Oh yeah,it was the first, and Groves was stopped on his feet after getting up from a heavy knockdown. That must have been some warm up he did to be exhausted by that stage...

Depends if/when the fight is made. If it was now I'd pick Smith, but in 2 years it's impossible to say. What my post was getting at is that their careers are at completely different points. Groves needs to leapfrog a couple of other people to get a shot and by that point Smith may have moved onto bigger/better things.

travis was huge back then in the ams, he did not spark groves, he stopped him on his feet, more exhaustion then anything, so your trying to say dickinson is better then groves? nowhere near pal

Not trying to say that at all, just trying to say Groves isnt superman. And what round did the "exhaustion" get to George, pal?
apparently he had mumps..dont knw if it's true but apparently he was ill, it was a war and dickinson stopped him in the 1st. groves said on a livefight interview that he beat dickinson in there 3rd fight. i didn't knw they fought 3 times. im pretty sure groves was 17 at the time of getting stopped by dickinson, then again so was travis

Id pick Groves now against smigga...would be tough fight(fight will never happen) i dont mean that to disrespect smith in the slightest....jesus any fighter that wins brittish title obvisly aint no mug...but if it did happen now id lump on groves in big way..prob get odd of evens or 6/5 5/6...

Against domestic level opposition where prior to the fight Smith went into both as the overwhelming favourite - so you could turn that into "Smith maybe not as good as people think".

You'd get about 8/11 on Groves. He'd definitely be the favourite and rightly so.

For feck sake, lads. Smith struggled against Quigley and Dodson, and I had him losing the first one, by a round or two. But God almighty; how can anyone put Groves as favourite over Smith? You're living in a bubble if you think that. Perhaps in a few years it'll be a great fight, but not now.

It is all bollocks to be honest. He has shown he could be a very good, maybe great boxer, but it is all potential right now. He does however need to beat people like Dilks to retain his credability. Dilks did of course lose in his fight for the commonwealth, but many people had him winning the fight, so If Groves is serious about being the best Supermiddle in the country, maybe he should fight Dilks first.
I heard somewhere that Dilks was looking for an opponent.

Dilks would be ideal. I haven't seen too much of Dilks, but I think he would test Groves, if only a little.

How could i have read your post when i posted first!Everyones got a story to tell, mate.Dale youth wouldnt have put him in if he had mumps. As for him deserving the verdict in the other bout, most people thought Degale deserved it over Groves in their bout.Thats boxing for you.By the way,i think Degale would beat him as well.Adam Booth is a very shrewd man and will match George well. Its all fine and well calling out Smith and Degale knowing there is virtually no chance of them happening.Even if Fwank negotiated with him,Booth would walk away claiming something or the other, just as he is doing now....

Please show me where I've ever called Darren Barker or Quigley or Dodson out....
I was asked if I would like the Barker fight. My response was I'd love it as he was commonwealth champion and I didn't have a title. I did the "double barrel insult" you mention, after hearing them both having a go on the radio. The radio asked me if I had a response and I said that I'd beat them both - Didn't ask or demand a fight with either.
I don't tell lies.... They catch up with you in the end

bit touchy :!: we all know boxing is personal, but i aint stated groves is better have i.
you wanted barker to defend against you after coming of a loss to bendall, controversially.even though you never insulted or bad mouthed him it was desperate.
you said or reportedly said you'd knock tq & td out on the same night you bad mofo
& you never reply or reespond to the simple question "do you think you'd beat groves"

I've never been asked 'do I think I would beat Groves' - if I did the answer is a 1 million percent definite YES.
Secondly, being touchy is my nature, boxing is my livelihood and boxers are constantly being told by people to try and have good PR. Good PR is our personality and reputations - what is thought and said about us.
So if people are calling me and I can reply, I will reply. I'm not going to sit there and have people I don't know defend me when I can do it myself.
Once again you're wrong. But what's new.... I was asked about the Barker fight before I had lost a fight.
I never said I'd knock TD & TQ out I said I'd beat them both. But I've already corrected you on that twice now - Which proves my point that you're a wind up.
To answer JDC's post. I don't call fighters out!

