Forgot he was champ first.
I wrote a blog pleading for hendo/rua to be the first fox main event after the deal was announced. Somebody shared it with hendo and he said let's do it. Not that it had anything to do with me, still cool.mcgregor definitely should have been stripped when he took the Diaz rematch. Aldo was an inactive champion, how many times did he go 6 months without defending his title?p4p1 wrote:Cain was champ when JDS knocked him out. Remember there was a massive issue because it was their debut on dos and the UFC decided just to show the HW title fight in an hour long spot. Getting sparked that early doesn't paint a picture of what a rematch would look like. Similar thing happened with Cain/JDS, with the exception that Cain was not the champ. With Aldo having been the long time champ, the only FW champ the UFC has ever had, I find it unfair that they did not grant him an immediate rematch. I understand why the did not, but it doesn't make it any less wrong. Imagine had they done something like that with other long reigning champions like GSP or Silva.SaadOffTheDeck wrote: I've been a longtime Aldo fan, even before wec and I'm of the complete opposite view. I'm sick of him whining. Get off your ass and make it happen. A rematch of a 13 second ko is a hard sell.
The thing with Aldo is he has been promised a rematch twice. 1st time was after McGregor lost to Diaz, Aldo was due to have his rematch at 200 before McGregor threw his toys out of the pram. The second time he was promised his rematch if he beat Edgar for the interim belt which again he didn't get despite earning it(in arguably a career best performance). Then things are bought up like how he turned down the McGregor rematch on 10 days notice at 155 with no belt on the line having been only a few days clear of a medical suspension. Its not the first time he has been thrown under the bus by the UFC.
Hes definitely injury prone but when healthy always defended. 3x in all but I'm not sure all were completely his fault his last long lay off before he pulled out of the McGregor fight wasn't due to injury or not wanting to fight and he had another long lay off where he had pullouts from opponents, changes of opponents and I wouldn't be surprise during if he pulled out himself during that stretch either.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I wrote a blog pleading for hendo/rua to be the first fox main event after the deal was announced. One of the most impressive things about McGregor is his activity. I think it's probably one of the reasons why he looked so sharp against Alvarez. I don't completely understand why mores guys aren't as active though, you've got a short window to make money make as much as possible. Most of them are in the gym everyday anyway.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:He's one of the goat, just saying McGregor is much more active and I think that should be taken into consideration when complaints are offered. I understand his anger, but he's not the only one. It's combat sports, Christ khabib had a contract in front of him. I feel much worse for him. He shoukd just move up after max, though if Cruz beats Cody and is interested that would be highly interesting..
That's truly a great matchup for Aldo. If it s a 5 round fight Nate probably ends up looking worse than Faber did. Aldo knows how to pace himself and will be able to outgrapple Diaz. I think Aldo would be smart to fight as many southpaws as possible before facing Mac again as well. I don't think the UFC needs to rush through another Diaz vs McGregor fight it will always be a big money fight even if both are coming off 1 or 2 losses. I would certainly watch them again, they will always make an exciting fight.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:He should try and get Nate. Didn't even think about it, that's his best path to the rematch(though I think Nate gets conor next), he'd dismantle Diaz with leg kicks in front of a big viewing audience and maybe drum up some serious public demand. Of which I've seen none.
Hard core fans buy it anyway. The product is too strong. I'd buy a zombie/Choi fight from South Korea.p4p1 wrote:Khabib is doing the right thing though and making a ton of noise. Sadly the UFC could get away with another Diaz fight though, would be hard to justify to hardcore fans though.
I would watch those two fight whenever they fight tbh I would be angry that Diaz is getting the shot but I would still watch it. KZ vs Choi would be awesome. Rumours are floating around of Lawler vs Nick Diaz at 209, I wonder if nate will get up for a fight at 209 and if he does who would they put him in with?SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Hard core fans buy it anyway. Sure but it should've been made after Bisping lost to Jacare.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Bisping/hendo was amazing. Better than any Silva fight.
He hasn't shown that he doesn't belong either. Many thought he beat Condit. He bruised up GSP something awful. And he was extremely competitive with Silva after having moving up a weight. Considering his inactivity, he still shows to be a force. Plus, he sells. I have no issue with his receiving high profile fights.jujigatame wrote:I have to say I'm a little sick of Nick Diaz getting thrown in to all these high-profile fights. The guy is 33 years old and hasn't won a fight since 2011. Let him have a comeback fight with someone like Cote or Brown or Nelson to at least show he belongs in there with the top guys first.
He's a 170 pounder. I'll bet he is still among the top 5 of the division. I have little doubt he beats the likes of Brown, Cote, Cerrone, etc... Maia would be a death match for him. However, I can see Wonderboy and Woodley matches very intriguing.jujigatame wrote:GSP dominated him and won every round. So did Anderson. The Condit fight was close. It was also nearly 5 years ago. I get that Diaz is an exciting fighter to watch, but his drawing power dwarfs his ability to actually be competitive with top fighters.
I'd take him to KO Lawler again.jujigatame wrote:I'd bet that he's very far from the top 5 and will likely never crack the top 10 again, but maybe he'll prove me wrong against Lawler.
I hear ya, but I think Nick deserves a bit more credit than that. I had him beating Condit, who was the #2 guy in the division at the time they fought.p4p1 wrote:I was never that high on either Diaz brother both have been and likely will always be gatekeepers.
