he'd done behind the scenes. Favours that no one was ever supposed to hear about and couldn't be repaid.

Dean always has a kind heart and a great spirit inside him..

So many thought very well of Dean and rightly so and Dean did so much for a lot of people,
me included

I am 1 of many exfighters and fighters that Dean helped in our careers,
he looked after me for my first pro fight and his advise, helped to calm my nerves.
without his help and knowledge, we would have struggled on our way up..
He looked after me many times, after my career.

I will aways remember Deans greetings and farewells, he would alway say God bless you,

9 out of 10 calls I had from or with Dean involved some sort of dispute, usually about something I, a BoxRec writer or BoxRec forum poster had written. But, as Ed says, he was a very thoughtful bloke.

A few years ago, an old school writer I worked with was in a home, seeing out his last days with a painful illness. Dean called me. Now, when someone like me sees Dean's name come up on your phone, you get ready to defend yourself.

Not on this occasion. Dean had heard about my former colleague's situation. He didn't know the chap, but offered to send him a load of his videos and magazines to keep him occupied.

Having gone head-to-head with him for a long time, I was genuinely taken aback by the unexpected generosity. Dean didn't know the bloke and certainly had no reason to help me out, even by association. It was a thoughtful, selfless gesture and, despite the differences we had, it's the one thing I'll remember him for.

Dean used to always let on to me at shows and say hello, i remember i heard he was great at wrapping then watched him wrap Joe selkirks hands who I think had said he never wanted anyone else to wrap them and it was like watching "The Heavyweight Champion" of wrapping so quick smooth and professional took him minutes to do obviously done a 1000 times!!

I remember he rang me a while ago after work asking what fighters I have now and asked me how I felt now I stopped boxing and if I was coping well with walking away, we spent 30 mins talking boxing and he was very interesting as well as interested as I can talk boxing
