Akinwade vs lennox? Was that a dq for holding?
I never saw that one. It may have been.
Akinwande.gilgamesh wrote: ↑16 Jan 2021, 18:22Wlad held a lot and he wasn't often warned much for it either.
Referees just don't enforce holding all that often. The only time I've ever seen a guy DQ'd over it is because he was holding so hard that he literally wouldn't even let go when the referee tried to break them. The referee would be physically prying them apart, and he'd just hold on for dear life like he didn't wanna fight. After a few times of trying to work real hard to pry him loose, the referee just DQ'd his ass.
That was Jesse Ferguson against Tyson.
I've never seen a DQ for holding anywhere else.
Well you're the 2nd person that's brought that up so I'd say that confirms it.oogiebe wrote: ↑16 Jan 2021, 23:08Akinwande.gilgamesh wrote: ↑16 Jan 2021, 18:22Wlad held a lot and he wasn't often warned much for it either.

Been watching boxing for over 40 years, and it's the only one I can remember. Holding isn't enforced nearly as much as it should be.gilgamesh wrote: ↑16 Jan 2021, 23:12Well you're the 2nd person that's brought that up so I'd say that confirms it.oogiebe wrote: ↑16 Jan 2021, 23:08Akinwande.gilgamesh wrote: ↑16 Jan 2021, 18:22

Are there any other examples from the last 35 years?
Well now you know 2 because Tyson vs Jesse Ferguson is another one.
I'm surprised I didn't (and still don't) remember Tyson/Ferguson being a DQ for holding. Hmmmm...gilgamesh wrote: ↑16 Jan 2021, 23:27Well now you know 2 because Tyson vs Jesse Ferguson is another one.
But yeah those are the only 2 I'm aware of, and I was just made aware of the Akinwande one today. I think I've probably heard that before but it's not really the kinda thing that sticks in your head without watching the fight, and I don't think I care to look up the Lewis vs Akinwande fight
I would actually say the Tyson vs Ferguson fight is reasonably amusing to see for what it is. Tyson drops Ferguson, and appears to break his nose with an uppercut. After that Ferguson holds on like his life depends on it and eventually gets DQ'd. It was actually Tyson's first non KO win. They might've changed it later on to a TKO just to keep his streak going or some BS, but it was a DQ when you watch it.
I remember Wlad being deducted a point for excessive holding exactly once. Against Povetkin. Didn't matter as he won every single round, and dropped him multiple times.DrDuke wrote: ↑17 Jan 2021, 01:08 Bruno was also taken points away for holding Tyson. That's how it should have went with Ruiz. A warning, a point, then the last point and warning, then DQ. Tyson-Ferguson and Lewis-Akinwande were good calls. But had Ruiz even been warned for that in any of his sh*tbouts? He was allowed to hug to much and should have being penalized.
Wlad vs Povetkin was a quite foulish bout. Wlad could have been taken another point and warned harsher easily. Anyway, he indeed dropped and outclassed Povetkin in addition to that. He clearly dominated. While the Ruiz fights were usually tough to score.gilgamesh wrote: ↑17 Jan 2021, 01:11I remember Wlad being deducted a point for excessive holding exactly once. Yep. I have to give Ruiz credit though. He was able to take what limited skills he had, and somehow make almost everyone fight his fight. He was able to draw them into an ugly fight, and make it close enough that he could win. He's an overachiever, albeit a boring one.DrDuke wrote: ↑17 Jan 2021, 01:17Wlad vs Povetkin was a quite foulish bout. Wlad could have been taken another point and warned harsher easily. I agree, but there was nothing wrong with the premise of the fight itself, though (i.e. a WBC champ facing the WBO titleholder).
