Yeah my perception was that Honeygan was a marking time defence for Curry while they worked out his path up through Light-Middle and to an anticipated clash with Hagler at some point (as this was before Hagler lost to Leonard).
I think Hagler & Curry were largely seen as P4P 1 & 2 at the time, Lloyd upset that big time.

I didn't used to mind him years ago when he first appeared on the Contender and a while afterwards but he turned in to a huge bell end

They were hardly sacrificial. Smith wanted to test himself against the best P4P in the world, in an excellent fight on paper, and get the kind of money that will set up his family for life.
Campbell wanted to win a world title (albeit this was for an interim) and test himself against an untested up and comer. Fair play to him.
I’d much rather see these kind of fights than see Callum Smith fight N’dam or John Ryder. They’ve taken risky fights, they haven’t been successful but can come again.
It’s not like Welborn being thrown in with Hurd or other similar fights where the Brits have next to no chance.

Your not a sacrificial lamb if your getting well paid!
And I'd much prefer our boys fight at top level than wait around for a vacant title.
If your British champ or more and an opportunity comes it should be grabbed.

Theres been lots of undeserving title shots or nearly title shots (Purdy vs Alexander anyway) but the last 6 months or so has been pretty poor for world class boxing from the UK with Smith, Campbell, Whyte and Chisora all having to regroup following pretty emphatic losses (on way or another)

Yep. Poor cards but not I only had Campbell winning 2 rounds. That doesn’t mean Campbell had no chance though.
