David Haye should be on SKY as either presenter or colour commentator. He's a very good talker and obviously knows the game inside out. I'm old enough to remember when commentators didn't show any biased, but that all changed after Harry shouted, "Get in there Frank." Like most on here, Ian Darke was fantastic and would be a welcome return, although he is great doing the footy on BT. Glen and Ian together were excellent, but Glen isn't what he used to be. DAZN pulled a flanker getting Mike Costello and I really enjoy Andy Lee, his 'Homer Simpson' comment was possibly the funniest thing I've ever heard a boxing commentator say. Adam Smith without the bias would be fine, but he ain't gonna change. Laura Woods is a tremendous talent and she would be an excellent presenter for any sports show. Some people on here are saying that people need to be former pros, but that is nonsense. Reg Gutteridge was the best to ever pick up a microphone and he hadn't boxed before. Realistically, SKY aren't going to get Costello or Darke, so they will need to look elsewhere. Ed Robinson doing interviews and roving at ringside is good. I always liked how HBO would go to Harold Lederman for his scores. I would really like that in this country, a knowledgeable, well-spoken former boxing judge giving his scores and opinion on fouls and if points should or should not be taken off.
Never in my life known a pundit get as many big fights wrong as Haye! Was at it the other week as well alluding that Wardley v Gorman was settling in for a long fight. Seconds after his quote - bosh - towel comes in! Have to laugh. Also, can’t respect anyone wearing shades in December…

I would be able to suck it up if he was just in the studio but to be commentating is a p*ss take

Nope.
Took a leave of absence to deal with something.
Apparently back in the new year.
Talk of a gambling addiction. Hope it’s not true.

Reg Gutteridge boxed as an amateur before the war. After losing a leg during the war he turned to press reporting and then commentating. His father and uncle, the Gutteridge Twins, and his Grandfather Arthur, were steeped in boxing. He came from boxing royalty
Miles Templeton
Yeah I read he was a decent ama.
Apparently he trained as a solider for months and months, first sniff of action was at Normandy and he jumped off a tank on the beach and a mine blew his leg off.
He said that he was having some hassle with sonny Liston in a hotel and he got fed up of him giving it the tough man routine so he took a knife and stabbed his wooden leg and said yes but can you do this. Liston didn’t realise it was fake and was completely freaked out by it.

ffs don't tell me we are going to have to put up with the pr*ck on commentary. I have sympathy for anyone with cancer but that's no excuse for them getting paid handsomely to ruin boxing nights.

Really pleased he has come through his Ill health. I, for one, hope he continues to have some involvement in boxing. His absence has been keenly felt.

100%. I’m not a “fan” but cut the guy a break. Maybe he’s marmite but he’s no villain is he?
I ignore the nasty nonsense on here. Sometimes people really need to have a look at themselves.
Beggars belief.

I'm a nice bloke as is most on the forum but we are not getting paid thousands of pounds to travel to events and ruin them on commentary.
Obviously I wish the lad well as cancer is no joke but do I want my boxing nights ruined by his awful commentary when I've had a great reprieve? No.

Would we rather:
Listen to Adam Smith on comms
Listen to Toney Bellew on comms
Listen to David Haye on comms
Id rather have Adam Smith any day of the week.

My main beef is that he sounds like Douglas hurd with a throat infection doing an impression of Shaggy when he's commentating.
That and the fact that much of what he says is clichéd cack, or tonally at odds with what's occurring in the ring, often he's cranking it up, like a six year old who got the evel knievel toy on Christmas morning.
It makes me want to gouge out my ear canals with knitting needles.
Other than that, don't mind him.

Surely that’s like saying what type of animal shite we’d rather eat?
Can’t we have steak instead of shite?

Well done on beating cancer, that's a big job, big up to him.
You can say comms have been worse without him, but that's not a reason to have him back.

People are just commenting on his commentary. He wasn’t the best but I don’t find him as bad as some do in here.
He appeared to be the middle man between promoter and network and essentially did quality control for Sky Sports boxing. I have to say the quality has been a lot worse since he hasn’t been around and I can’t remember a time when U.K. boxing on Sky has been as bad as it has been this year.
I’m glad to hear he’s seemingly doing ok after his battle with cancer. I did get the impression though that he’s leaving Sky based on his Instagram post. Will be interesting to see where he ends up.
