It wasn't. Degale was teeing off on Smith and his head was getting knocked about. It reminded me a little of when Corrales stopped Castillo in their first fight. Castillo wasn't going to go down, but his head was snapped back by punches. I was pulling for Smith but this was no stitch up stoppage.

I thought it was a little to early but the outcome wouldn't have been much different. Smith never looked like winning. Degale outclassed him.

For me it was slightly premature but nothing to really shout from the rooftops about. In a way it does Smith some favours as if he had continued to take heavy fire he might have ended up properly KO'd and hurt. The sheer dominance of DeGale throughout the fight meant there was no point in Smith taking a beating.

DeGale is basically a class above domestic level, time to get him onto the euro scene and then the fringe world level. No point overly hanging around, he is a gold medallist after all.

How do you know? He took the shot and the ref jumped straight in and Smith was fine!!!
true but the way refs have to react nowadays it will look like a good shout. i think it was an early stoppage for a british title tho.

im not suggesting it was a stitch up myself but still feel it was too early , yes de gale was a deserving winner but smith should have still had the benefit of doubt at that point , he will feel utterly dissapointed with that stoppage imo

Foster could have stopped it during the previous flurry, but he gave Smith a chance to show his head was clear. DeGale then started pummelling Smith.
He stopped him after one big shot that smith took. Yes he was hurt earlier in the round, but he wasn't anywhere near as hurt then.
Were you watching a different fight? Smith had lost pretty much every second of every round --an Smith is a good fighter-- he was totally dominated. Why risk him getting hurt, there was no coming back.

100k on this.
lol reading this youd think you was making another of yr outlandish claims.to say something then state 100k on THIS does make it sound like youd bet on the stoppage but luckily youd bet on the points win well done :TU:

Nice backpedal tho :D

I bet that 100k was on a ninth round stoppag wasnt it :TU:
I guess you missed the irony of the post, just before the fight they stated on sky a big hitter had put 100k on De Gale to win! If you'd followed my outlandish claims over recent weeks you'd have a pocket full of cash but I guess ripping into people who you think have lost a lump to the bookies tickles your cock.

FANTASTIC display. I know they don't give such an award, but surely that is the best performance by a British fighter in a "british" level fight.

I was quite shocked that Moore still thought Smith was going to get to Degale at the half way point. I saw him completely dominate Smith and outstrength him.

I was rooting for Smith, and hoping he'd ease his way into the fight as the rounds went on, but it looked extremely unlikely that he would by the time of the stoppage. Shipping a lot of punishment and not landing much of note of his own, so I don't think the referee was massively wrong to step in.

Credit to DeGale though. He showed a lot of class tonight. Wasn't too keen on his taunting of Smith in the earlier rounds, but otherwise his performance was very impressive. And on that form, i'd tip him to beat Groves handily.

Degale is a different class to Groves I think.

Degale vs Magee appeals to me, and I think Degale wins.

I don't know what was more impressive, Degales win or some poster claiming to have put a 100k bet on.

James was just too slick and quick for Paul. James fought well, slapped a bit with his punches, occasionally but punched fast and in combinations. Power was ok but its the speed and combinations that won this fight.

Paul had the heart and will but just lacked that little bit of skill. He can come again.

Degale was very impressive, Smith was brave, took his lumps and kept on trying but Degale must be a lot stronger than he looks; if he beat Smith like that then he will get to the very top.

I staked ZERO pounds on this fight...........I tipped Smith for about a week or 2 then after that it was all Degale. I wouldn't have won tho cos I didn't have enough confidence in Degale to pull off the stoppage. I predicted Degale on points all week by 6 rounds or so.

Good on Jimbo, really good stuff. Sign of a top class fighter that to be on top and yet still be able to push the stoppage on a decent hitter like Smith.

Please Jimbo drop that fcking stupid celebration at the end and do something that isn't so gay.

Degale is a good prospect, one of our best. I just wonder where he will go from here.

Smith never troubled Degale and although he looked good to carry on from my seat, I think Smith was already past the stage of needing a stoppage to win.

Feel bad for Smith, it is good for us fans that he comes on here and gets involved, but tonight wasn't his night. I guess this will take him a while to get over, he should have been seasoned enough to see a 10 fight pro fighter off, but as I said, I think we have someone with genuine proper world class potential in Degale.

degale loooked very relaxed, even during the boos etc as he entered and waited in the ring. impressive poise. crowd rowdyish but not all as blatantly coked up as original mag 7. decent, partisan but not stupid atmosphere. smith winning would have lifte the roof. degale looked seldom troubled by smigga, slightly sadly. i mean either guy winning was fine by me but if i had a preefernce...

crap card overall. underwhelming. macklin's looking more and more limited with each euro-journeyman he fights. weird. gavin didn't look like he was flued up, the way he was carrying on ringside in support of bomber. separate thread to come on bomber. clev was restricted by an awkward bugger. clev cannot fight on the inside for shit. clev has no seeming interest in throwing jabs. a double jab would be a miracle. looked longarmed and a bit awkward at times.

I was hoping for a smith victory to be honest and now have to give full credit to degale who performed brilliantly on the night.
I've always favoured Groves doing a number on degale if they finally fight but now after watching both of them in action degale is definitely looking like the better fighter with more potential.
Sadly now my mony would be on degale stopping groves reasonably early on. 4 maybe 5 rounds.
