Marciano looked ridiculous trying to finish Don Cockell.

What a mess of a fight.

Shavers was regarded as the hardest puncher of his era. He may have also hit harder than any 90s heavyweight. Unfortunately actual measurements of his power do not appear to be available.

that old old light-h ur talking about was the # 1 heavyweight contender and was beating all the big young powerful contenders in the division like baker, henry, and valdez. moore may have been 38 when he fought marciano, but i am also one who believes that archie moore was a better fighter in his 30s. i believe archie moore was still at the top of his game when he fought marciano in 55. his 14th round destruction of hall of famer harold johnson 1 year earlier and his oustanding 45-1 record leading up to the marciano bout furthers my point. moore also weighed in at 189lb when he fought marciano, thats not a light-h. moore was a huge light-h who had trouble making weight, so he could manage to fight at 185-190lb and still be in great shape.


also, marciano was not sloppy. i totally disagree. this was one of rockys best preformances. he totally wore down archie moore and dominated him knocking him down 4 times. this was marcianos best defensive preformance, he slipped many of moores jabs and counterpunches. how did he look sloppy? he may have missed a lot of punches, but thats cause marciano was facing one of the greatest defenseive counterpunchers of all time. he was fighting a ring savvvy defensive wizard with incrediblel ring intelligence and world class experience. u ever wonder if thats the reason marciano missed so many punches? still he managed to hit moore enough times to knock him down 4 times and give him a horrible beatinmg.

the only thing i noticed was that rocky did seem to get more tired in this fight than his other fights and he seemed to lose a bit of handspeed. however marciano was 32 and starting to age. he wasnt training with the same intensity anymore.

i agree, it was rocky marcianos worst fight by far. kinda like holmes vs rodriguez. both holmes and marciano easily dominated there foe, but they looked very sloppy in the proccess. both fought down to there opponents levels. that was not a peak marciano in there vs cockell

Although he did have him as the 10 all time, and in 1970 said he would not bump him out of the rankings to make room for Ali.

Suppose I suffered an aberration and decided to include Clay among the top 10. This would mean ousting Marciano to make room for Ali as my all-time number l0. That would be farcical. Clay never could have beaten Marciano. Clay’s record is not the superior of the one the tragic Rocky left behind him when he retired from boxing unbeaten.

I know this doesn't mean he didn't underrate Marciano, obviously a lot of people have him much higher than ten but I wonder if Fleischer warmed to him a little after he retired.

i never said he underated marcianos placement in history, i said he underated marcianos skill. he thought marciano was all power and no skill which is ridiculous. flescher failed to see the little subtle things marciano did. goldman really polished rocky up well!

What research tells you that Holmes said that Tyson hit harder than Shavers? Holmes never said that! You are either a liar, or you are terrible at research.

Sorry, but trying to act like you are really above it, but it's just a vice is like everything else you say...no one is going to believe...hell, you can't keep from telling fibs about something irrelevant...much less anything else. You should pick up the habit of trying to learn something about boxing history though...and for a minute there you had sounded like you had by following my teachings, but that will be a couple of years down the road...but for the time-being, you should just sit back and learn because constantly correcting you is getting old! Ray Mancini (I think it was him) said that he was surprised at the sting in Hector Camacho's punches

I doubt it was Mancini who said that. In their fight, Camacho ran for almost the entire fight. He didn't land anything hard.

I remember Lightheavyweight contender Willie "Sandman"Edwards saying that Bobby Czyz hit him harder than Saad Muhammed.I thought that was pretty strange.

Nothing surprising about Willie Edwards saying Bobby Czyz hit him the hardest. Czyz knocked him unconscious and he was out for awhile. I remember his family getting hysterical for awhile. Ironically, Edwards would have had a clear knockdown in the first, only for Czyz to bounce back up off the ropes.

I'm aware of what took place when Edwards fought both men,as I too saw both fights.My point was that Saad had been regarded as a very hard puncher(one of his strengths)whereas Czyz was not normally known as such as brutal puncher.

You were always known for having a rock solid chin. Who hit you the hardest in your professional career?

:Ray Mercer: Tommy Morrison. Morrison hit me so hard to the body with those hooks that I was actually farting in the ring. (Laughs) You have to act like…you can’t let the guy see that you’re hurt, but I’m pretty sure he heard and smelled a couple of things. (Laughs) But he hit me harder than I was ever hit in boxing.
