Saltire should have been asking for feedback, I like colin bellshaw and Iain wilsons plans for scottish boxing, just think made a bit of a hash of it and didn't live to the expectation I had, caird hall is such a nice venue, tue staff are superb and all you ask of a venue, the bar was very good and decent service just believe we should be filling it more, either start of the month or end of the month as in this day not to many on weekly wages, promotion is key, tie in with tay fm, involve the two football clubs, for say offer a reduction in ticket prices for football club season tickets, (ice hockey team does this to huge success) any kind of use of filling a seat is better than an empty seat. Gotta involve the media, possibly interviews and articles such as 20 questions and findin out about out fighters and the promotors. Set up a ring in the shopping centre and try and inspire youngsters who in truth all will be attracted to the ring. So many ideas and not all costly, the shopping centres would jump at the chance for this and saltire have big names like simpson , harrison who could be brought in to boost it, dundee can be a great area but we need new promotion techniques, I hope these guys can provide it :)
So negative Jamie, the week in the run up to the show you were spouting off about opponents it actually read like you were trying to putt folk off, maybe your not aware of how it reads but that is how it came across.
Now your slating Colin and Iain about the show, like most things, these take time and im sure they are aware of how it went ££££ wise and will know what to do next time... and if i lived in Dundee i would be grateful there are promoters who are interested in putting a show on ... of course i dont expect you to agree with me, and no doubt you will say "You tell it like it is" which your entitled to, but i just you are very negative. :TU:
In fairness what you may take there as negatives if I was Saltire I would take as positives. Your quite active in marketing for prospect shows and will have better ideas of how things work in your local area Dundee is a different beast to any major city in Scotland. I used to run the Sales and Marketing team of a large promotions company based in Dundee and most of our bigger money works was in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Boxing in Aberdeen and Glasgow have a big following its a new thing in Dundee. People don't spend big money on nights out they look for value for money. 90% of boxing shows are not value for money and we all know the reasons for that. What you need to build is hype. You need good high quality fights with the risk of the home fighter losing. People like going to fights that they don't know the outcome before they show up. Get the crowd involved if you have a title national anthems. I know Dundee has got huge potential. There is ways to get media partners without any outlays. I had a deal running with Radio Tay in Dundee which was a full advertising package presenter announcements for a small percentage of ticket sales commission. Jamie is right something like 10% off if you are a season ticket holder with Dundee FC or Dundee Utd.. The clubs would love that kind of advertising and would work with the promoter. Between both clubs there is around 10,000 fans. 10% taking up that offer is 1000 more fans to the fight. The biggest one I think is getting local pubs on board to sell tickets. Busy shops have outlets for the average Joe to get tickets not just the fighters. Who really cares how many tickets Ronnie, Mikey or Jamie sell if the venue is full.. Also one more thing people in Dundee are fly will make you think like they are doing you a favour but making a massive profit themselves always get quotes from different companies. Use local because that's how you boost the show

Sorry mate, while i will give Dundee credit for being a Yes City :TU: the people of Dundee are no different in what they do or look for in a night out or do on a saturday is no different from folk in Glasgow, Edinburgh and other scottish citys

Do people on here genuinely think announcing knock over opponent's the week of the fight is acceptable?

This show was planned for months,I'm sure the ticket prices were announced pronto yet opponents were the last on the agenda

As a Dundee lad I just feel it was Ronnie's homecoming, he'd just lost narrowly to a good unbeaten fighter in Evans which was partly shown on TV, I think he deserved a decent test to capitalise on the publicity he was getting, get back on the horse as they say,Ronnie Clark's a great opponent/opportunity for Chris Adaway but it wasn't Chris's home show,Ronnie's served his apprenticeship, luckily for him he got to do it topping the bill in big shows in his home city

With Dundee being the city it is and without having much clout in the boxing world in Britain then Ronnie doesnt have the luxury to sit and build up a padded career,he's already shown what kind of boxer he is,he wants tests and he's not arsed about being the away fighter or the underdog but his handlers are doing him a disservice IMO by not backing their man and putting their money where their mouth is

If he's good enough to fight Evans,Walsh,James and Hughes OUTSIDE Dundee and prove he can hang with them and even maybe have beat them then surely Saltire have got to decide if their serious about getting him to the next level and get him more exposure then maybe let him fight a live opponent at HOME where in a 50/50 fight his fans can pull him over the line,

To me it looks like they may be using him to make a quick easy buck and unfortunately for Ronnie being the trailblazer for Dundee boxing, its gonna be all the other lads who might enjoy the fruits of his labour after he's seen better days

If I were a promoter and only 500 turned up I simply wouldn't bother, after all it's the promoter that suffers any shortfall boxers, medical staff ect all still need paying

Billy they're would have been a lot more fans there if they actually knew about it,not a single person mentioned this show to me until after it, also if they had an opponent who was announced, casual fans want to see the "bad guy" ,something like an ad in the local paper with both fighters on the poster, give the fight an actual "fight" feel, casual fans lap all that up,you would be lucky if 50 fans there knew who Ronnie was fighting right up until they were both in the ring

If the promoters have took a hit then its their own doing,no point being a promoter and not promoting your show and hoping the local fighters will sell all your tickets, the numbers were relatively good considering but if Saltire were willing to put that extra bit of work in then it would have been a success

My Mrs hates boxing but I've told her a fighter from Dundee is fighting on Sky in a few weeks, now she's interested,if Ronnie had got put in with say a former champ, then a casual fan won't care what title they've held, but if you were to say "Ronnie fighting someone whose been on TV". The casuals get interested cause they think its big time

That's the mindset of someone who's not your usual punter who buys their ticket

Handsofstone great comment!!

Billy surely your not that fickle. They made a profit I can guarantee that. With 500 a decent small profit with the 700 they say then a very good profit. It's hard to tell numbers in the Caird Hall it is a big venue. There wasn't as many in the balcony but more on the floor. They didn't really do anything and I don't mean that bad but there was no effort to promote this.

As for Alba trust me Dundee is very different. We are a very weird breed up here most Dundonians would admit that.

I don't work in nursing home David, different care sector altogether.
Think Ally needs a challenge going by the spar that wouldn't happen :bag: :bag: :box: :box: BOOM!!

Tut Tut Billy heard Ally Blacks chosen to leave you after only several weeks, the long list continues..ive heard theyve got odds in the local bookies

Jon Slowey 2/1

Daniel do at least get your facts correct, Ally couldn't commit enough time for my liking for the gym turning up 3days a week max, simply not good enough.
I understand he's got Job but so have I, I explained to him it wasn't working for me and advised him to get a new coach, I also explained the situation to his manager who totally understood
I wish ally nothing but good luck as he's Funny guy and a top lad :TU:

If he wants to work it then let him,I don't see why he's avoiding answering the question (according to a previous poster) it's ashame cause I think his fighter could have a bright future ahead of him (if you seen him you would 7ndwrstand) and In my opinion only bbboc licencensed shows would give him that route as Im opposed to the obscure malta shows

Mike needs to be getting fights now, his style of energy and pressure they need to do it while he's young and fresh, 1st round blowouts are doing him no good against guys who shouldn't be in there, he needs to go down the proper route and stick, seen photos of the weigh in and looks like he's hit the welter limit, lost a bit of weight and looks good for it, People calling for Matty Mcallister but truth is if that's gonna happen
It will be in Aberdeen, Matty is huge up there,
