challenging for the 4 titles ? in which case skelton/liakovich and peter okhello are world class?
a top ten ring rating which wouldnt include a string of decent fighters?
top 20 ?
is for example Kali Meehan world class ? u know where im going here

It's a good question mate.
I would say that it has much to do with beating guys that are generally considered in the top 10. Challenging for a world title doesn't automatically include a fighter in that category. If you break down Danny's record there is little to suggest he was. Prospectively he could have been and I would argue should have been. But lack of self belief, motivation etc. at critical points excludes him IMO.
Losing to Sam, losing in returns to domestic level fighters he had beat before doesn't make a good case for him. Beating a shot Tyson got him a crack at Vitali and he looked way short then, as he did against Sam.
Few could dislike Danny - he seems a great guy - but when trying to be objective about his career I find it very difficult to make a claim that he is/was world class.

I think you just about said it all mate a career that never really got going too many steps back not enough desire or commitment fights he should have won he just let slide away from him no way should Sam have beaten him but he was'nt prepared to put it all on the line.
In the furture I don't think he will be remembered as one of the best british heavys

would seem that way
however i would suggest that danny is way above mere gatekeeper status as shown by fights recently Danny is considered the underdog in so many fights
he was matched against Tyson as a stepping stone....ditto skelton and harrison...
and surely no one believed that Danny wouldnt prevail against Platov and Airich (however rocky at times)
i believe Danny , skelton AND Sprott are world class.
they only lose to OTHER world class fighters . there is a distinction here between journeymen-gatekeepers...in the sense that you have to be world class to beat these 3 guys ? discuss.

it really only says what dire straights heavyweight boxing is in when we can consider these three as world class injust about any other weight group they would be outside the top 20 never mind top 10

theres no upper weight limit...obviously
how would you analyise the fight between williams and platov in relation to another weight division ?

just the same as any other fight IE punches landed skill shown defence & aggression.this is getting perverse now how would you do it

that is not a fair way to analyze the division based on the reason ive given
ur looking at straight entertainment value presumably ..thats different
skill level is not quantifiable
any welterweight stopping a fighter who is a 1b heavier is one thing
a heavyweight stopping a fighter who is 40- 50 60 lbs heavier can not be measured this way in comparison to the rest of the divisions
in your study Danny williams has won fights in the equivalent of god knows how many weight divisions since the 1990's ...

And McDermott won 2 rounds. Danny deserved one point off not 3. Danny won the fight easily and I can't understand the fuss.
Thank you! I thought I was the only one!

I agree too.
You will find a lot more Boxing fans like Danny Williams more than most other Boxers. Danny Williams certainly has that Thing about him, just making him a likable guy

I'd watch a Danny Williams fight regardless of his opponent. You just don't know what will happen. His one handed KO of Potter when he dislocated his shoulder (you could see his shoulder completely out) was inspiring. He's got more heart than any other British Heavyweight on the scene and is, barring Haye, the most talented.

It's good to see ppl appreciating Williams. He has won in some very hard circumstances. He's been in some memorable fights & there have ben some very exciting moments where things went pear shaped.
Unfortunately, he turned up in obese shape for fights that were shown on ITV1, and was in his share of woeful plodding fights seen by millions, giving fuel to the proverb that "all heavyweights are effing useless."
Right now, I have no desire to see him fight any more. If it isn't a mid fight knockout, you know the 2nd half of the fight is going to be slow, sluggish and hard to watch.

I agree entirely.
Danny won that fight easily, he was almost robbed by the ludicrously harsh refereeing, which I can only think occured because Pariss has reffed some other fights where Danny strayed below the belt line.
Danny is either and over or underachiever, or perhaps both, depending on how you look at him and his career, but he has given tremendous value for money over the years, and I cannot think of another British Heavyweight who showed the guts that Danny has over the years. He just wouldn't stay down despite being hammered by Klitchsko, and his showing against Potter showed that if nothing else, he had world class heart and determination.
I have always thought part of Danny's problem, was he only really went for it, when the other guy was attacking him. I think Danny is too mild mannered, and without the threat of imminent danger, he just goes to sleep in fights. It's a bit like the 'silent contract' which Atlas talked about.
Williams will happily do just enough to win or lose a round, unless someone brings the fight to him, which is why Tyson got the shoeing he did, he was hurting Danny, and that fired him up.

hes also provided some of the most exciting fights
whats ur point ?
hes a heavyweight
some times they eat ...big deal move on
dannys the entertainer full stop.
tyson fight shocked the world
potter fight was the stuff of greek gods
second sprott fight was thrilling
first skelton fight was enthralling
keith long fight was edge of the seat
even when danny loses he makes sure he staggers around the ring like a rag doll...PURE ENTERTAINMENT...and he dsnt lose much
worth every penny

Doesn't do it for me I'm afraid.
I understand the post about being the entertainer totally, but I ust always have the nagging feeling in the back of my mind that he's only a warrior because his head is totally empty. He had real potential, and while my head can understand the argument for him overachieving, my heart always feels a bit disappointed by Williams (one or two performances aside).
