Parker-Wardley: Mitchell Smith vs. Arnie Dawson Joins Oct. 25 Undercard

Mitchell Smith has been handed the chance to reignite his career with a slot on the October 25 card headlined by Joseph Parker against Fabio Wardley.

The 32-year-old has not boxed in a 10-round fight since his famous loss to underdog George Jupp nearly 10 years ago in Manchester.

He has since been to prison three times, battled drink and drugs problems while, at one point the former junior lightweight contender ballooned up in weight to over 240 pounds - nearly twice his fighting weight.

But now Smith (18-1, 9 KOs) is set to face promising Essex lightweight Arnie Dawson (8-0, 4 KOs), who is 10 years his junior, at London’s o2 Arena on October 25 in the All or Nothing show set to be broadcast live worldwide on DAZN.

“This is the biggest opportunity of my life,” Smith said. “So proud of myself for staying close to the weight and in half-decent shape while waiting for any opportunity to land.

“Thank you to my brother/coach Arron Woodcock and I want to thank Queensberry Promotions and DAZN for having me on.”

Smith has battled hard to get himself back into the picture alongside his day job in the scrap metal trade. He has boxed just twice in the past three years in a pair of low-key outings over four and then six rounds.

During an interview with The Ring last month, Smith admitted that he is now drinking in the last chance saloon as he awaits one final shot at a meaningful fight. Now allegedly and Queensberry, who promoted him back in his heyday, have provided him with that.

Dawson meanwhile, has not put a foot wrong over the course of his professional career, which kicked off in November 2023.

He has racked up eight wins since then and completed the 10-round distance for the first time in his last outing, beating Marley Mason at York Hall, Bethnal Green in September.

'The Terminator' had been due to box back at York Hall on November 15 but that fight has now been cancelled in favour of this opportunity against Smith at the o2 three weeks earlier, contesting the vacant WBO European lightweight title last held by Cameron Vuong.

On the undercard is a flyweight named Tony Cutis with a record of 11-1.

He's from Woolwich, where I was born & went to school, and an old mate who's in the amateur scene there told me the kid has great skills but still lacks strength, especially if he's going up against these Mexican terrors.

His first fight was actually a loss in Mexico 3 years ago when he was only 16 or 17. After that he fought ten more times abroad in before having his first UK fight last time out.

Definitely one I'll be keeping an eye on.

While a nice record, it's very padded, young kid though

His name is Tony Curtis.
I've had a look at two of his fights on YouTube.
One guy who was 0-1 and is now 0-4 well, Tony made a right meal out of it. Went the distance, despite wailing on him.
Good boxing skills and speed, but nothing in the punches. Like nothing.
Maybe that will come in time, but it definitely should be top of the list.

I just saw his name, which stood out, then noticed he was from Woolwich so messaged my mate who still lives in the area & he's known about him for a few years.

Horror clash if so, clashing with ufc is always bad but an English timeslot discard with the English heavyweight champion is bad…..

There was a bit of hype round this boy on social media a few year ago. I can’t remember what gym he was at but I remember him being proper flash and I think his nickname was lightning’.

Having seen him box a few times now I think he should have stayed in the amateurs for a good few more years. No power whatsoever, he makes sunny Edwards look like a banger

Lewis Edmondson Injured, Queensberry Seeking Replacement For Ezra Taylor

The Ring has learned that this weekend’s fight between British light heavyweight champion, Lewis Edmondson (11-1, 3 KOs) and Ezra Taylor (12-0, 8 KOs) has been cancelled.

It is believed that Edmondson suffered a hip injury during the final stages of training, leaving Queensberry currently searching for a replacement opponent for 31-year-old Taylor.

The grudge match had been due to provide the chief support to the heavyweight clash between New Zealand's WBO interim champion Joseph Parker (36-3, 24 KOs) and his WBA counterpart, Ipswich's Fabio Wardley (19-0-1, 18 KOs).

DAZN will broadcast the event exclusively from London's O2 Arena on Saturday night.

Edmondson and Taylor have spent the past few months embroiled in a heated rivalry.

Edmondson appeared unfortunate to drop a 10-round majority decision defeat against undefeated Ukrainian prospect Daniel Lapin last time out, as part of the Oleksandr Usyk-Daniel Dubois II undercard at London's Wembley Stadium on July 19.

Two months earlier in Nottingham, the dangerous Taylor recorded a career-best victory when he battled to a unanimous decision victory over former English champion Troy Jones.

It is a busy period for Britain's top light heavyweights.

On November 1, Joshua Buatsi (19-1, 13 KOs) will fight Zach Parker (26-1, 18 KOs), with the winner moving closer to a WBO title shot held by unified and Ring champion Dmitry Bivol.

On the undercard, European champion Brad Rea (21-1, 10 KOs) makes the first defence of his title against former world title challenger Lyndon Arthur (24-3, 16 KOs) whilst Liam Cameron, Troy Jones, Billy Deniz and Ezra Aranyeka are also set to feature.

On November 22, London's Anthony Yarde (27-3, 24 KOs) will challenge David Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs) for the WBC 175-pound title, headlining a talent-rich Ring IV show taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The timing seemed perfect for Edmondson and Taylor to finally settle their differences, with the winner ideally placed to join Britain's best at 175 pounds.

This is not a PPV worthy show, wonder how many actual tickets sold ?

That's a shame, that was the best fight on the undercard.

Birmingham's Steed Woodall has agreed to step in at short notice to face Ezra Taylor on Saturday night following the withdrawal of the injured Lewis Edmondson.

As revealed by The Ring, British light-heavyweight champion Edmondson (11-1, 3 KOs) has been forced out of the clash at London's o2 Arena after suffering a hip injury during training.

Edmondson’s title defence against Taylor was supposed to serve as the chief support to the heavyweight clash between Joseph Parker and Fabio Wardley, which will be broadcast worldwide by DAZN on Saturday.

On receiving the news about Edmondson’s injury, Queensberry immediately sought a replacement opponent for Taylor (12-0, 8 KOs) instead of pulling the fight altogether.

And now The Ring has learned Woodall (20-3-1, 12 KOs) has answered the call to fight. The 31-year-old was scheduled to take part in the eight-man super middleweight tournament, titled The Heist, promoted by GBM on November 8 so has been in training camp for that.

Woodall was stopped inside two rounds by Callum Simpson in his challenge for the British super middleweight title in January but returned with a six-round points win over Marcelon Fabian Bzowski on September 25.

His most notable victory came against the previously undefeated Lerrone Richards, who he stopped in the sixth round of their Bolton super middleweight fight in June 2024.

Relatively easy night for Joe on Saturday.
