Tyson Fury after failed negotiations with Oleksandr Usyk, Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz is set to take on former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in a novelty match-up in October 2022.

It would be, in effect, the first time since Muhammad Ali vs Antonio Inoki in 1976 that a reigning heavyweight boxing champion took on a champion from another combat sport. Technically speaking Ngannou is the lineal UFC champion, as he never lost it in the cage. Arum promoted Ali-Inoki and is once again promoting a similar "War of the Worlds" clash.

The tone of the general public on this fight is seemingly luke warm at best. Most fans are holding Fury responsible for negotiations falling through with Usyk, and feel that Fury is avoiding Usyk.

However, since Fury has struck a deal with a rival promotion in Saudi Arabia where Usyk has his own deals, it seems likely that this gimmick match is the precursor to undisputed. It must also be noted for the sake of historical accuracy that Anthony Joshua & Eddie Hearn as well as Deontay Wilder pursued fights with Francis Ngannou too.

Fury wins a split decision over 10 rounds over the debuting Ngannou. Despite much talk that Fury trained several months for the fight, taking Ngannou seriously, etc in the months following the match members of team Fury admitted little training was done. Fury was dropped in round three, but essentially won virtually every round with his jabs. Ngannou would later fight Anthony Joshua and be stopped in 2 rounds, which somewhat shows team Fury was correct that Tyson Fury did not take the bout seriously.

Many people went into Fury-Usyk thinking Fury was essentially washed up, had no legs, etc but for essentially the first 7 rounds it was either all Fury or even rounds. In round 8 the tide turned with Fury getting his nose busted and in round 9 was given a standing 8 count after a barrage from Usyk. For the first time since the amateurs (David Price) Fury lost a fight by 12 round split decision. Usyk later commented that Fury was the hardest opponent in his career. Fury later said that Usyk was "too easy," and that easiness took his eye off the seriousness of the fight which ultimately cost him.

Jesus Christ Almighty God bless you all

- Well, Francis was a genuine African who also, ahem, didn't know how to lose, but lose he did in spite of BTFK out of Flubber.

Moral of the story: If you gonna BTFO outta Flubber, make sure you're a politically correct Ukrainian if you want the win... :TU:

At least Francis made a career paycheck which ain't shabby in the greater scope.
