There's absolutely nothing to worry about. Apparently Joshua was doing brilliantly until he got reckless and Ruiz landed a lucky punch. Nothing to see here. Just a fluke win.

Did the odds on Ruiz shorten significantly in the hours before the fight?

Nohing strange about it. The exact same thing happened to me once in sparring. Took a shot to the side of the head and I was conscious but uncociuous so to speak from severe concussion. Still did a few more rounds sparring and was then made to do pad work....what do I recall, absolutely nothing, vaguely remember driving to the gym. Parts of it was filmed and that was surreal seeing myself in a place and situation I dont recall.

My coach said afterwards I was asking where I was, what was I doing, he freaked out and took me to one side telling me to sort myself out. This was what he told me after the event.

It really frightened me, seeing footage of me in a place I have no recollection.

I next remember having a cat scan and then went home and slept almost non stop for 3 days. Never felt so tired.

Joshua got hit by a punch in a very sensitive area, he was essentially out of it. If this hadn't happened then he would have got the routine win. Not sure why nobody is aware of this and why people are having a go at him.

Because of this injury/concussion I quit boxing.

not the first time in history established champ takes sub fighter too lightly both mentally and in prep, Sub fighter pumped for opportunity has performance of lifetime and springs up set.

Boxing history is littered with such examples.

What will be telling is what happens next. And this is the acid test. Could be AJ learns from this and comes back bigger better more focussed beats Ruiz and goes onto better things like Fury and Wilder goes down as an ATG.

Could be he just don't have the minerals anymore and fades away but remembered as a decent enough champ and what could have been.

We can debate it til we are blue in the face, the caveats, the conspiracy theories, and I know we love to do so, but basically time will tell us how AJs eventual legacy pans out

I heard he put several million down on himself to lose in the 7th.

Apparently he plans to use the money to have a sculpture of himself carved into the moon, big enough for us all to see every night.

His marketing manager said it isn't enough being global, he has to expand his reach into the solar system.

Someone of AJs stature & popularity was always going to get many people speculating “whats happened” & “whats wrong” after the defeat.

Despite AJ’s extremely admirable & humble statement to the contrary ... I still think something is NOT adding up ??

If AJs answer is to be believed that it was simple as “I got beaten by the better man” ... then why oh why take the rematch so quickly, without taking some other fights beforehand?

If nothing was wrong, then it begs the question what is he going to put right?

Did people speculate when Tyson lost for the first time or just accept he got beat by the better man ?

Of course they did and with good reason .

Tyson was a coke addled woman beating alcoholic with an extremely chaotic life outside the ring and a mess of a team behind him.

I don't know about the coke, but he was in turmoil. BUT...most historians and boxing gurus agree that THAT Buster Douglas was almost unbeatable for that one night, or at least really great. He could've beaten any Tyson.

Quite possibly. It was a shot to nothing and he took full advantage of the circumstances.

The question is whether or not he is technically adept enough to beat a solid well schooled heavyweight in Ruiz.

I think there's this misconception that he lose because of this or that. I believe he lost to a technically better and tougher fighter. If that's the case, his time at the top is surely over. He can't regain his belts and he's going to have to take the short end of the stick if he loses to Ruiz again. With millions in the bank and two hidings behind him, I'm not sure he will have the motivation to take small money for a ruiz or wilder fight, with the prospect of another hiding on the cards.

I’m more coming around to the idea that AJ wasn’t the same after the first knockdown, that punch just scrambled his brain and I don’t think he ever recovered.. Easy to make other excuses but he was never the same after that first knockdown.

i agree, hed won the first 2 round unanimously and scored a big kd in the third. it was going okay for him, but the ruiz hurt him as he followed up and aj was never the same

i think aj can win rounds and hurt ruiz, but can he avoid getting tagged and hurt? ruiz to his credit showed the courage to punch with aj and not be shelled by the big firepower

i do think aj could not have been so eager and open in following up after the kd of ruiz. he went for it instead of being methodical

He did seem like a bloke taking his first hit of LSD.

But when you rewatch the fight...every time AJ throws Ruiz ducks and throws looping shots over the top. McCracken then tells AJ at the end of round one exactly what he's doing and to watch out for it.

After this Ruiz starts to step in leaving no room for AJ to throw back with his usual power.

Ray Leonard got clipped by Duran in round 2 of their first fight and admits it took him 3-4 rounds to wake up. By this time Duran had beaten him up and swept the rounds.

Good, simple, accurate technical analysis. Pearls before swine these days, though. A lot of boxing 'trainers' nowadays only know how to get blokes fit and strong, technical knowledge is secondary., so how can we expect the image is everything general public or even self-proclaimed boxing fans to see how it was boxing skills and drills that proved Joshua's downfall.
