Each coming off inaugural losses. Who gets the chocolates?
Undercard: 2000 Fernando Vargas (22-0-0) vs. 1983 Wilfred Benitez (44-2-1) at Jr. Middleweight in a fifteen-rounder...
Benitez's skills & experience, or Vargas' size & raw strength?
Cotto is too big, strong, and powerful for Chavez up at 147. It's an exciting fight early, but Cotto gradually breaks down Chavez, busts him up, and stops him in about 10 rounds.
Vargas-Benitez is tough to call. I think Vargas' strength, aggression, and workrate might be able to carry him to a close split decision win.

Ketchel pressing and winging hard, B-Hop pocketing the rounds, Ketchel begins to tire allowing B-Hop to pot shot some more and spoil - B-Hop by UD.
Palomino establishes his jab from the get go, buckles Tito on one or two occasions. Tito is warming up, firing hard and fast, pushing Palomino back. Palomino has heart but, against the ropes under severe pressure, is rescued in about 8 rounds.
Dariusz Michalczewski v Marvin Johnson - 15 Rounds
Beau Jack vs Roberto Duran - 15 Rounds

Johnson & Duran are made to work damn hard for their victories, which they earn on split & majority points, respectively. Each of the losers want an immediate rematch. Tight fights, alright.
Main Event: Heavyweight...Jim Jeffries (1899) vs. Sonny Liston (1959). Fifteen rounds.
Undercard: Lightweight...Oscar De La Hoya (1996) vs. Joel Casamayor (2008). Twelve rounds.

Liston's jab busts up Jeffries' face early and gets him off to an early lead, but Jeffries' relentless pressure and body attack convinces Liston to surrender in around the 10th round.
A prime DeLaHoya overwhelms the aging Casamayor and is well ahead on the cards when the fight is stopped somewhere between rounds 8 and 10.
Next up: DeLaHoya then goes on to fight Pryor at 140.

I think Pryor would be dropped early but once he started smoking he would stand up to DLH's power and outwork him to a close decision.
Dick Tiger vs Rodrigo Valdez
15 rounds
Emile Griffith vs Arthur Abraham
12 rounds

Tiger & Griffith each earn handy UD's. Neither, I suspect, is in true danger from their opposition.
Try this one on for size...

Rugged affair, and the term "war" applies nicely. Castillo too much pressure late though, and gets a majority decision.

Cuevas might score with one of his looping bombs and drop Benitez, but otherwise Benitez dodges most of his punches and lands his right hand at will to win a clear decision.
Next up:
Jeff Fenech vs. Ruben Olivares @ bantam, jr. feather, and feather - does it make a difference?

Fenech wins if he can stay off the canvas, by a close decision.

Michael Spinks UD imo.
Spinks would just use his reach advantage through out imo.
Patterson v Holyfield - CW

Holyfield too green to take Patterson at Cruiser. Patterson's faster hands & sharper combos carry the day for a competitive UD.
Main Event: Carlos Ortiz vs. Floyd Mayweather in a 15-rounder at 135...
^^^One of the most under-appreciated fighters of his generation against one of the most over-rated fighters of his time, respectively. Close fight, IMO. Who wins it?

I think Ortiz could combine his jab and technical pressure style to win a close split decision. Tough to call.
Goodnight, Irene wrote:Undercard: Diobelys Hurtado & Miguel Cotto at 140lbs over twelve?
Cotto stops him in about 6-8 rounds. Hurtado's speed and sneak punching might give him some moments early, perhaps even flooring or staggering Cotto; but he's not sturdy enough to withstand Cotto's strength and bodypunching. Soon he's forced to retreat, and Cotto pursues him around the ring until scoring a stoppage.
Next up:
Henry Armstrong vs. Ike Williams @ lightweight - The ultimate immovable object vs. the ultimate unstoppable force.
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game

by NazNaci1
Indeed a qulity match up.
Williams would try to to keep Henry on the back foot and mix it up with range finders and some powerful right hands in order to dissuade Armstrong from getting inside.
Armstrong starts to find his rhythm by round 4 but is marking up. His perpetual punching is now forcing the issue and Williams is struggling to keep him off. Williams is pinned on the ropes for the remaing rounds, fighting back in spurts but cant discourage Armstrong, who scores two knockdowns to clinch a fairly close, but unanimous decison.
What about:
Azumah Nelson v Marco Antonio Barrera (Featherweight - 12 Rounds)
Vic Darchinyan v Khaosai Galaxy (Bantanweight - 12 Rounds)

barrera edges nelson in a very close fight that could go either way. darchinyan, would get his ass knocked out cold by galaxy in the middle rounds.

Lopsided decisions for Mancini & Morrison, who were each simply too busy for their opponents.

Morales vs. Casamayor at 130?
I've alwys liked both fighters but in this instance I go with Casamayor in a war, his (for me) better technical skills giving him the edge, but not so much that the fight becomes one-sided.
I don't want to call a stoppage as both fighters could take a shot well, so I'll go for Casamayor by 1 or 2 rounds on all cards.
For the next one:
Mike Tyson 1986 vs Muhammad Ali 1966
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game

tyson gets off to a fast start but ali takes control of the fight in the middle rounds. ali took a great shot and would be too big for tyson. ali by unanimous decision.
next fight:
max schmeling vs ingemar johansson
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game

by Goodnight, Irene
Schmeling is just too clever to set himself up for Johansson's only weapon of note, outpointing the hapless Swede for the bulk of eight rounds before knocking him out with his own big right in the ninth.
Katsidis vs. Gatti at 135?
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game

Katsidis has the work rate and chin to win three of the first five rounds. Mid way through Gatti stuns Katsidis with a huge left to the jaw.By the latter part of the fight Katsidis is taking too many hooks to the body and chin and the fight is stopped, much to MK's wobbly legged protests.

Lopez is sturdier and more resilient IMO, and I think that is the deciding factor. Lopez comes on to win by late KO.
Next up, double header featuring Carlos Ortiz.
First, Ortz takes on Tony Canzoneri at lightweight.
Then, he faces Kostya Tszyu at jr. welter.

Ortiz gets a controversial split over Canzoneri, then UD's Tszyu.
