Re: MMA thread?n

Post by thunderfromdownunder »

Been watching a ton of old pride and UFC fights on fightpass over the last few days.
Rewatched shogun/machida 1. Two of my favourite fighters. i gotta say I don't think the decision was as bad as it was made out to be. I had it 3-2 shogun. He clearly won the last two rounds but the first three were all swing rounds, if you gave them to machida, which is completely possible then you get the same decision that all three judges had. Rogan was swinging from rua's nuts the whole time too, there were multiple times that they would land at the same time, it was usually shogun throwing a leg kick and machida a straight left, and he would always mention shoguns strikes and not lyotos.
Fantastic fight anyway. Those two may as well have a rubber match now, both are old and not in contention but it would be a good foxcard headliner in Brazil.

Speaking of commentators, Goldberg is done after 207. I'll miss him I guess, but he's very stale and just repeats the same lines and catchphrases over and over. He also offers next to no analysts. Probably a good move in the long run.
Hopefully has rutten comes in

I get it, she's the best ever in a young sport, but she still deserves credit for that. Sadly her awful coach (and her refusal to seek out a new training environment) seems to be preventing her evolution.

Hendricks has struggled to win fights and make weight since USADA came along........

I used to always be against it but I think it's time for a few more weight classes in MMA,
meybe one every 10 pounds. all the way from 125 to 215. And everything above 215 is heavyweight

I was so bummed when I saw that. I was really hoping Bigg Rigg would get back on track. Borg was so off I was shocked.

Also, I knew Goldberg was on his way out, but this will be his last card. I keep reading that want professional douchebag Jim Rome to replace him. That is absolutely insane. Jim Rome sucks...badly.

Also, Cro Cop blasted King Mo out of there and will fight the fat Estonian Hoovelson next. Aliakbari beat Herring and will face Moldavsky. It was a fun card.

I disagree. The weight classes are appropriate enough to accommodate anyone. I'm sure Johnny would be cutting weight to make 185 as well. He may as well move there. His strength would be much better for sure. He's short for the class, but he''s got a big frame.

Ronda needs to stop mean mugging she looks like a spoilt brat who didn't get her way. It was more obvious than normal when she was facing off with Nunes who likes she wouldn't think twice about killing you.

I saw it posted somewhere and I thought it was a good point. Why is it that after Ronda lost a fair fight she's going around and acting like she is the victim of some King of terrorist attack?

Edit: I've also think the same thing about the Diaz brothers and Diego Sanchezs mean mugs.

Anyway let's go Nunes it's hard not to cheer for her. She's a humble, happy and is so likeable no matter who she's in against.

Cro Cop looked good for 42. He's definitely taking extra vitamins again since he's in Japan. In his prime he was such a monster, he's obviously much slower and not as peppy, but he should win out this Rizin tourney.

p4p1, Ronda is mad that her adulating press moved on from her after her loss and that her "haters" had a voice. She won't even speak to Joe Rogan and I think the worst thing he ever said was that before Holly her opponents were not great. On the other hand he called her a once in history ever level fighter. I don't like to kick at people when they're down, but Ronda has serious issues. I'm not a psych so I won't diagnose her via internet, but she has problems. For her own sake, she would probably be best to just fade away after this fight win lose or draw. She needs to be a regular person IMO. She'd be happier there.

I think a lot of people are blowing the media stuff out of proportion. Doesn't mean she's lost her edge. Might be the exact opposite. As long as she faces the media afterwards, win or lose, no harm no foul.

I agree. Ronda not speaking to media isn't a sign of weakness at all. I think it's her way of re-dedicating herself to give it all.

I'll make an easy prediction right now; if Ronda fights smart she will win. She has all the tools to win her fight against Nunes. She does not, however, have all the tools to beat Nunes in Nunes fight.

Ronda is going to want to prove a point; she has shown herself to be that kind of person her entire life. She wants to destroy Nunes. The ONLY question that remains is "Is she smart enough to do it?".

She has been more prone to run out and wing punches because her low IQ coach has her thinking she's a striker. She's not; in fact her hands are some of the worst among the top of the division. If she fights smart and to her strengths Nunes will have a short night. If Ronda tries to knock her out to prove a point (exactly what she did against Bethe), she's going to sleep.

I can't wait for this fight!! :box:

I don't know if anyone saw it but Tate interviewed Nunes with the fox team. One thing I didn't realise that she spoke about was Nunes length. She said that she got to a distance where she felt should couldn't be hit and was out of range and then she would feel a right hand hit her out of nowhere. I didn't realise that Nunes had that kind of length, Tate obviously mentioned her power and said that she hit harder than anyone she had fought. Nunes from the interview sounds extremely confident if it hits the mat as well. Should be a good fight.

Can't wait for Cruz vs Gambrandt, Cruz's trash talk IMO is a level above anyone else in fighting right now.

Her arms are very long for her height. I think 4 or 5 inches longer than she stands.

Nice start to the card but nothing unexpected. I'm hoping TJ takes cares of business, and I still hope Johnny gets the win despite missing weight.

Wow, not a good decision there. Boring fight and Hendricks didn't do much, but Magny had literally less than a minute of success in that entire fight; two failed submission attempts that allowed him to throw some elbows.
