Well I enjoyed it to be fair, credit has to go to Dale Evans and Jason Welborn for making it a more competitive card than people expected.

Thought Welborn fought out of his skin even with everything stacked against him (dodgy quick ending to the 9th round, the ref etc). Can't argue with the result, not watched the Sky coverage yet but my guess is he never got the credit he deserved and they spent more time talking about Macklin??

As far as Macklin goes though while I like Welborn and thought he performed well he's a area title level type fighter. If Macklin can't look convincing (let alone get him out of there) against someone like him its absolute nonsense to be talking world titles.

Eggington came through an earlier scare (he did well to get up from that shot and didnt really look in trouble from it) to dominate Evans for the most part. Think people maybe being a bit too critical of Eggington for not getting him out of there. Dale was tough as they come. People forget Sam's only just 22 he just defended his titles (convincingly) against a decent domestic level opponent who put it all out there. At 22 I'd still say thats pretty damn impressive! Seems like the plan is for a bit of a rest now for Sam, sensible in my opinion hes had 4 good championship fights this calender year.

Again props to Jason Cunningham he was tough too but thought with all the hype Kal should be finishing fights like that.

Shot of the night gotta go to Karl Wiggins KO'ing Rob Hunt in the 2nd have to admit didn't see that coming.

Hunt's always been a bit vulnerable especially early-doors, overhand right by any chance?

No surprise really Matchroom clique

Japanese boxing media made a reference to Yafai's comments RE Kono, apparently Yafai and Jimenez both called Kono out. Kono's said he wants to go on the road for his next defense, but it does seem that he's angling for Rex Tso in Macau. Jimenez does seem opening to travel if Kono wants a home coming.

Interesting time at 115lbs and maybe Yafai should be looking to get himself into a mandatory position whilst the cards fit into place. Looks like Gonzalez is heading there in the next 12 months, the IBF have an eliminator set, the WBO title looks to be tied up (Inoue Vs Parrenas then Inoue Vs Narvaez-rumorued to be in the US), the WBC is tied up with Cuadras Vs Eto, winner to face Srisaket). The WBA is the only one open right now, might as well get fast car to make a serious offer or wait for the division to sort it's self out whilst Kal sits on the outside.
