If I started a channel showing fights of boxers never shown before. What could I charge per month subscription. I own the largest fight library in UK. I am hoping some investers will take it on board. Sod dragons den. I filmed most amateur championships from 1991 to present. Including 3 -4 nations. Internationals etc

£0 subscription, mate. Sorry. You'd never make your collection work like that. Most of your collection is only of any interest to the lads and lasses who fought on those shows. There may be a very small number of enthusiasts who would enjoy looking through the back catalogue but those that would pay for it would be fewer than a dozen in the country probably. I don't think there's much value in the fight footage.

Look at the stuff on your YouTube channel that has many thousands of views versus dozens and low hundreds:-

A fight in the crowd at Wembley is by far your most viewed fight footage. None of the actual fights get viewed much at all.

Gary Taylor training is good. If you've got any more stuff like that there's value in it,

Errol Christies funeral peaked people's interest.

Herol Graham and Nigel Benn together did well.

If you'd put "Ernie Taylor and Ian Wadley Hardcore Bodybuilding Training Session" rather than "Ian and Ernie Training" you'd probably have 50k views on that footage rather than 2k.

Your women's bodybuilding stuff could do better if you titled it well too. There is quite a specialist interest in that,

It's stuff like that in your collection that has general appeal. Not the fights. Did you film any bodybuilding seminars or guest posing events?

I think that’s a really fair assessment Jimmy. Very very few people would pay any kind of subscription for it. Particularly when times are tough like they are now. The main people interested are the fighters themselves and it’ll be difficult to monetise the collection.

Eric - I hope you get what you want for your collection but if you’re in a position where you need help to pay the bills then I’d encourage you to be open minded when given offers for things. Financially (inflation, cost of living) things aren’t going to get much easier, at least in the short term, so turning some of your collection into cash, even if it is less than you think they’re worth, may be the way to go. Ultimately something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.

Yes, it's so difficult to breakthrough and monetise content. There are millions of people trying to become YouTubers. Hundreds of thousands of people have expensive camera equipment and put hours a day into producing and editing targeted stuff. They are constantly adapting to YouTube's algorithm requirements, begging for like, subscribe, share, comments etc and still only a fraction of them make it pay. Those that do obviously make a great living but they work their socks off, have charisma to burn and are switched on to the current trends.

A bloke I've known for 20+ years in the USA has approximately 150k subscribers, uploads circa 30 well made videos per week and taken in isolation the advertising revenue from views, which are in the hundreds of thousands per week, don't come close to covering the time and cost of producing the content. It pays from the approximately 2% of the viewers that purchase the things his videos contain that he uses and talks about in the videos. In other words, his Youtube content is purely the advertising for his core business i.e. physical things he sells. He also does Twitter, Instagram and Facebook campaigns, plus his comprehensive website content.

Some of Eric's content could be used as footage in more comprehensive productions and there will undoubtedly be a few hidden gems but as a standalone product I don't see a whole lot of financial value, I'm afraid,.

If he could sit down and have a chat over the top of the footage with some of the lads who went on to have success as pros there might be more interest, anecdotes, timelines, who they were with, etc but then you are trying to be Tris Dixon with a twist and you have to arrange to meet the lads and do all the work that comes with that and be good at it.

The time to do this would have been at least ten years ago tbh. As stated above YouTube is very hard work to make money from now especially with very niche stuff like amateur boxing and ancient bodybuilding.

Yes mate but what have you managed to make out of it already? It’s like me asking for folk to pay me again because their driveways and kitchens I done ten years ago are still sound. Your on go fund me to pay your rent, so you need to think long and hard about how valuable your stuff is to someone else because it’s clearly not paying your bills. Did someone ask you to spend 35 years filming stuff? Have you been charging people for the footage over the last 35 years?

Something’s only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. No one doubts the time you’ve spent filming everything and I’m sure there’s some excellent stuff in there. In reality though there aren’t too many people who’d be interested in paying to watch 20 year old junior ABA semi finals even if they have got some big names in them.

Its great to have a hobby , but to expect someone to pay thousands of pounds to buy your hobby is probably reaching for a star too high ,
, for most being Mr Boxing and the man to go to for a copy of your fight 25 years ago would be enough ,,,

The illegal vhs/dvd sellers were probably making a lot selling in the back of boxing monthly back in the day. I remember paying 20 odd quid for a vhs/dvd of a big usa fight.

The monies not in people watching any old bout, it's in people wanting a copy of themselves, their brother, their dad or grandad competing at a time when video filming was in it's infancy. Some kids who had just a handful of bouts would pay an arm and a leg for a copy.

At the other end of the scale, footage and photos of fighters who have gained notoriety both inside and outside the ring have a value.

The problem with moneytising Erics video collection is the cost of getting a message out to those prospective buyers who may have no current interest in boxing and are therefore difficult to reach through forums like this and other boxing media.

Imo you’d need to be a bit of a knob to charge a guy much for his own fights. Just my opinion.
