Yep. There's an element of "never mind the quality, feel the width" to this sort of thing but I'd prefer two separate shows. Exposure for more undercard fighters, and more fights for viewers.... they are going to need the revenue from live gates so hopefully they won't be too tempted to take a bout of chief support quality off one bill and stick it up as the main event on another, in order to create more shows. Can't see that working in the long run, there are added costs in hiring the second venue, added costs in televising it, and if you're diluting the gates, its financial suicide...

Unfortunately thats how Allegedly does his business. $$$'s first and foremost, not the sports long term future.

He did it when he took his stable off Terrestial TV (away from the masses), to SKY and now he has done the same, this time to SKY (further reducing the coverage).

It's never been about the masses or making the sport popular, its always been about making $$$. Which is what a good business man does.

That is what Boxing is to him, a business.

Amazingly I think some of these have come from Steve Lillis (who should know better!):
Prior to Donaire v Narvaez:
"Narvaez has never fought outside of Argentina" (He'd fought in France and Italy)
"Should they have let Narvaez out of Argentina earlier?" (They let him out of Argentina as early as 2002)
"Can Narvaez carry his power up, he has stopped 19 guys before" (Narvaez wasn't a power puncher at 115 so what power did they expect him to carry up to 118? He'd stopped 1 of his previous 6 opponents)

Talking about Chavez Jr:
"Chavez has defended his title once against Ryan Rhodes" (He'd also defended against Gomez)

During highlights of Glazkov v Peret:
"Peret fought Tyson Fury in a kilt" (It was Marcel Zeller who fought in a kilt)

During Melendez v Bahktin:
"I'd award Bahktin 120 points" (It was a 10 round fight)

Talking about Katsidis:
"Katsidis lost on points to Marquez" (Nope Marquez stopped him in the 9th round)

Talking after the Molitor fight:
"Get Quigg in with Molitor it'll get him a world ranking" (Quigg is ranked by 3 of the world bodies already)

Talking about Bute:
"The Super 6, these were all well known names, Bute weren't" (Bute was a hell of a lot more well known than Ward or Dirrell and was on par with Froch)

Whilst these are only little things they add up and you sort of wonder if they just say any old crap thinking everyone ill go "they know what they are talking about"
Christ, you've been busy.

I don't mean offence... well only offence if you're too sensitive for this to bother you. Frank is a twat (further text removed by Mod). It will end badly for allegedly (further text removed by Mod).

McKenzie/guy who's name I can't recall will soon be the norm at least once a week, with fighters like DeGale/Clev fighting lowly ranked contenders who the bookies won't favour - I'd guess the majority of odds will around 20/1-on for the away fighter. Do you think knobhead will continue to put folk like Burns and Clev in dangerous 50/50 fights when he can easily bring over an African from Accra - I reckon Clev will soon have a Joe Calzaghe-type record in a few years; 20 defences against primarily no one? Think about it. In 6 months, this place will be in uproar.

And Macho's story is the perfect metaphor for dealing with Frank, only that Frank would (further text removed by Mod) given half the chance.

Beware.

Steve it's great to have you posting on boxrec again or at least a more regular basis, i joined in May 2003 and i always found your posts back then amongst the best and most spot on.

Back on topic, i think what Box notion really have to do to make this channel a success is to get it in as many pubs, nightclubs and casinos as possible. Obviously their subscription fee's will be alot more then £10 a month but a hell of a lot less then paying for premiership football which most places just can't afford nowadays.

I'd say to break even they'd probably need around 25,000 home subscribers plus around 5,000 bar/pub/casinos subscribers which they'd probably want by the end of june 2012, added to that is their income from advertising which must be pretty low at the moment.

That's around £1,000,000 revenue a month to run a tv channel which includes putting on 7 domestic small shows and 1 big one, added to that about 4 international boxing shows.

I guess people had the same fears about premiership football dying when it went exclusively to SKY Sports, although boxing won't be as big it could grow over the years and revive the sport again.

Would the pay off of keeping it free long term and getting a higher viewership (and as a result better advertising payments) out weigh going subscription?...

You have to give it to Warren, he making it very easy to subscribe to Allegedly channel at end of month. Good domestic and world boxing for a few pints, can't say NO to that.
I did not either until I saw that the whole programme was 273minutes long and took up about 5% of the memory of my SkyPLus HD Box Box, which is not good when you consider that the Sky Box here at Langmaid Towers is usually hovering in the mid 30% of space left due to the we record alot of stuff in HD, especially with crap that my mum likes to watch such as Downton Abbey and I have got about two episodes of Boardwalk Empire to get rid off.

Advertising is dead on the ground for alot of channels nowadays and for a new channel it's going to be much harder to generate all their income from just that source of revenue. Notice the advertising they have at the moment is almost infomercial level which would pay peanuts.

I mean when you factor the purses alone for the Cleverley vs Bellew and Degale on same bill plus all the other boxers you'd be looking at close to 250k alone and thats before paying all the production crew and presenters. Costs for these can be offset from live gate but once you do the maths there's not much money left over, infact they're probably losing quite a bit for each show.

I have always had the feeling that Sky are somehow involved with Allegedly channel. I know Bunce said they wouldn't let Sky fighters on his show but there seems a lot stuff going both ways. The Cleverley- Bellew fight was given coverage on Ringside and Tony was even a guest on Saturday fight night before the fight. Add this to the way that some boxing media / ex fighters are working on both channels something seems strange especially when Sky have never been so accommodating in the past.
Yeah i think Sky must have their interests, people forget that BSKYB made their name in the UK from the Tyson/Bruno first fight and then the Tyson fights plus Eubanks too so they'll never sever links with it in the same way HBO would never either as they know boxing fans are amongst the most loyal sports fans there are.

Agreed, boxing has always packed them in for the big fights and you'd be surprised how many people across the UK watch Manny Pacquaio and Mayweather live at 4am in casinos and clubs.

If Pac vs Mayweather does get made for next year then Box notion have to break the bank to get that fight as that would be the one to make the channel mainstream.

Also remember Box notion will aslo be showing the best international cards from Goldenboy, Toprank, Dibella entertainment, Main Events, Gary shaw promotions and other promoters plus action from European, Japanese, Mexican and all around the world.
Guaranteed? Hardly. Maybe reword to say...

Box notion will aslo be bidding to show the best international cards from Goldenboy, Toprank, Dibella entertainment, Main Events, Gary shaw promotions.....but in a competitive market place they will need to ensure that they outbid broadcasting rivals including Sky, Prime Time, Premier Sports, ESPN and Channel 5 as most international promoters will go with who pays the most
