Do you have any idea how it's possible that Buster, who beat Tyson, didn't achieve even a small fraction of what he did? Tyson won 12 title fights and Buster 1, Tyson won 3 fights that Buster lost to, even before their fight the odds were 42-1 for Tyson, are people blind or did Douglas only wake up for that one night?
Tyson beat over the hill, mediocre fighters. Buster stopped a young Tyson. End of discussion.
Buster also lost to Tony Tucker who Mike Tyson beat, and was smashed way easier by Holyfield than Tyson was.
I wonder if Tyson's management would've ever went for a Buster rematch or if they would've just been content to write him off as a bad style matchup for their guy?
Boxing history is funny like that. Where a guy can have a win over someone, but not necessarily be regarded by history as the better fighter.
That is definitely the case with Buster Douglas beating Mike Tyson.
He definitely beat the sh*t out of Mike. No one can take that away.
But I think very, very few would rate him ahead of Mike on an all time list.
While that is true, it clearly wasn't the same guy from Tokyo. I do think the guy from Tokyo gives Holyfield all types of problems.

I have always said that the Buster Douglas that beat the great Mike Tyson in Tokyo in February 1990, could have beaten any other heavyweight, past or present, that night. He had the tools. He was tall (6'4") with the right weight (231lbs), with a terrific fast jab, mobility, ring general ship, with vicious right hand and upper cuts.
Tyson couldn't cope with that speed of feet and hands. Plus, Everytime that Tyson tried to rush in, Douglas smothered him up beautifully and tied him up. It was a sensational performance. His best win ever.
I thought that he was going to do the same thing against the great Evander Holyfield, but, he let a lot of people down. Especially, at weigh in at 246lbs. That was the beginning of that downfall.
For a short HW, Tyson's lack of a great inside game was a huge short coming IMO. At mid-range he was amazing but on the inside he got tied up too easily and was too happy to let guys do it as well.

I don't think Buster Douglas of Tokyo was Invincible or unbeatable. He'd give many Heavyweights a hard nights work. He'd lose to many.
Everybody wouldn't have overlooked him the way Mike Tyson did.
How would Buster's night have gone in Tokyo if he got some real adversity? He pretty much had his way the whole night.

If it's Holyfield vs Douglas from Tokyo. I figure Holyfield stops him in 8 rounds instead of 3, but he still stops him.
Douglas was one of them guys that once he got life changing money he never could find the motivation again, and I can understand that honestly. I can't say I'd wanna get up at 6 AM and go jogging in the morning when I'm a multi millionaire either.

I think Holy fought one of the best versions of Mike in their first fight. Most probably Mike was training very serious bc he wanted so bad to redeem himself. That was a more mature&experienced version of Mike.
I think this may be true. It was Tyson’s last great performance really.

Mike sounds more like an intellectual person than a fighter. He reminds me of Beast character from X-Men. lol

Well he is. It's a pity that he could not avenged at that time his loss against Buster. In that night Buster fought the best fight of his life. He was very gritty and clever.
Mike's best fights imo are Tucker, Buster and Holy I. Best win is Tucker.

Btw about some people saying that Holmes is Mike's best win, which on paper it may look like but that version of Holmes was a poor one:

Yeah I agree. He wasn't the nicest bloke in the world and he obviously has some sort of personality disorder but in terms of fighting he was great to watch. We see a more chilled out version of Mike these days but back in the day it was a different story.

Yes.
Mostly people that lived in that era wanted to see a first round knockout or controversial tirade by Iron Mike. It was some great times on the history of boxing since the Muhammad Ali era.

If this is the fight I am thinking of, it was ruled a DQ at the time. Then it was after changed to a TKO.
