Crawford aside he has hardly been in with a murderers row.ThereByTheGrace wrote:Expe mate I think he has just been badly advised.expe wrote:Time to retire now for Ricky, don't think there should have been a Montenegran judge, but I can't argue with the decision, it's just not quite there for him anymore. Eddie Hearn is not a matchmaker and never will be, he just cares about the here and now.
Didn't get to see the fight as we had a power outage here due to a storm but losing a narrow decision to an undefeated fighter shouldn't necessarily mean the end. It was his first bout with a new camp as well as first fight back after a loss.expe wrote:Time to retire now for Ricky, don't think there should have been a Montenegran judge, but I can't argue with the decision, it's just not quite there for him anymore. I know this. I cannot believe how many times he said domestically.Horse wrote:Eddie's right, that is the level he should be fighting at now.ShadrachSimmo wrote:Eddie talking about domestic fights haha. Fcuk off!
Matchmaking shouldn't be the issue here, any fighter who struggles so badly with Beltran doesn't deserve to be called a world champion. Burns has massively over-achieved with his abilities, but looking back at his career Martinez is his only victory against a top level fighter. Crolla would be a good fight for Burns if he decides to carry on.ThereByTheGrace wrote:Expe mate I think he has just been badly advised.expe wrote:Time to retire now for Ricky, don't think there should have been a Montenegran judge, but I can't argue with the decision, it's just not quite there for him anymore. That's my sort of feeling as well, the Gonzalez fight was sprung on him, there was no mention of a mandatory before he left Fwank, Beltran looked a decent match and Hearn can't be blamed for his jaw going, but tonight was dreadful matchmaking, Zlaticanin was a nightmare opponent for him, he really shouldn't have been in with a southpaw. He was badly advised about his training situation as well, if he felt he needed to leave Billy Nelson that's fine, but I don't see what moving down to train with Tony Sims was going to achieve, he's always seemed like he enjoys being at home while he trains and definitely would have been out of place in Essex, if he had to change trainers Peter Harrison would have been a better choice, good trainer, without the need to move away from home.ThereByTheGrace wrote:Expe mate I think he has just been badly advised.expe wrote:Time to retire now for Ricky, don't think there should have been a Montenegran judge, but I can't argue with the decision, it's just not quite there for him anymore. I know, but what I'm saying is he is limited and the change was the worst thing, he has had 4 totally different styles in his last 4 fights. He has been exposed and he should've stayed with allegedly!DMA1987 wrote:Crawford aside he has hardly been in with a murderers row.ThereByTheGrace wrote:Expe mate I think he has just been badly advised.expe wrote:Time to retire now for Ricky, don't think there should have been a Montenegran judge, but I can't argue with the decision, it's just not quite there for him anymore. He fought Beltran for 10 rounds with a broken jaw, to go 12 rounds took incredible heart and bravery, but it seems like that has taken a lot out of him, who knows how that fight would have gone if his jaw hadn't broken, it's all ifs and buts at this stage.Boxerbeetle123 wrote:Matchmaking shouldn't be the issue here, any fighter who struggles so badly with Beltran doesn't deserve to be called a world champion. I'm not really convinced Burn's jaw was really broken in the 2nd against Beltran, had the impression on fight night that it happened much later on. Even so, when also taking into account the Gonzales & Crawford fights, Burns could quite easily have 4 consecutive losses on his record. Don't get me wrong, I've been a big fan of Burns over the years but looking back on his career the Martinez performance now sticks out as the anomaly, since then it's either been title defences against relatively poor opposition or struggling against fringe world level fighters (Crawford aside as he looks to be genuine world class). A Crolla fight is probably the best Burns could hope for next, although at this stage I'd favour Crolla clearly.expe wrote: He fought Beltran for 10 rounds with a broken jaw, to go 12 rounds took incredible heart and bravery, but it seems like that has taken a lot out of him, who knows how that fight would have gone if his jaw hadn't broken, it's all ifs and buts at this stage.
There it is there hit the nail on the head. Everyone can see that after the change from Warren to Hearn Ricky bought into the superstar image. Wanted to build his profile rather than be a good honest hard working pro which suited his style. I seen first hand a couple if years ago that Ricky had stopped listening to Billy and was answering him back a lot in training. Billy brought out the best in Ricky he learned from the best in Peter Harrison and is a very very good trainer. For sparring for this fight it's horrendous none of the guys were anything like Zlaticann. There was no movement. All he had to do was what he done in the 12th command with his jab move to his left when Zlaticann was swinging and hitting with short right uppercuts and hooks.. Was a pretty simple game plan to beat a pretty average fighter. Ricky done the opposite held his feet and let his right hand go so wide open for the big left..handsofstone wrote:Looking at Ricky in his last 4 fights, honestly i cant believe he's a 2 weight champ,he looks so flat and crude, jab isnt nearly is used or affective, leaves himself wide open all the time, holds far too much, doesnt throw punches correctly so no pop in them,he looks like he's gonna break his wrists with slapping punches,no plan B,and very one paced
I love Ricky and he's been a great champ and a credit to boxing but i genuinly believe he'd struggle to win a British title at this rate,Terry Flanagan would beat Zlaticanin
End of the road mate

Burns was a world champ until a fight ago,match-making shouldn't come into it,if every decent contender was avoided and every champ manouvered away from them, then we'd have no great champs,a load of mediocre champs and no great match ups,I wouldn't blame Eddie,Burns has fought a few mandatories and struggled then put in with a one dimensnial albeit tough, unbeaten fighter last night and was crap I'm afraidManchester Hitman wrote:let Burns be a lesson to any kid thinking of leaving FW to run to Eddie/Sky...the grass is not always greener.
Eddie is a great promoter interns of events management but his matchmaking skills are non existent

he needs a Dean Powell type figure, it would seem
