Hang in there mate, you are in my thoughts, and I am sure you are in many others thoughts too. My grandfather had tinnitus so I know what a horrible, shitty disease it is.

Roger . . . I agree with Randy. Every piece of art you provide us with is special. Like the De La O family, Monica and I are big fans of your work. Not just the boxing stuff, everything. And as for TJ? It was just an idea, but not something I need to do or Monica. We've both been there, I don't need any potential challenges at this time of my life. I don't look for trouble and I take it real personal when it finds me for no reason. I confront trouble, I don't run from it, which is not always good, especially in a place like TJ.

All kidding aside. Thousands of people commute back and forth every day. It's funny how the news can scare people if they haven't experienced it. TJ is safe if you're aware. If you're involved with drugs or other illegal activities then you're stacking the odds against you. People like me? Well I don't live down there. Walk around in broad daylight and with crowds when I go.It's OK. It's a contrast that always makes a profound impression in me.

If you and Monica ever get the urge, let me know. Something about Mexico, even Tijuana, that I think is in my pores. Rog

Thats a great list. It would be something to see Hype's name among them.
I will say Im surpised I have not peaked at the list before. It is full of some real hardcore boxing writers and not just the ones that may have done somthing outside boxing that made them famous.

I am working like a mad dog on the Bio as we speak. That list is making it all seem worth the effort. I did have to stop and sell a car. Got to pay the rent.

ki
Sell the car! Work always comes first. We are all focused on Hype Igoe, so I'll make sure it happens this year (on the ballot, at least). As soon as I have the date of the selection commitee meeting, I'll pass it on to you, and that's when I'll need the bio. Make it as long or short as you like.

The last time I submitted a bio supporting a potential inductee, he ended up in the Hall of Fame. It would make for an even better banquet for our "Classic American West Coast Boxing" regulars, if one of our own reps an inductee (As John Bardelli did last year, when his father "Young Firpo" was inducted.)

We'd love for you to join us at one of our Boxrec group tables. With a little luck we'll have Frank & Connie, Roger & Maria, Randy & Jeri plus our friend Ed Hernandez, Pug, Bruce, John Bardelli, Scartissue and his Pop, hopefully Tom Ray, with real luck Bennie, plus more.

THE COMPANY YOU KEEP

The little I saw of Denny Moyer at the end was food for thought. I wasn't that involved with boxing in San Diego. I hung around the various gyms on occasion and would go to the fights on a pretty much weekly basis. I knew some of the fighters. Not well, but enough where they recognized me and we could talk. I guess for whatever reason when Sid Flaherity came to San Diego he brought with him Denny Moyer. The big fight venues were gone. After losing to Monzon for the title,San Diego was as good a place as any to wind things up for the kid with the baby face. Besides, Flaherity had opened a camp in the foothills for what he had left in his stable of fighters. It was also the home for his kennel of Malmutes.

When I saw Denny Moyer up close for the first time,I could see the age on him. The saggy chest and shoulders. The softness in his body. Then when I'd see him drink,i knew it was more than fighting and age that made him look older. Older and slower. More prone to opening up his cuts. It was all he knew how to do to make a living I guess. He had enough in him to beat the bums. But when he found a character like Ronnie Wilson, abstinence was out of the question.

I was in my early twenties then. My direction wasn't well focused. When I was invited ,I liked getting drunk with those fellows.
"I got drunk with Denny Moyer. Used to be the Champ."
Big deal. Flaherity should have told Denny to stay away from guys like me. The thing is Sid probably was telling him that for years. Old habits are hard to break. Maybe Malmutes are more dependable. Sid probably never had to worry about his dogs going on a binge.

Watch some of this fight and all I can say is what a sorry state of affairs it is that a crap fight like is can be call a heavyweight title fight

WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (37-2, 36 KOs) scored an impressive ninth round TKO over mandatory challenger Juan Carlos Gomez (44-2, 35 KOs) on Saturday night at Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Halle in Stuttgart, Germany. Klitschko methodically broke down Gomez, an ex-cruiserweight world champion, cutting him above the right eye in round five. Klitschko was cut on the hairline in round six by a headbutt, but dropped Gomez in the seventh with a big right uppercut. After another dominant round eight, Klitschko dropped Gomez again in the ninth and the fight was soon waved off by referee Daniel van de Wiele. Time was 1:49.

Tomorrow my grandson Adam is in a karate tournament in Anaheim. I worry about him. I don't know. I never was that way with my son. Adam is not very aggressive. I know he wants to please his dad. His dad wants him to kick everyone's ass. I guess his dad is trying to live it through him. What the hell is there to prove? It's not knowing how to fight, but when.I remember when Amanda was born,my son in law wanted her to be a Marine so she could kick everyone's ass.

Gato told me an interesting story when he was over at my place to eat. He said that he lost his reading glasses down at the harbor in Oceanside one evening. He said he went back to look for them. It was pitch black by then. He was about to give up when someone from behind pushed him and knocked him down. Gato said that he wanted to get up and start throwing punches, but he felt his hand on something. It was his reading glasses. He got up,but no one was around.

There's a message there, but I can't put my finger on it right now. Peace my friend. Peace. :)
