i said i wanted Hunter to win, I also have been a fan of Booth for a while. At various times this week I've said I don't know who will win, and I leaned towards Hunter.
Even the boxing News today said thay don't know what to expect so we just have to assume that both are somewhere near their peaks.
I don't change my mind on anything I've said about Hunter's previous fights, but..
On tonight's evidence, Booth was clearly much closer to his peak than Hunter was to his. For 106 rounds sparred beforehand, as was claimed (and no reason to think that's not true) I was very surprised at how far Hunter had slipped. After the even steven first round, which probably had a few arses twitching on here, Booth essentially laid a beating on Hunter. Coming in bigger is no substitute for being in much worse general condition than the other fella.
There was a rumour circulating at the show that Booth hadn't turned up....so when Hunter started his ringwalk , he could have conceivably been getting followed into the ring by the best paid journeyman of all time. Thankfully though, as I thought, Booth did turn up.
I based my prediction on Hunter being in better shape than this, but pleased for Booth at the same time.
FAO Rhino......my view of the corner was obscured by a ringpost so I don't know if the decision not to continue was Hunter's or the corner's.......but frankly, had he continued , Hunter was on a total hiding followed by a stoppage to the fresher , fitter man......you say it was quitting, I say it was the only sensible decision to make. The match had ceased to be competetive.
I think if Hunter walks away, and I hope he does, he can still rightly hold his head high at what he achieved.
......if they knew their luck eh!
