I love watching Canelo fight. The way he goes through the gears in fights against good fighters is something else.

Mauricio Suliaman was a bit of a joke in the ring afterwards - trying to get Canelo to hold the WBC belt and then seemingly forcing him to wear a WBC t-shirt.

Yeh he’s the first one in there.

I think showtime and all concerned (including Eddie) did a great job of hyping the fight. Somehow Plant went from just a no name, average belt holder who bring nothing but would be an easy win for Callum Smith or BJS to an actual slight threat for Canelo.

Atm Canelo seems to have the opposite effect of Floyd Mayweather. Whereas the champions Floyd faced got negatively dissected and criticised and we were continually told there were tougher options, Canelos opponents seem to get given more credit/ chances the minute they sign the line. Perhaps it's the disadvantages in height Canelo invariably brings.

I'm still glad it happened so the division is fully unified, but I hope now we see him fight some of the more serious threats

plant would be an easy win for bjs or callum? dont agree, he did better than both of them too. callum arguably didnt win a round

guys like ryder and coeceres were handfuls for bjs and cal

that said, plants resume was certainly thin. uzcategui was by far his best win, and all his title defenses were soft

Plant is not an easy win for anyone.

I agree. Just mainly looking at what journos and people being filmed on ifl were saying. There was not many calling Plant a hot prospect or a dangerous threat to Bjs or Smith when they were champions....rightly or wrongly. I agree, Plant would have been the best name and toughest fight on either Smith or Bjs resume (a terrible looking Groves aside). Indeed as you say, guys who struggle with Ryder would probably lose to Plant. However, up until Canelos quest to unify everyone was seemingly dismissive of Plant as a threatening champion, but now he was considered a legitimate threat to a guy who dominated the other 168 champions.

Hope he now fights some more serious threats?! It’s not like he’s been fighting bums - he’s fought 3 undefeated world champs. We can analyse their opponents and say none of them were great world champs but he’s cleaned out the division.

Who do you want him to fight?

Brilliant finish from Canelo, the accuracy and power was first class, full credit to Plant though he gave Canelo all he could handle for long spells z I thought Canelo would have him out of there pretty early but his movement and jab troubled him all night up until the KO, you've gotta feel for Plant hurting his right hand early, I noticed after about 3rd or 4th him signalling to his corner he'd hurt it, still he kept popping out the jab and befuddling Alvarez

Canelo was pretty poor overall I thought, couldn't get his punches off and was made to miss a lot, most of his work missed, blocked and partially blocked, he trudged forward but looked crude, he was obviously landing the harder blows but not enough for me, I had it even going into 11th but I could've had Plant ahead probably if anything

Still no question about the finish apart from the ref couldve gave Plant a count after second KD but the ending was superb, rocked Plant with a left hook then nailed him with a peach of a right uppercut then another left to help him on his way, 2 big chopping rights for the finiah, no doubt Plant looked done but give an 8 count at least ffs

Plant vs BJS or Callum, possibly at LHW sounds interesting.

Yeh it’s true.

Canelo took that away from him from the start.

Cal couldn’t do shit afterwards.

Canelo really doesn't like movement and quick handed fighters.

Surely this is the way to beat him.

Nevertheless he always seems to catch up with his foe.

He only had one arm because every time Canelo postured to assault him he just cowered inside his guard like he was wrapping a shroud around himself and he gave Canelo that target if he wanted it. If he’d defended himself another way that couldn’t have happened, if you just present the dude with a guard to smash through like a big stiff straight up idiot you’re getting something broken down whether it’s your ribs or your arms.

 I’m going to be really generous and assume the point of his comparison is squat counterpunchers walking down taller men in divisions above and KO’ing them. I suspect that’s a generous reading but I’m going to say it anyway

He might not have paid for it but I’m pretty sure someone did there - Dana probably had no idea who though.

Who knows. He probably did pay for it. There was actually two screens that had the Canelo fight on.

Yep. Scary thing is that he probably believes it.

The only guy that can say what he did with any credibility is Josh Taylor who also fought 3 undefeated guys to pick up all of the belts. He arguably fought comparatively tougher opposition too.

He should believe in it. Athletes must believe they're the best, regardless of what opinions fans and observers have.
