I was there when Terry checked in, the thieving Manc! Funnily enough I stole EddieShredder's room and gave it to a mate of mine who writes for a North London newspaper

We got lost at one point due to Terry's infamous sense of direction and we were trying to look for a taxi in the middle of nowhere to no avail. Furthermore, I nearly got run over by a car whilst crossing the road. The driver jumped out and was effing & blinding because his tyres were ruined due to the sudden braking/skidding. I think he was looking for a fight but we walked briskly (.... he was a huge scary looking German!

).

Two things
1) thanks to Jon for all the updates etc
2) those who were there, please give us some info and stories!? What was the atmosphere like? Unless I've somehow missed a thread??

The tickets that John sorted for us were great. Front row of the lower tier, with a good view.
I`d say the atmosphere was typically German. They do the same thing as the Norwegians ie: clap in unisom. They treat it as a real family affair. Loads of them brought their wives along and I saw no trouble whatsoever. Booze was readily available and you smoke in the arena if you wanted. Very well organised and relaxed I thought.
The undercard was utter pants though and most people did not get in until fairly late on.
Gotta say that the Germans know how to organise things properly. I thought it all went smoothly. There was not that much of an atmosphere though, again fairly typical of a German event. A bit sterile.
Having said that, after Oktoberfest last year and now a long weekend in Dorf/Gelsenkirchen, I have to say that the Germans on the whole are top class. They like to booze it up and have a good time and are genuinely accepting of johnny foreigner. I would hate to think how a load of German fans would be treated if they arrived in the UK chatting up the local birds and speaking their own language to the Brits.....
It would have been a different ball game had Haye been fighting though, not least the atmosphere.
Dusseldorf was a top night out (Thursday/Friday). As mentioned on another thread we met Ricky Hatton and some mates in a bar on the Friday night. We also had a good session on the Saturday afternoon for the Lions game. Gelsenkirchen was a bit of a dive to be honest. The nightclub we ended up in after the fight was a bit like a tamed down version of Deliverance. I think most of the blokes in there were married to their sisters.

Some proper odd people in Gelsenkirchen, some locals were very strange. Think one guy asked a barmaid where we were if she wanted him to kick the shit out of us at about 4 in the morning, we brought him a drink and he was our friend.
But met some good Germans who had travelled in for the fight. One guy on the tram home who must have been one of the most knowledgeable people i've met and a group of guys back at a bar by the train station who enjoyed laughing at us for traveling all that way to watch Haye.
But yep the Germans seem to be a lot more welcoming to us than I imagine we are to them. Great ring walk by Wlad, predictably stale fight and a shite undercard. And I never did find out what the sext was being sold at the Jamaican bar.

He was a scary guy. Realised how close we came to being mowed down later that night. It was a scary thought to have at 3.30am, especially as I got lost looking for my hotel, again. Finally made it there and they had locked up, had to locate, and then shout outside, the night manager's office for them to let me in.
Still think you should have zapped the guy, Law

I didn't have my zapping button to hand

You must have the worst sense of direction in the whole world. You couldn't even find your hotel in Gelsenkirchen when you left that Turkish restaurant on Saturday night. The hotel was like 1 minute away!!!

I've just started putting through the refunds for the tickets i've received back. I've started with you guys first. Most of you will see the Paypal refunds already, the remainder will be done by early in the week. If you paid by transfer i'll be posting a cheque.

Top man - although I did not get tickets - the info you put out prior to the fight and the way you have handled this is top notch and people on this site should use you as their main outlet for tickets whether it be for this country or any other!!!
Seriously top man!!!

Echo what the others say, thanks Jon. You've put a lot of time and effort into all this for nothing, but you've generated a lot of goodwill on here for the way you've kept us all informed and sorted things promptly. I only sent my refund request a few days before the event, but got my full refund. Good man