So the answer is no. I talk about possible fights because they interest me, not slag the higher ranked fighter and demand a fight with him undeservedly.
This thread is getting on my tits now, I've made my points and expressed my opinion. Others have their opinions and they're not going to change.
So I will leave it there. All the best lads

Am not a fan of watching paul smith's fights, but i hope he shuts that george groves up he is a david haye wanna be! also i think smith can beat groves, smith has the more proven chin and i think groves chin is still a question mark, plus groves is no were near as good as he think he is! and when he fights some one like smith or brian magee he will be found out

This thread has been ruined now, No fighters are cowards!! Listen Paul ain't ducking Groves, I mean let's put it like this, He went into the Contender with the likes of Sam Soliman, Jaidon Codrington and Sakio Bika all of who are far ahead of Groves and some who are far more dangerous right now.. He entered the tournament knowing exactly who was in it!! Groves may well turn out to be a world champion one day but right now he ain't better than 2 out of 3 of them names!! Paul was willing to fight them so on that alone proves the guy ain't scared to fight anyone, I'll bet everything on it that he'll face his next mandatory challenger no matter who it is, He will not give that belt up unless he's fighting for one bigger!! He cherises that belt and let me tell ya he ain't giving it up without a fight..
I've said this before, Groves knows what he's doing by calling out Paul, He knows the fight is near impossible to make, He's calling him out for press and to hopefully jump the que!! My bet is he'll make a few commenwealth defences and then Hayemaker or Maloney will make Magee a silly offer as long as he's still EBU champion. While it's good to see someone like Groves so young and ambitious it's also dangerous!! Adam Booth is a good judge but treating Groves like Haye will be the kids undoing, He's a lot younger than David and also needs more time than Haye did too!! I do believe Groves can be something but give the kid time!!

Carl a good fight for you and one you can win,PAUL DAVID English Champion. He beat Drake in 3 and you did it in 6 but I think you are stronger and better schooled than David.Patrick Mendy also, but its a high risk fight for little reward. At least when you beat David you have a title which should in theory put you in line for the British and also have some bargining power.
1.In the event of a final eliminator not happening (Kenny Anderson v ?) you could be given a voluntary if you talk to smigga properly.Good fight IMO.
2.If you fight Degale in a non title fight you run the risk of being done over by the referee ( Tyson Fury v John McDermott 1st fight) then you are going to be out of the picture for a long time.
3.If the board put you as challenger for the English Title,Paul David has a promoter Mick Hennessy who has no TV so more than likely Maloney could promote it and give you home advantage.
DeGale is being groomed for Paul Smith,Paul Smith is fighting McDermott who is managed by Dean Powell matchmaker for allegedly.Hard fight for Paul Smith but one he should win.
Smigga in the next 12 months I think you are going to be fighting the Golden Boy of British Boxing,Olympic Gold medalist and the Savior of Boxing in Britain. He is being hyped up in the same way Khan was (personally I dont rate Degale or Khan). So far he has all the credentials, unbeaten, flash style and all the talk, everything you dont have.I would love to see you win so whatever you do in the next 12 months be prepared.Live eat and sleep boxing.Degale has had it the easy way unlike you.
Politics are a big part of boxing, promoters control who their fighters box to maximise TV deals and purses. You have to give credit to FW,After Khan got sparked he turned him into a world champion,Smigga got beat by Steven Bendall (who earlier in his career lost to Scott Dan for the British) and Smigga still ended up with the British.Michael Jennings lost his British Title but still boxed Cotto for the WBO Title I could go on.If fighters tried to dictate to promoters who they should and shouldnt fight there would be no fights, you sign a promotional deal and agree to fight who ever is put in front of you,end of.

i doubt he will skip the british title, i can imagine he will make a commonwealth defence probs against dilks, then fight for the vacant british title as smith will more then likely have vacated after winning it outright, it will more then likely be degale and groves put forward to fight for the british title but i dont think warren will risk it
