Hold on just a second, now while the whole contract saga was ridiculous, David Haye was in no position whatsoever to be making demands, he hadn't beaten a single live heavyweight threat and jumped the queue straight into a title fight, he got the break of his life when they agreed to fight him and unfortunately for Haye he's had to pull out.

that is true. haye should just have bloody well earned his way into proper contendership and he would have been readier for the job, and he would have been more marketable.

however, these klitschkos are dreadful for boxing. vitali, a potentially great heavyweight, takes about 4 years off and has only just stopped calling lennox out. what a complete tosser. wlad - the talented giant who hyperventilates under pressure - has to have home ref, so he can hold up close, hold some more, and then turn away from the opponent when he breaks out of vice like grip...the ref to let him get away with this time & again, when the opponent should effing twat him with his back turned...and i've never heard anything like the terms that haye had to agree to, to get this fight

it makes the klits look like absolute arsholes...all that red tape over a vulnerbale cruiserweight...someone send german boxing to the moon, with no TV coverage

But the point is clear - Haye hasn't beaten a top 10 guy to get this shot. He may be a good at promoting the bout and he's a live contender but we mustn't forget that.

However, I think the money has to be a contributory factor. Whether it helped Haye and Booth conclude that the minor hindrance an injury was now more significant for example.

Haye wants this fight and it does take some balls to pull out. Fighters too often fight on regardless then moan after.

Amazing how Haye pulls out with a bank/back injury and Vlad is getting critcised by some on here

I guess we will have to find a new personlilty for Haye- at least for a while - because nobody is going to be trying to hear his brash talk after this episode

Haye was neither a rival beltholder nor a mandatory. What exactly was in it for Vlad? Those terms were oppressive but if he were to fight a few contenders and become mandatory he could have had a normal champion/challenger split.

Lets face it apart from a big mouth he didnt really bring much to the table

well it looked like a good, marketable fight for wlad, and a very winnable one also - given the ticket sales and a probably massive TV audience also.

risk and reward looked good for wlad, yet if haye won he'd have to have rematch and fight vitali? crackers.

FYI - i was one of the ppl who wanted to see haye beat some contenders, get busy - as holyfield did in the late '80s v pinklo thomas, james tillis, adilson rodriqguez and michael dokes. rather than sign your life away in kamikaze title shot

Thursday, 4 June 2009: David Haye and Adam Booth have released their first response to the unfortunate announcement that David has had to pull out of the world heavyweight title clash against Wladimir Klitschko on June 20th.

Adam Booth described the news as “the most disappointing and devastating that David has ever had to deliver”.

He went on: “Unfortunately David has sustained a back injury which means he is unable to continue training for a short period. We’re heading back to the UK for some aggressive physiotherapy.

"It looks like there will be only a three week delay from the original fight date, which hopefully means that Wladimir will only postpone the fight, rather than cancel it.”

David Haye said: “I’m sorry to disappoint all my fans across the world and I hope that once I have had the sufficient treatment, I will be able to start training again and we can get the fight on as soon as possible. I know this is the fight the fans want and I will do everything to make sure it happens.

Further announcements will be made in due course.

Whilst the contract terms sound unfair when you first read them, look at it carefully, is Haye the ticket seller/known name in Germany/Worldwide? No.
Is he a mandatory/beaten anyone of note? No.
The Klit, is the champ, not Haye...
Haye is popular in the UK, so he gets the UK money. It sounds to me like Hayemaker tried to get Stamford Bridge, which would generate good money, but didn't.

Thanks for the update Ron. It would be fantastic news if they could reschedule for a month later but I imagine that is not very likley.

Why would Wlad reschedule they sold the venue out. Also in August the German football season will start as it world cup year.

I am also very suspicious of this. Setanta in a dire financial state and if I was Haye I would be greatly concerned about whether I'd be getting paid or not, considering Setanta defaulted this week on a payment to the Scotish Premier League. Biggest fight of his life - he is an underdog - it's his biggest payday - is he really going to risk it all when he may not even receive any money for it? It's speculation but I smell a rat.

There's a whole working day in between that, when Haye was probably training.

No balls required if you are not getting paid.

And what can appear a disaster one moment can change very quickly in that industry.

I just hope that HBO and Setanta pull out of the television deals if Haye does not fight. This might make give the K2 camp more inclination to postpone the fight rather than have Wlad Jab someones head off for x amount of rounds.

Get real. Klitschko is the one who stands to lose here. If punters demand refunds and HBO pull out, he loses cash.
And don't blame Haye for wanting guarantees about his money from TV BEFORE he steps in the ring against they guy who is probably the best in the world and who was a big odds on favourite to win anyway.

Will look into fighting Haye on July 11th. Stadium will be fine for then. Television issues will come into play though.

There is a list of about 10 who want the fight. All the ones that have been mentioned here.

Still, Chagaev is first priority, if RTL accept this fight then it'll probably happen
