I agree with Carl Froch. That's not top pound for pound boxing.

The low blows from Ward were for real no doubt about it.
Did it play a significant part in the outcome ? No

You just need to look at the first 3-4 rounds to see what Kovalev was doing wrong it was obvious I thought.
There was a point when Kovalev threw a jab which may have landed on the beltline or below ... it was close.
Ward reacted with wild swings behind the head.
Reminded me of the Edwin Rodriguez fight when it looked like Ward was just responding to fouls with fouls, he didn't initiate them.

He did initiate them. Kovalev should've low blowed him back. He didn't, and he lost.

It was six of one and half dozen of the other for awhile, they were both doing niggling things.
Kovalev wasn't exactly squeaky clean.

I think I could point to at least 6-8 big moments that swung the fight in favour of Ward easily.

I'll bet 5 of them would be low blows.

Good one that I did give you the opening

No it's not that.

For the record when he hurt Kovalev in the 8th I knew Kovalev wasn't gonna turn it around, and was on his way to another loss. I didn't think he was gonna stop him with low blows, but I did think he was gonna maintain control and earn a legitimate UD this time. Too bad he didn't get the chance. There'd be a lot less controversy about the result if he'd come by it legitimately, which I believe he was well on his way to doing. Tony Weeks robbed Ward of his chance at a clear victory as much as he robbed Kovalev of his expectation for a clean fight.

That flush left hook, the jabs and the body shots from Ward were superb.
The stumbling, the lethargic lunges and mistiming from Kovalev were noticeable.

It is so funny to hear that Ward didn't initiate dirty fighting. He has been initiating it since Kessler if not earlier.

He hurt Kovalev before the 8th, because it wasn't head jolting or blood splattering blow doesn't mean it wasn't effective, you gotta look closer.
The rest of it I find hard to believe due to Kovalev the man and how he was performing, he looked ragged at times.

He was winning the rounds prior to the 8th, but I didn't see him hurt Kovalev at any point in a noticeable way prior to that. I did think he'd won rounds 5 thru 7 though so the momentum was clearly in his favor.

Any good shot is effective, and like you I'm able to pick up on somebody being hurt even if it's not always obvious to most. I never saw Kovalev hurt prior to the 8th, but I did see Kovalev starting to lunge awkwardly and start unraveling mentally a bit. I don't think Kovalev normally has stamina issues, but he's definitely troubled by Ward's in-fighting...based on that I think Beterbiev would be bad news for him.

You know that's bollocks because when a boxer lands a quality body shot on an opponent early in the fight.
It doesn't necessarily yield results immediately, some do but most don't that's not the purpose for the most part.

No doubt about that. Breaking down your opponent with body shots is usually an "over the long haul" kinda thing. It rarely happens quickly. Ward definitely did effective body work in the fight, it just wasn't all legal.

I don't think Ward or Kovalev would go life and death with Ahumada or Fourie.Tiger, Cotton and Hank are very good wins, not a whole lot historical after that. But yeah, trolling.
You know what you were doing. :OhYes: "Insanely overrated." You were fishing for a reaction from me. Don't take a cliché term so personally.

Foster is the first one I think of because he is the first LHW who I watched. He was a beautiful and extremely dangerous fighter. He was a damned good boxer and his power makes Krushedner's pale. He had a killer instinct similar to The Hitman and Hitman Jr.

Your Ahumada reference is totally divisive since I am certain that you are aware that it was his 14th or 15th defense, he was well past prime for those days and he essentially retired after that fight to return a year later for a final run in his late 30's. Foster destroyed his peers of the time. He wiped out what was placed in front of him.

Times were different. There were no SMW or Cruiser divisions. Bob Foster was an absolute demolision man at LHW. He deserves the moniker of Krusher far more than the current version.

that he is the only man ever to
earn this honour with a low blow.

now you can evaluate that fact
in whatever way you want, it is
still a ... fact.

..I will start thinking about Ward's rankings once he stops fighting within the jurisdiction of Nevada und Co. state commissions, grows a pair of balls, travels to Europe/Asia and fights a local boxer protected by a local referee and 3 local judges. He might be surprised to find out that the referee might not appreciate his dirty tactics and rightfully so..

I don't think the ref last night in Brisbane would have had any trouble with SOGgy's methods. :shame:
