er no, those 'Carribeans' are by and large born here, which makes them English Bubi. Lennox Lewis, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Michael Watson, Duke Mc Kenzie, Lloyd Honeyghan Skelton Williams, etc etc were all I think I am correct in saying, were BORN IN ENGLAND.

The fact is boxers tend to come from poorer backgrounds, first generation immigrants tend to be poor. There was a lot of immigration to England from the Caribbean in the 1940s and 50s so hence in the 80s and 90s many of Britain’s best boxers were of Caribbean decent. It was similar with Jewish boxers in the teens 20s and 30s with Berg, Lewis etc. It doesn't make them any less British and they certainly weren't "imported."

PS I realise Pundit was not being totally serious in his original statement, it's just something that has come up before which I always found a little irritating.

Certainly more active...when was the last time the best three American heavies fought in the same year, with one fighting 2 of them.

Yes indeed, the history of boxing is closely tied to waves of immigration, that's why the the Irish and Jewish communities had such a rich boxing history but now produce relatively few fighters in the US. Now the 'irish' tag is just used for any young white kid from the a poor background, like Mickey Ward whose family are about as Irish as Winnie Mandela.
